Fun, quirky course
The actual course is in great condition; fairways and rough were in excellent condition, greens were a little too soft but rolled just fine. The pro and staff in the clubhouse could not have been nicer or more helpful, though we could have used a marshal to speed a couple groups in front of us along. There are definitely some quirky holes in the layout, but for the money, it's a great tract. The BIG negative is that it appears the cart paths have not been maintained in at least three or four years and are in terrible shape. Overall, a nice experience.
Challenging and scenic
This is the most scenic track in central Kentucky with moderate elevation changes and sloping fairways. Multile tee boxes provide ample choices for different skill levels. The course is well maintained with friendly staff.
Great challenging course
Course is in good shape with challenging layout. Really liked the staff's attention and helpfulness during the round. Great value and fun.
Great fall golf with my son.
This was our first trip to the Bull but certainly not our last.
Besides it being a beautiful fall day, it was very pleasurable course to play. Fairways in good plus condition and the greens still looked good and rolled out well. This course is mostly open on the front 9 with rolling fairways and a couple of challenging dogleg holes. The back 9 gets more challenging as the fairways tighten up some and trees become more in play. There are some very picturesque par 3's on the back.
I would definitely play this course again and could easily become a favorite for the area.
Nice Course! Recommend to any skill level!
The Bull at Boone's Trace can be a test of one's golf skills to hit the golf ball straight. Several sets of tee boxes add to the intricacies of the course. Fairway shots will be rewarded with a nice second shot into the greens but hook or slice a drive can be a test of long irons or will cost you a stroke by OB or hazard. The greens are usually fairly fast but can be a mine field when players ahead don't fix ball marks. The course is not the only one where this happens since it is a universal problem. Overall, the greens will hold and will reward you on a good shot to the green. The front nine is an honest straight forward set of holes! Play well and make up strokes on the front since the back starts some of the hardest holes on the course. The 10th, 13th, 14th and 16th holes can definitely test and could add extra strokes to your score! Overall, The course is one of my favorites! The facility includes driving range, full pro shop, and snack bar. Always have had a very nice experience at this course! I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to put their skills to the test.
Great course. Excellent greens.
Course was in great condition. I highly recommend this course. Fun and challenging.
great course
we got good rate through your good site. I want to find next tee time from those hot deal.
Nice course, awful management!
Played on Sunday afternoon, had my best round in 5 years unfortunately had to quit on hole 15 because of slow play (no ranger) and the fact that we had two...yes two...carts run out of power on us. Complained after round to pro shop, staff had no answers and was not very receptive. Its unfortunate that this nice course is run by such lazy folks!
Up for a challenge? (really, No Bull!)
Looking for a scenic, challenging course between Lexington and Richmond? The Bull at Boone's Trace is a keeper!
Both opening holes on each 9 are Par 5s, with #10 being very sporty with water left and a green tucked behind a clever dogleg. #1 is a pretty basic, cushy hole with the exception of the wedge approach to an unseen shallow green.
My wife and I loved the par 4 doglegs. Holes 3,5, and 7 on the front are great shot-making holes, as are 12 and 16 on the back. #18 is a wonderful reverse dogleg finishing hole, while #9 provided me with a stiff uphill challenge to wrap up the front.
Each of the Par 3s are stout enough to keep pressure on crisp iron shots, with stray shots making bogey difficult and precise shots leading to par or better.
The only hole my wife and I found a little "gimmicky" was #11--even good tee shots rolled down into the rough, blocking a clear 2nd shot up to the green.
However, now that we are familiar with the course, it's easier to play better angles.
We really enjoyed the flow of the holes and lay-out of the course. The interior par 5s (#6 and #13) were both unique--the waste area to the right of the tree on 6 and the narrowness of the approaches on 13 created some good challenges.
My wife loved the signature par 3 on #17--very good visual appeal.
Greens in excellent shape, as were fairways and sand traps. Only minor flaw were a few chewed-up tee boxes and some inconsistency with yardages between tee box and yardage book, but over-all, a great track....really helped kick off a fun visit with our twins in Berea to relax on a Friday afternoon.
We were able to tee off before three foursomes, and once we got rolling, we made good time and finished in less than 4 hours.
Fun course to play.
Nice course kept in great shape. Some challenging holes that require careful placement of shots. Friendly staff and excellent facility.
This is a very nice course!!!
Course was in great shape from tee to green!! Also has several challenging holes. Beautiful homes surround the course!
Better than your average city course
Not a difficult course but challenging in places. Fairways and greens well maintained. Greens are good-sized and moderately fast. The sand traps need a lot of work...little sand and very compacted... However, at a discounted price, this is a good deal!
Great Course in Pristine Shape
I had forgotten how much I like this course being that it's been about three years since I last played it. It is an absolutely awesome course. Very well maintained and also challenging. Most holes require you to aim at a specific area of the fairway in order to have a decent successive shot. But stay where you need to be and it will reward you since the fairways are in such great shape.
I highly recommend this course. If you live in central Kentucky or are visiting it's a must play.
Great Layout
Other than the extremely slow play...the course plays well and is very enjoyable.
great layout with a lot of great holes,Love to play this course
My overall review for this course is very good the staff are nice and the course is well taken care of..
For Central KY Not Bad
For a course in KY it's great to play. The front 9 is wide open easy to hit some good drives. The back 9 is a little more narrow but hole 17 is so much fun it makes you forget about the misery of the last couple holes.
On to the negatives. Cart path is really rough for the most part it's gravel. Also, watch out for people playing directly on top of you I have had at least one ball a round almost hit me because of poor manners from members of the club.
Course is very open, no mass amount of trees.
The Bull is a wonderful course, but has some flaws, so I'll do a little roses (Pros) and thorns (Cons) action:
Rose: Very open and easy to play
Thorn: Cart path could use a considerable amount of attention
Rose: The course guide is AMAZING, on a professional level
Thorn Tee boxes were very firm and lots of divots, for being in the middle of the week.
Rose: Secluded away from any main roads
Not THE favorite, but a favorite
I have always enjoyed The Bull, and this year was no exception. The pace was the slowest I have ever played there, but the course is fun and well tended. Though I was playing poorly on the front nine, I look forward to the next time here.
A word of caution - I could not get served at the snack bar after the round.
Very good course
This is one of the best courses you will find in central kentucky
