Old Corkscrew Golf Club

About
Carved from forests of towering oaks and pines, Old Corkscrew Golf Club exhibits all of the superior characteristics that define Nicklaus Signature courses. The absence of houses around the golf course adds to the secluded and peaceful feel that is provided by the dense thickets of trees that surround it. Jack Nicklaus himself was a prominent presence throughout every phase of the course's construction, incorporating well balanced holes that vary in direction, look, and feel. Proper club selection will be greatly rewarded on this golf course. The fast-paced, undulating greens sit up to 20 feet above the lush, rolling fairways, which can create some tricky pin placements if you're not careful. Old Corkscrew Golf Club's fairways are rather generous, but they are framed by carefully sculpted bunkers. Several large ponds come into play on nearly every hole and there are also numerous sand traps strategically placed along the greensides.

Old Corkscrew
Great golf course with a fantastic layout. The course is in great shape from tee box to green, some of the green have a few spots from a fungus but they look like they are improving. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Believe the poor reviews
Don't be fooled by:
1. Good reviews
2. The GN featured price
3. Staff underplaying the bad condition of greens
Believe only the bad reviews!!! Greens are unplayable ruining your golf experience. This is a beautiful and challenging golf course, but.....don't be lured in by the lowered price...wait it out 6 months or more until the greens are playable.
Old Corkscrew
Greens were terrible. I wasn’t told they were diseased when I made the tee time. 5 hour round. Waited on most tees. Check in person was pleasant bag drop staff not very.
Great layout but lost the greens
Layout is great but challenging as not much room to miss off fairway or greens. And the greens were is terrible shape. Extremely slow speed, numerous bare spots on several greens and as a result they don't, or can't, take care of them properly. Sad to see a Nicklaus design fall like this.
Old Corkscrew Golf Course
The course was in terrible shape - not just the greens! Pace of play was horrible and staff did nothing to fix it
Great layout, nice staff…greens???
Nice course, great layout and staff, but condition of the greens was really bad…not advised if conditions in pros not upon checking in, nor was there an adjusted cost for the round…some greens were barely playable yet still charging full-pop??
A true test for players
Hands down my favorite course in SWFL. A true test on how your game is, can’t fake it around here. This course truly tests every part of your game. Been playing here for years and it’s always a pleasure. Pure hospitality from the entire staff from the when you walk in the door. A few greens are patchy but in much better shape than the previous year. Always looking forward to my next round at the screw.
A GREAT TRACK
I love this golf course and will most definitely play it again. Really fun, some challenging holes, but no houses! The natural layout was spectacular.
The greens were really starting to shape up.
Great Layout, Greens are coming back
Played a couple of days ago. The Course Layout is great (Nicklaus Signature Design), and the greens are coming back (just 4 greens are still affected). Overall really good, staff is great and very peaceful on the course (no homes)
Very fun layout ; horrible greens.
Played on 3/15 with a buddy of mine. Course layout is amazing. The greens had some sort of fungus that ruined about 75% of the putting surface. The parts that are decent are slower than your carpet. Apparently they are redoing the greens this summer. I recommend playing it once that’s completed
Great course/layout
Course layout is amazing, greens are recovering and getting better, only 3 greens are still recovering. Overall really good, layout (Nicklaus signature design)
Terrible greens - great layout
Course layout is great but too many greens are damaged and virtually unplayable. When greens are in good shape this is a very nice course.
The tees and fairways were in good shape, but the greens were horribly diseased. It was recommended by the Staff that four greens should be a max of two putts as they were so badly diseased. I thought I received a "Hot Deal" at $133.00 and I was sadly mistaken. They should not be charging more than $80.00 regardless the time of the day and during PEAK season. Terribly disappointed.
Bring your best game, but not right now.
Played this past weekend on a windy day with a full course of golfers. A Nicklaus course, this one is very challenging (slope of 141 from the whites) under ideal conditions. But a number of the greens are suffering from fungus, with some containing significant areas of sand/dirt. We were informed of this as we arrived, but told the rate was discounted by roughly a third from the normal rate. Paid $195 plus tax.
The course is a handful for mid-handicappers (more than that on the windy day we had) and a predictable source of frustration and delay for those with higher handicaps who don't know when to put the ball in their pockets. These factors led to waiting for the group ahead, and being held between green and next tee a couple times by marshals who were friendly and apologetic. The friendliness of all the staff we encountered was notable.
My view: If you're a low to low-mid handicap player and want a real challenge, this course will give it to you. But even with a reduced rate and a friendly staff, I don't consider it a good value right now. Wait until the greens are healthy again and peak season is a thing of the past, then bite off all you care to.
Greens wrecked
All 18 greens have been ruined by a fungus and filled with sand. Virtually unplayable.. would have been nice to know before they took my money.
Bad condition
Course in horrible shape. They need to fix it or shut it down. Taking people’s money
Thank you for playing Old Corkscrew. We understand your frustration . Our grounds crew and superintendent are hard at work daily to improve the greens. We have lowered our price (originally $275 this time of year) to make it more fair. We thank you for your patience and hope to see you soon.
