Blue Heron Golf Course
About
Blue Heron Golf Course, formerly known as Carnation Golf Course, first opened in 1967 but underwent a major renovation, in addition to the name change, after it was bought in 2011. Located in the Snoqualmie Valley, the course would occasionally be overrun by the Snoqualmie River but thanks to improved drainage and irrigation features added in the renovation, the course is able to drain remarkably fast. At just a few yards shy of 6,000 yards, Blue Heron G.C. is on the shorter side but that is no indication of its level of difficulty. Golfers will face a variety of challenges including an abundance of bunkers strategically placed throughout. One of the toughest holes is the par-5 17th, which is a blind tee shot where a long iron might come in more handy than a driver.

As of June 18, the course is at its peak.
I have played this course since the early 1980's. When it reopened it was rough for a while, but the have the greens great, and the conditions good. The tees are sparse in spots, but does not effect play at all. The course has tightened over the years as trees have grown. Although it may rate easy if you hit it crooked it will grab you. I will come back.
Spring outing
I've heard this course is a little wet in the spring, things seemed to just be getting under weigh when I was there. By that I mean all the holes were playable, but some looked at though they had been mowed for the first time this year with heavy clippings still in the fairways. The greater number of holes were in pretty good condition.
Was greeted warmly at the pro shop and given some good tips on the course. Afterwards I stopped in for a Kobe burger and brew. I highly recommend the restaurant. One of the best burgers in the valley and attentive service.
Going Down Hill Again
I've played this course for almost 30 years. I've seen it when it was in excellent condition, then go down hill, then go bankrupt and close for 2 or 3 years, then reopen a few years ago with hew ownership that made significant improvements. The course was looking up and had a nice new restaurant.
Now it seems management is letting the condition of the course and facilities go down hill again.
- Clumps of mowed grass not picked up.
- Most of the ladies tee boxes are not level, or mostly
mud, or have grass that is too high. A few of the mens
tee boxes have sparse grass and/or grass that is too
high.
- Downstairs ladies restroom had broken cold water pipe, partially flooded floor, and no soap.
- No hand disinfectant in on-course port-a-potties.
- #9 - Cart path cuts across fairway about 200 yards from tee, but grass within 20 feet of either side of path is rough length. Really odd to have long grass in middle of fairway.
Tough Course
Great course, long and hard at times, must hit ball straight, even then tough
Fun golf course
Fun and friendly. Fairly tight fairways but short flat course.
Greens a little slow
low cost - low value
Maybe the worst condition of any course I have played in my 40 yrs of golf. Grass clippings not picked up anywhere on course, including fairways. Tee boxes had grass 1.5 and above in length, I personally pulled weed/flowers out of most just cause I could not stand it. Greens were so poor and bumpy we gave up putting and just took two putt. It was so bad it made it fun. However outrageous quite setting.
back nine closed
Booked through golf now.com, expected to play 18 holes, back nine were closed, had we known this we would have found a different course, in looking at other reviews, I can only assume that golf now was aware of the situation and should make us the public know what to expect instead of taking our money .
Money back
WE paid for 18 holes up front , only the front 9 were open, Back 9 were closed
Half of course was closed
Arrived for our tee time and were Told the back 9 was closed due to flooding and wind damage. It was not stated on GolfNow that half the course was closed and we would be paying to play 9 holes twice. The course was in poor condition, they didn’t even clean branches off the fairways or the fringe around the greens. 1 out of five stars, would not recommend
Big surprise
A totally shock to see the conditions of the course that was so badly maintained and the back 9 holes are closed. No grass on fairways that are covered by leaves all over. The green is bad too. Will never play there again.
Dry fairways and bumpy greens
The fairways are super dry not sure if they even water them, impossible to pull a divot. The greens are nearly unplayable the ball bounces in all on the holes on the greens. If that isn’t bad enough the pace of play was even worse no marshal to be found. I’ve been golfing for over 20 years by far the worse course conditions I’ve seen. Quit round half way through.
Maybe next year
Compared to the other courses I've been playing at in the area this one is in by far the worst condition. Couple that with the added remoteness of the course makes the slightly cheaper greens fees not worth the trip. I would recommend the course only if you really want to get a round in and couldn't even get a tee time that worked for you anywhere else.
Great fun.
This course needs some tlc and some weed killer. Greens are nice. T boxes and fairways need some care and attention. Course conditions really did not effect shots. Mature course.
Not worth it
There is a reason this course is always available on GolfNow and it is because it is so overpriced. They should figure this out. But got stuck there because GolfNow has such crappy selection of courses in the area. Best thing is that it was only a 3 hour round since others don't want to pay even more to play there. Paved cart paths for most holes are new but tee boxes were grassless and extremely hard, tough to get a tee in them. The weeds were mostly green so not completely dried out. Should be about $20 to play.
Blue Heron Adventure
The course was in great shape. It is so much improved from years past. Located on a flood plain, it requires lots of love from the superintendent and greens crew. They sure did provide it, well done! It was a nice quiet day with pleasant people. The restaurant staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. The Pro Shop staff were every bit the same. Thank you for a great day.
Nice day of golf
Nice course for mid-level players...not real long. Best to stay on the fairways, though, finding wayward balls isn't easy! Greens were slow, but well groomed and consistent.
A fun course
It's relatively short on flat ground near the river's edge.
Update: Played again on 7/1 and course conditions were much improved. Clumps of mowed grass were gone. Also, the greens were in excellent condition. I've never seen them better. However, the downstairs restrooms were actually in worse condition. Both were "out-of-order", and the men's toilet had apparently overflowed. These things happen, but why didn't someone clean up the overflow (toilet paper, brown water, etc.) from in front of the restroom?
