Blue Heron Golf Course
About
Blue Heron Golf Course, formerly known as Carnation Golf Course, first opened in 1967 but underwent a major renovation, in addition to the name change, after it was bought in 2011. Located in the Snoqualmie Valley, the course would occasionally be overrun by the Snoqualmie River but thanks to improved drainage and irrigation features added in the renovation, the course is able to drain remarkably fast. At just a few yards shy of 6,000 yards, Blue Heron G.C. is on the shorter side but that is no indication of its level of difficulty. Golfers will face a variety of challenges including an abundance of bunkers strategically placed throughout. One of the toughest holes is the par-5 17th, which is a blind tee shot where a long iron might come in more handy than a driver.

Don't Want To Play Here In Fall, Winter or Spring
Even though the pro shop guy was amiable and helpful, I gave a sub-par rating to Blue Heron. This course needs some serious TLC, fairways left to grow 3" with muddy patches, lost three balls to the mud and tall fairway grass within 5 holes, gave up after 6 while paying for 18.
I might try this course in the summer, but in it's current condition, I wouldn't recommend it at all unless you like playing mudball in swampland.
coming along
I got to talk to a few folks out here and apparently it has been a rough dry summer for the course. After a couple rainy days, it is greening back up. Most greens have huge brown spots that are plugged and sanded. Fairways are just ok. Tee boxes are very compacted. The greens are quite flat and easy to read. There was hardly anyone there on a Wednesday, so if you can grab a "hot deal," it is worth the drive. The very old giant maples are fabulous !!
Open in the sun
Sunny day, not crowded, overgrowth trimmed, even got a few pars :)
Carnation
For the price, $ 14 per person... Great value! Told my son he had to play some run down courses so he could appreciate the really nice ones!!!
Golfing at the Heron
Generally i enjoy playing the Heron. Its a basic golf course tee to green. Not many bunkers to worry about, Water can come into play on a few holes but its pretty straight forward. With the super dry summer we've had here in the Pacific Northwest the course is currently as dry and burnt out as i've ever seen it. Played the back nine and many of the greens are also burnt up. With the current course conditions is would be nice to see discounted rates but i understand that won't make paying the water bill any easier. All in all it was a good afternoon out with my lady riding shotgun. Birdied a few holes, downed a cold Silver Bullet, good times, and thats what its all about anyway right,,,,
All style, no sunstance.
The facilities are very nice, friendly staff. The course however, was total garbage. It has been an unusually hot summer, but I still was extremely unimpressed. If I hadn't paid the twilight rate, I would have asked for money back.
I do have to say, the end of the round burger was stellar.
Poor management
Tee time was scheduled for 12:30. No carts. Since a Real Estate scramble was to start at 12:00. Finally got a cart at 12:20 and did tee off at 12:40. Went downhill from there. Had to wait at every tee. Slower and slower. No course ranger keeping the scramble going. Course ranger gave up cart . No tee times should have been scheduled following the scramble for at least two hours. Really poor course management. A 6 hour round. Arrogant scramble people would not let smaller groups go through. A disaster.
Terrible shape
Greens were watered and that's it... yellow and dried out... tee boxes were so hard you couldn't get a tee in the ground... fairways brown..
Fun Day on the Links
Grass was really dry, but it was still fun, I will golf here again
Would not play again
Fairways were the worst I've played on in a while, has to step on tees to get them into the tee boxes, everything was dry. Pretty much had to lay up about 30 yards in front of green otherwise the ball would roll for days. The layout itself would be nice and challenging if the condition were better. For the price it was a complete waste in my opinion. The club house was great and the service there was great also, like I said could be a nice little course.
dry
With the unusual weather we are having, the course was dried out and the ground hard. Balls would roll out 30-50 yards from where you would think they would be. Greens were pretty good but some of them were missing some grass. Tee boxes very hard to get a tee into, they had been punched but still hard .
Living up to its name there was a heron near #15.
Yuck
Tee boxes, fairways and greens are in terrible shape.
Food was good.
Needs to be Better
I really want this course to make it back from the grave. But right now it's kicked in the teeth. The Tee Boxes are almost dirt, fairways are pretty beat up, and the greens are burned out. They spent all that money on the club house but not enough clearly on what matters, the course. It seems like the condition is worse since the summer of 2014 when I last played this course. They need to step up their game if this course is going to survive.
Great course for the money!
Nice course layout, plenty of trees for shade, ample bunkers and water hazards, a few greens had burned out patches due to heat, exceptional food at a great price!!!!! If the chef leaves it would be a shame. Overall the experience:cost ratio is excellent!
Disappointed outing
Greens were in great shape, but the tee boxes and fairways were awful. Fairways were so hard it was like hitting off the pavement in some places. Tee boxes hardly had any grass on them and were rock hard.
Mixed
Staff were exceptionally courteous and helpful, unlike some other courses. They impressed us as wanting us to come back. Food was very good. Course front nine were in good shape. Back nine not so good. Water puddled in some fairways and rough too deep to even find your ball. We lost several in it. Needs mowing. Will go back as overall a fun course.
Drying Out
The front 9 was in much better shape than the back 9. Greens were slow and very sandy. Food at the clubhouse/restaurant was very good as usual.
Great deal. Course needs improvement
Fairway and greens very choppy. Got an amazing deal on golfnow.com
Nice layout
Recovering from usual flooding. Should be in much better shape as it dries up and they continue to improve
barn yard course
This is the worst golf course in the Pacific Northwest. There is mud, water, little grass on the fairways and the greens had patches of no grass. It seems as if no one in the staff knows how to grow fairway grass or how to drain the course. The prices should be less than $10 for 18 holes for everyone due to the condition of this place. Never again.
