Blue Heron Golf Course, formerly known as Carnation Golf Course, first opened in 1967 but underwent a major renovation, in addition to the name change, after it was bought in 2011. Located in the Snoqualmie Valley, the course would occasionally be overrun by the Snoqualmie River but thanks to improved drainage and irrigation features added in the renovation, the course is able to drain remarkably fast. At just a few yards shy of 6,000 yards, Blue Heron G.C. is on the shorter side but that is no indication of its level of difficulty. Golfers will face a variety of challenges including an abundance of bunkers strategically placed throughout. One of the toughest holes is the par-5 17th, which is a blind tee shot where a long iron might come in more handy than a driver.

dry

With the unusual weather we are having, the course was dried out and the ground hard. Balls would roll out 30-50 yards from where you would think they would be. Greens were pretty good but some of them were missing some grass. Tee boxes very hard to get a tee into, they had been punched but still hard .
Living up to its name there was a heron near #15.

Needs to be Better

I really want this course to make it back from the grave. But right now it's kicked in the teeth. The Tee Boxes are almost dirt, fairways are pretty beat up, and the greens are burned out. They spent all that money on the club house but not enough clearly on what matters, the course. It seems like the condition is worse since the summer of 2014 when I last played this course. They need to step up their game if this course is going to survive.

Great course for the money!

Nice course layout, plenty of trees for shade, ample bunkers and water hazards, a few greens had burned out patches due to heat, exceptional food at a great price!!!!! If the chef leaves it would be a shame. Overall the experience:cost ratio is excellent!

Disappointed outing

Greens were in great shape, but the tee boxes and fairways were awful. Fairways were so hard it was like hitting off the pavement in some places. Tee boxes hardly had any grass on them and were rock hard.

Mixed

Staff were exceptionally courteous and helpful, unlike some other courses. They impressed us as wanting us to come back. Food was very good. Course front nine were in good shape. Back nine not so good. Water puddled in some fairways and rough too deep to even find your ball. We lost several in it. Needs mowing. Will go back as overall a fun course.

Drying Out

The front 9 was in much better shape than the back 9. Greens were slow and very sandy. Food at the clubhouse/restaurant was very good as usual.

Nice layout

Recovering from usual flooding. Should be in much better shape as it dries up and they continue to improve

barn yard course

This is the worst golf course in the Pacific Northwest. There is mud, water, little grass on the fairways and the greens had patches of no grass. It seems as if no one in the staff knows how to grow fairway grass or how to drain the course. The prices should be less than $10 for 18 holes for everyone due to the condition of this place. Never again.

Back 9 looked like a tornado was through

The front 9 was in good condition. They probably should have closed several holes on the back 9 or just let you play the front 9 twice since they were logging the back 9 and it was hazardous and difficult to find balls even in the fairways.

Lower rating due to prior weather conditions

The course was in fair condition.
Recent flooding was the cause of impact, vs, anything the staff could control.
The back 9 was closed due to flooding the day before. We ended up playing the front 9 twice.
The weather co operated and was very enjoyable.
Pace of play was excellent, as only a few players on the course.
The restaurant staff was GREAT, and food good! I recommend their Bloody Mary's!

Good things happening here

I had not played this course in years as it was somewhat on the downhill but boy have they changed this place all around. The clubhouse and restaurant have been renovated right along with the course. Only 31 miles from my house but takes about an hour to get there so was hoping that what I heard with regards to the improvements was true. It was! Course is in good condition and we had lunch on the turn and glad we did. The lamb burger is awesome as was the service. Glad I made the trip again and will be back in the spring!

It's out there....

and the fairways/greens reflected that. Had been recently Aerated which was not noted on Golfnow... but it didn't ruin the day.

Not worth the gas to drive there.

Course was in very rough shape. Fairways almost non existent, greens were aerated and covered in sand (no mention of this when booking tee time) making them basically unplayable. Poorly marked distance points. This was my first time playing Blue Heron, and sadly I will not be returning any time soon.

Fun Friendly and Scenic

Friendly staff and course in good shape. A little hard to find balls with the leaves on the ground and they could mark the yardage a little better. But fun course to play and the price is right with the specials.

friendly staff

I had some problems on my car after my round. Under rainy weather, the manager gave favors for me, such as telephone, internet and even trying efforts to solve the problem himself. Nearly at closing time, I can drive my car home. He was a very friendly-minded staff.

Great Value, Great Progress

This course has the most interesting layout of any of the "valley: courses, excluding TPC and Aldarra. Water comes into play on several holes and there are nasty trees to contend with constantly. Its not a long course, but the greens are vastly improved from years past. This course was left to die about 3-4 years ago, and they have done a terrific job of making it playable again. The greens are fast and the club house is top notch. Come out and support them, in 2-3 years it could be the top value course in the valley. They have made some great first strides.
