About
Blue Heron Golf Course, formerly known as Carnation Golf Course, first opened in 1967 but underwent a major renovation, in addition to the name change, after it was bought in 2011. Located in the Snoqualmie Valley, the course would occasionally be overrun by the Snoqualmie River but thanks to improved drainage and irrigation features added in the renovation, the course is able to drain remarkably fast. At just a few yards shy of 6,000 yards, Blue Heron G.C. is on the shorter side but that is no indication of its level of difficulty. Golfers will face a variety of challenges including an abundance of bunkers strategically placed throughout. One of the toughest holes is the par-5 17th, which is a blind tee shot where a long iron might come in more handy than a driver.

Beautiful setting, but….
This course has so much potential. The setting is worth the effort. Course upkeep, though…. Where do I start? The rough isn’t too bad, but there is no distinguishing between the rough and the fairway — which is to say, on most holes there really is no fairway per se. Greens are very inconsistent - baked dry on one, soft on the next. I had to rent a cart (bad knees) and the first one was dying from the moment we left.
Having said that — personnel were trying hard. Great group of teenage boys on the August weekend we were there. The grill was actually nice. All in all, though. Lot of improvement necessary before I will drive out to Carnation again.

Nice and fair
Although playing in a dry period of time, the course was in a good condition. Only the tee area was very tough and it was sometimes not possible to tee in. No ball washing facilities, few garbage facilities, but playing was fun and relaxing.
Some holes with ponds after the tee and some water coming in play, nice views to cascadian area

Go just a little farther
The little things matter. Invest in the different color pin placement flags.
Red - A red flag indicates the hole is at the front of the green.
White - A white flag signals the hole position is in the middle of the green
Blue - A blue flag denotes the pin is at the back of the green.

Good Value but Rough Condition: Bare spots in fairways & inconsistent greens but good
Friendly staff and the GN Hot Deal made this a palatable experience. Restaurant is closed on Mondays so rating is based on observation of a nice place and good menu. The green side bunker on #1 is awful: Full of weeds and set the tone for low expectations. Our cart battery died at the 2nd green but I called the pro shop before we went to putt and by the time we had putted out, employee was out to us with a new cart. Plenty of bare spots in the fairways and there was no continuity to the condition of the greens: Some were OK but most were unevenly cut or weed invaded and really had to hammer putts. Suspect the stimpmeter reading would be about 6 or 7, and tee boxes were in rough shape too. But as a 20+ handicap who plays lots of high-end courses, I would still recommend this to anyone looking for a good value. I played with my wife and she is still learning the game and doesn’t like a crowd or paying high prices for places beyond her ability. In short, given the same conditions and price point, we’ll be back.

No Power Carts and no pull carts
I have never shown up at a golf course and not been able to get a power cart or a pull cart. We canceled our round of golf with the pro shop and they were kind enough to give us a rain check but the fact that we drove there and had planned our day around golf, just to have that happen was shocking. If you need a power cart or pull cart, you might wanna call ahead before your round.
