Discovery Bay Golf Club

About
Opened in 1925, Discovery Bay Golf Club, formerly known as Chevy Chase Port Townsend Golf Course, has the distinction of being the oldest public golf course in Washington. Besides its long history, it has also garnered acclaim as one of the best golf courses on the Olympic Peninsula. Situated on the shores of Discovery Bay, the layout enjoys panoramic mountain views spanning the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. There is more to the course than scenery though. The classic design is challenging enough to appeal to low handicappers while still being accessible for beginners. The course's back nine is more challenging than the front, featuring challenging elevation changes and some tricky lies. Be sure to bring your camera for the breathtaking view on Discovery Bay Golf Club's 10th tee.

greens are so slow and bumby , almost unplayable
rest of course is OK, few bunkers with weeds though
good layout, no staff or modern equipment to get course in good shape
Kind of Sad
This course is sadly in disarray. It’s currently up for sale and that being said I would think it would have been in better shape.
Negatives: front 9 is baked out, greens were “shaggy” unkept/not mowed. Driving range is really sad. Only food access is a refrigerator with drinks and some basic snacks.
Positives: Staff was friendly, pace of play was whatever you wan. Friendly golfers.
Another great day at the course
It was a beautiful day and the only complaint I had was it was pretty slow pace other than that I feel like they always make it a great day at Discovery Bay.Thanks Golfnow for the great deal
Poor Course Conditions
Sadly, the front nine is mostly brown grass withe non non-existent tee boxes. The course at one time was nice probably, but those days are gone. As the only course nearby Port Townsend folks have other option.
Unacceptable for $50 for me...
I am not the wealthiest person out there, but ive got enough to golf pretty regularly. Id rather play once a week at Port Ludlow / Whitehorse / Gold Mountain than play twice here. Whitehorse and Ludlow are absolute Gems. Gold Mountain ain't a slouch either. Too much good golf around here to waste time playing at this course.
Course has potential. Staff was fine. After a dissapointing 9 i went to Ludlow and got my socks blown off. I wouldnt expect it, but I was still a little bummed to have received only $10 refunded for my inconvenience when they could have easily hand written a rain check for 18 for my buddy who lives locally (I paid for two 18s with cart originally).
I hate writing a bad review. I hope I said nice encouraging things too. But this is for other vacationers. Let me save you the hassle of a sore wrists hitting off cement.
Challenging course
This is a long course with plenty of challenges, particularly on the back nine. The course is well-maintained, though the fairways are not as closely mown or consistently watered as some courses. The only drawback was the lack of restaurant (we like to lunch at the turn). All in all, you get plenty of play for your money.
Good course, but not walkable.
The course is nice. The front nine is walkable. The back nine is difficult to walk. To get to the 10th hole, you must walk a long ways up hill. The hole is also up hill. Then more climbing to get to hole 11. To enjoy this course, get a cart. People who want to walk this course will put you to your limits.
