Fort William Golf Club Course Condition

I booked a tee for myself and my 13-year-old son in July 2025, during a family holiday, at a total cost of £75. Unfortunately, after teeing-off from the 1st it shortly became evident that the condition of the course did not reflect this cost and the condition only got worse. The fairways in particular were in very poor condition, containing embedded rocks and very little grass coverage, which significantly impacted the quality of play - (see pictures attached). The greens were acceptable - albeit slow, but everything else about the course was in very poor condition.

Having played golf for many years at various courses, I can confidently say this was one of the poorest conditioned courses I’ve ever experienced—certainly not one that would typically command such a high green fee. I also found it especially disappointing that my son was charged £30 for his round. This fee represents nearly one-third of his annual subscription at his home club, which is in far superior condition and a club which offers far superior practice and club house facilities.

After contacting the club expressing my views the only reply was one explaining that there was a lift - clean and place ruling in at the time. However, as you will see from the pictures of the fairways you would have to place a piece of Astro turf under the ball to get anything like a decent lie.

A very disappointing experience indeed, even a comical one at times, and one that we will NOT be putting ourselves through again!

A strong word of advise would be to save you money.

Excellent layout with good greens, best course in the area

The surrounding scenery is sensational with the course located under Ben Nevis just outside of Fort William. The clubhouse was closed and being renovated when I played - an honesty box for green fees was in operation. The course is well designed making best use of the landscape of streams and rolling hills. The fairways are a little rough but the greens were good. Pace of play was excellent as I was just about the only person on the course when I played.

Just needs some TLC!

A picturesque and challenging layout off the white tees with many holes bordered by trees. However in desperate need of maintenance. Greens were spongy and poorly mown, fairways were overgrown. Many signs were missing so difficult to find the next tee. 18th green had holes in it from a grass disease? If the course was looked after it would be right up there with the best. Such a shame.
