Needs Water
A lot of the Tee boxes and Greens are burnt, this could be due to reduced staffing.
The greens have divot like holes, the plugs from moving the hole location are coming out.
Best part at this time were the fairways, just as i remembered them.
Could use a rangers presence
Tee’d it up at 9 am; group in front of me was late teeing off, and let me play through on the second tee box no issue there, played the next 3 holes no delays before getting behind 5 groups stacked up, the first two said I was more than welcome to play through as they were waiting on the groups in front of them then the next two groups were another story they were playing a scramble and taking forever, wouldn’t let anyone play through even as everyone stacked in behind them heading to the back nine, I called the clubhouse to ask for a ranger to come out while there were 5 groups over two holes and was told there was only one person working at the course and they couldn’t help. Ended up having to skip 1 hole to get around the two groups holding up play and was smooth sailing from there, doesn’t seem like too much to ask for a ranger on a busy Sunday morning.
The Redheaded stepchild
The obvious "Other" course at Lakeview has some good golf to offer. If you are an average golfer, it might be too difficult to have fun at. When I played, the rough hadn't been mowed for quite a while and it was an aggravation. Narrow fairways on some holes, unique shapes to greens without a lot of size to them. With the right person, this is a fun day.
Course has good features
Been coming to this course for about 8 years now. Layout is good and you have to know where to position your tee ball to score I like this course a lot and the the price is right. It’s still early in the season and I know the staff is trying to cut the grass and fix the greens but I believe the course will be back up to par in a few weeks if the rain stops. It was wet in spots but that is understandable the way the weather has been. I recommend this course to anyone that likes a challenge
Disappointed
Disappointed with the condition of the course. I used to play several times a year, but haven’t played there for about 3 years. Sand traps are gone and now are hard mud pits. Looks like grass hasn’t been cut for a while. Sad to see in this condition as this used to be one of my favorite courses.
Disappointed
First off, the staff is genuinely friendly and kind.
This course is much rougher than in the past. I understand bunkers are rough during this pandemic without rakes for them, however the old bunkers that they are letting grow in are in terrible shape.
The weather has been quite wet, so the heavy heavy rough can be forgiven, but it has become not worth the cost in this kind of condition. And that being said , some holes if you haven’t played here before can be quite challenging with blind landing areas and hard to tell how the hole will layout ahead of you, but this is nothing new.
The surroundings are nice with with views of the lake, at least in the spring and fall while the leaves aren’t present.
I think the course could use a bit of course conditioning to get back to it’s former glory.
Happy it is OPEN
No Complaints in this Challinging time of the Wuhan Virus. The Traps or former Grass Mud areas take away from a Very Nice Tee, Fairway, Green Experience! Overall an Enjoyable Day thou!!!!!
Friendly Staff
The staff has been super and ground crew has done a great job trying to clean up limbs from high winds last week. I like to walk, so staff let me go out early ahead of the foursome. first 6 holes are mostly up hill but after that it starts to flatten out. Greens in great shape, fairways had some rough spots mostly from folks not fixing their divots. They practiced safe procedures for dealing with customers.
Good Experience
Felt very safe from Rona from the start!! Pace of play was great and it was crowded. Staff was very friendly and never once felt unsafe! Played 18 holes in 4 hrs which was great! Course in very decent shape!!
Tricky, still a treat.
The course was challenging and interesting, just not taken care of the way it should be. The fairways were fine, but Sand traps are uncared for - not raked or even weeded in some instances. No distance markets. There were 150 markers, but all were lying on the ground. Greens were in decent shape, except for one. The carts need to be wiped down before each use. They were not. Many were muddy and many ran poorly. The girl in the club house was great - cheerful, helpful, We saw no other staff in the clubhouse. We were just glad to get in some golf. All PA course are closed.
Hope the new ownership brings changes
This could be a nice course and could certainly be a great value. It currently has a few major issues, though, and I hope the new ownership will address them:
(1) There are a couple of really good staff members, especially a young guy who is very attentive with carts, etc., but there are at least a couple of older staff members who pay almost no attention to customers and are slow as molasses. When they are working together, they will converse with each other for ten minutes before even acknowledging that a customer has entered the clubhouse, and when they do finally say hello, they aren't overly pleasant. I hate to bring it up, but I've experienced it on multiple occasions. There have also been times when no staff were in the clubhouse for extended periods.
(2) The computer/internet reservation and payment system needs to be fixed. Over the last two seasons, it was not working properly during more than half the rounds that I played. Either it was insanely slow or not working at all.
(3) As many others have mentioned, the bunkers are a disaster. They are usually rock hard and half-filled with water. If they are not going to be maintained, they should be PROPERLY filled in.
(4) There are an awful lot of rocky/hard-pan areas on some holes that aren't design features.
(5) The rough is often allowed to get way out of hand, which is especially problematic on the several holes with severe cross slopes. I imagine it's difficult to mow those slopes when it's at all wet, but at times it makes for a course that is more near-impossible and extremely frustrating than difficult but enjoyable. This is especially true give than one can hit the right side of several fairways on the fly and still end up in the rough to the left of those fairways.
(6) Trying to putt on the 12th green is just kind of ridiculous.
(7) Some maintenance staff pay no attention to players, and even occasionally blare loud music when working on holes that people are teeing off on. This seems like a simple issue of training. I think these are hard working folks who just haven't been shown how to act on a golf course.
(8) Lakeview needs to more clearly distinguish between the Lakeview Course and the Mountainview Course online. The main Google Map entry for Mountainview places it at the Lakeview course, and it's obviously nowhere near there. The address that comes up for Mountainview is usually 150 Lakeview Drive or 1 Lakeview Drive, depending on the website, whereas the Mountainview clubhouse is actually at (roughly) 4001 Greystone Drive, which is over two miles from there. This makes things really difficult for people playing Mountainview for the first time and for trying to meet up with people who haven't played Mountainview before.
(9) There are some major drainage problems on the first hole, but I do not think that's an easy fix at all and don't really blame the operators.
They have destroyed a beautiful course.
This course in its prime was one most beautiful courses around. Most of the bunkers are so filled with grass and weeds, they are unplayable. The fairways are ok, but there are a lot of areas that are very wet. I have seen worse greens, but not many for any course over $30 a round. A fair price might be $15 for 18 with cart.
Disappointed
Having played this Course, several years ago, I was disappointed to see how it had gone downhill. Let me say that the staff were friendly and accommodating , but the Course maintenance has suffered. The cart paths were a series of broken and pot-holed asphalt, the fairways had a patchwork look of repair attempts and the tee boxes were a mess. Fortunately, the $23 fee was appropriate, but it was still a disappointment. To see how it has deteriorated.
