Terrible course Management
July 4th weekend and nothing is well kept. Rough is a hay field, fairway is subpar. These two courses are never well kept and the best place to go in Morgantown is Mountaineer which is supposed to be the budget course. Rip off for either mountain or lakeview. Go to mountaineer or Preston
Weed engulfed rough course
The course was in terrible shape. Weeds growing up everywhere and the rough was so deep it took forever to find a slightly misplaced ball. The greens were severely pitted and the cart path was a joke. Not the worst place I’ve played but one of them.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the team. Thanks for visiting Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa - Mountainview, and we hope to see you again in the future.
Formerly Nice Course - Condition was Disappointing
I am a fairly new golfer and this was my first time playing Lakeview. My friend who I was playing with, however, is an avid golfer, coaches a local high school golf team, and has played Lakeview before, though this was his first time playing there this year. I booked at Lakeview on his suggestion - he told me it was a reasonably nice course -- about on the same level as Quicksilver Golf Club near Pittsburgh, which I am more familiar with (and which is fairly close in price at ~$50 per round).
In short, the course was not as nice as Quicksilver, and my friend was surprised how much poorer the condition was vs. last year. Most fairways and greens had patches with no grass remaining, the cart paths are getting quite degraded in several spots, and the grass in the rough along the fairways looked as if it had not been mowed in weeks. I am not sure if the thick, long grass rough was intentional, but it certainly altered play and added some unique challenges. First, the thick long grass made it very challenging to find balls hit into the rough. Frequently my friend and I hit tee shots that bounced or rolled into the rough, and though we saw right where they went, when we reached the area, we had to search for 4-5 minutes to find our balls. A couple of times we simply gave up looking and dropped a new ball. Thankfully the course was not crowded or else it would have been quite backed up with people ball hunting 5 feet away from the fairways! The thick grass also made play much more challenging as balls hit through it stopped dead and did not roll; club selection was also much more challenging as well. I realize that this is a part of the game and may have been intentional, but it was certainly noteworthy and only added to the slower pace of play.
In all I could tell the course was one that had been quite nice, but has been let go a bit this season, and as a result is not quite the value I would have expected. As a comparison, a colleague of mine owns Mountaineer Golf Course (where I usually play in Morgantown), and it is a much improved and better better kept course for less money.
Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. We will make note and we hope to see you back at Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa - Mountainview!
Can't trust the recent positive reviews since Lakeview incentivizes people to write them
As noted in many reviews of this course, it has gone downhill. It's in poor shape, yet they still charge like it's a premium course. Several of the greens are in horrible shape, and maintenance is quite poor in general. It's a real shame given the nice layout on a beautiful piece of land.
Recently Lakeview started incentivizing reviews, asking reviewers to provide Lakeview with their GolfNow usernames after leaving reviews in order for a chance to win free rounds. It stands to reason that few people are going to write negative (and honest) reviews if they're hoping to get free rounds. This practice clearly violates GolfNow's?/GolfPass's terms and conditions and it would be nice if the new owners of the course focused on bringing the course back form the dead instead of trying to get people to leave slanted positive reviews.

This review was meant for the Lakeview course. Unfortunately the Mountainview course is in even worse shape. At least the Mountainview course is priced slightly lower.
cow pasture
no maintenance whatsoever. fairways not even cut. cart paths were treacherous. greens slow and not cut. they don't seem to make any effort to maintain the course.

Really?
I've played a lot of golf courses in my life, and I've never seen rough maintained as poorly as it's "maintained" on this course lately. In one of the attached photos, what you see is the edge of the fairway. That 10-12" weedy grass is the "first cut." Seriously. That is not a penalty area; that is what you get to play out of if you miss the fairway by two inches, IF you are lucky enough to find your ball. Really? If you get extra lucky, your ball is also under some gigantic clumps of recently mowed grass that hasn't been cleaned up.
The photo of the bunker actually doesn't look as bad as it does in person. Those are big pieces of some sort of lining material poking up through the sand. What a joke.
As for the cart path photo, that's not far from the green. Good grief.
I hope the new owners are embarrassed by the conditions at this course, but I strongly suspect that they just don't care.

Unbelievably bad…
This course used to be one of my favorite courses in the area to play but it is in the worst shape I have seen it in years. Almost every bunker is now grass and the rough around the fairways was anywhere between 8-12 inches long. The fairway was longer than what a rough should have been. Greens were bumpy and in terrible shape. Never playing here and wasting my money again. Has to be the only course in the Morgantown area worse than Lakeview…unreal.

Lake view review
This course is very well laid out with good signage and a challenging course. Unfortunately like it’s sister course it has not been well maintained. Greens and tee boxes are in rough shape and fairway is inconsistent. Rough was very long and money needs to be put back into the course to bring it back up to quality course.

This course needs a lot of improvements
While the course is in a beautiful area and the layout was challenging the course and the cart path were in very poor shape. The rough was so long you would have a hard time finding anything off the fairway. The same for around the green. The course needs money put back into it to bring it back to what it was.

Disappointing
Mountainview seems to be in a much worse condition than when I last played it 6 years ago. Disappointing to see it has been neglected.

Sad
Have been a regular at this course for the last 15 years. Once was a terrific course, very well maintained. It’s (and Lakeview’s) fall from grace is just tragic. Likely only thing keeping them above water is that there is no decent public courses to play in this area. Staff working there is friendly not a slight on them at all. Ownership/management likely not giving them the tools/staffing to keep this course where it needs to be. Not nearly worth the price of admission for its conditions. Make the drive to PA or MD and play at courses where ownership actually cares.

Nice tract od land with some great views but no maintenance on the course

Good Value - Slow Course…
My wife and I played this course for the first time today and the pace of play was a little painful. Not sure if it was just volume or the grenade-like craters the cart-path… Was pretty busy with looser tee-time schedule. Greens & Fairways were 3/5 and in decent shape for the amount of players the course shoulders. Staff was super friendly and helpful.
1 star if considering the standard rates, 2 if you get a big discount
It's very frustrating to see this course in the shape it's presently in. It's always going to have some quirks due to the landscape -- highly slanted fairways that drop way off on the sides, etc. -- but it's kept up so poorly now. The rough is ridiculous; it's not just that it's long -- although it IS way too long for most recreational golfers to be able to deal with and still enjoy a round -- it's that it's filled with weeds and grass clippings AND crazy long and ready to turn all of your barely-missed fairways into long searches and/or lost balls. The greens still roll reasonably true, but while they used to be a strength of the course, many now feature large burnt-out areas and/or serve as nests for gigantic hole-digging sand wasps. Lately, flags have been placed in stupid locations on a regular basis. The fairways used to be decent, but now many of them are filled with weeds and crabgrass. Many areas that used to be bunkers are no longer sand-filled, which is fine, but instead of being properly cleaned-up and seeded with grass, they are hard-pan areas filled with stones. The carts paths are in horrible shape. Some of the folks in the clubhouse don't pay a ton of attention, so it's not unusual to catch up to groups with more than four people in them playing ridiculously slowly or for a group to jump out and start on the 10th hole even when people are coming off the 9th green, etc.
It's amazing that anyone is willing to pay the full rate to play this course. The only reason that people not at the "resort" play the course is that there is not a single nice, reasonably-priced, full-length public course within 30 minutes of Morgantown. Paradise Lake is the best-kept affordable course in the area, but it's only a 9-hole course and it's short. It's frustrating that if you're willing to drive 40 minutes to an hour from Morgantown, there are a number of beautiful and affordable public courses, but that if you're closer to Morgantown, where many more people actually live, there is nothing. I wish the new owners of Mountainview and Lakeview would visit some of those courses and take notes. It's not that there couldn't be better affordable public golf in Morgantown; it just seems like the course owners in the area have no interest in making it happen. It's a shame. Mountainview is on a beautiful piece of land, but is now typically left in very poor condition. At least at Mountaineer, the other 18-hole public course in the area aside from Lakeview, the rates are slightly more reflective of the shape that the course is in. (Lakeview has many of Mountainview's problems, if to a less extreme extent, but its rates are even higher.)
Terrible
I’ve never seen a golf course fall into such bad disrepair. The greens are absolute garbage. One of the flag sticks wouldn’t even stay up because the cup was full of sand? The greens never grew back properly after they got aerated due to lack of care and now it’s like playing Plinko… will the ball roll left, right or go straight… WHO KNOWS!! I was a member at lakeview for a number of years awhile back and have played mountainview countless times. I live 10 minutes away and will never go back… never.
We’re sorry to hear of your less-than-satisfactory experience and hope you will accept our sincerest apologies.
