After half the groups had teed off and there was still 4 or 5 in front of us. And we were on time. Photo submitted by null on 09/25/2014
Not worth your money - VCGC needs to change…
The nickle and dime you at every corner. First they charge you to park- only public course that does that - then with 20 dollars per player per cart that doesn’t even have gps , on top of green fees, you could be paying upwards of 75 bucks a round. 75 bucks a round for a course that hasn’t fixed its tee box on #1 in at least 5 years!! Hire more staff, repave cart paths, fix tee boxes, and space out tee times just to start. Refuse to play here again unless they drop their prices or fix these glaring holes.
Course could be much better
Played VC many times over the years and probably won't play again for some time. Course is in horrible shape and looks like it's getting worse. The carts are outdated with no GPS yet still being charged way more than we should for 18 plus a cart.
Not worth it
Pace of play unbearable. Over 6 hour pace. Had to skip a few holes. Tee boxes pure trash, you're hitting weeds before the ball everywhere. Some tee boxes were so hard you had to hit off the weeds/grass. There is no way I would ever play here again. Only redeeming quality was the staff was nice
Great day poor play
I see the first tee box finally being repaired so the ladies tee box is in play for all. The greens usual some run fast some slower. Fairways ok. I just did not have it today.
Good Bang for Your Buck
I've been playing Vanny since 1982, and I've always enjoyed playing here, even back in those early rounds when the course had fallen into disrepair. In the last 20 years with more money poured in to the course and with better management it's a fun track providing enough challenges for the average duffer. My biggest beef is with the condition of the tee boxes, although the course does get an overload of play and gets beat up. The fairways and greens are still in pretty good shape for the middle of the summer.
Hidden Gem in NYC
Course was short in spots but very challenging. Fairways and greens in excellent shape for public course. Pace of play was hard to take at times. Definitely need Marshals on the course moving people along. But overall a very Enjoyable Day!
Back in great shape
This used to be the best and prettiest course in NYC, then for YEARS it was minimally maintained by management. It’s clear that they’ve gotten their act together, as with the exception of a few chewed up tee boxes (which is standard at any course at this point in the season) the track is in fantastic shape.
It’s a tough but fair track, the last 4 holes are not to be missed. Play here when you can.
Change is required
I love VCPGC, I learned and improved my game there. While I know it is a public course the pace of the place has reverted to an all-time worse. Being beginner-friendly should not also mean that those beginners don't have to adhere and conform to the etiquette of the muni-golf. Furthermore, the tee boxes also seem to have worsened, in particular on 2 & 7. All in all, I love VCPGC but I can not enjoy myself there even when attempting a low-key round with beginner friends.
VCPGC happens to be moving in the right direction. They have made many new changes this season. You made a complaint about 2 and 7 tee box. 7 it looks like they fix two of the tees and they built and fixed the tee on 1. It’s a public course with probably a low budget and a skeleton crew. And they probably put out 2000 plus rounds a week!
