Course was in very good shape. Greens were smooth and roll true and fast.
Second time playing this course and for the money well worth it. Definitely will play it again. No negatives to say about it. Just a nice course to play.
Wide open course - friendly to those with distance and little accuracy
Today was meant to rain but it didn't and the course was empty as a result. Although water puddles from poor drainage was a slight issue, the greens were fantastic.
rocks and stones
they have boulders in the mounds they are building. you think they want golfers to ruin their clubs. you would think they would have thought of that before just using the mounds as a dumping ground.
Good Local Course
The greens are still in the process of healing from aeration but they are playable. It's a good course in terms of convenience for those that live in NYC that want to play a par 72. (not a place I would travel to play) They are making some renovations like adding new mounds to separate holes, which is good that they are putting money into improvements. Course has to improve on pace of play, seems as though groups aren't spread out enough.
Great cold weather course
As we wind down the season, we're all looking to get some last strokes in. Well Marine Park is par for the task. With the course, particularly the greens, in great condition, you get to practice driving into the wind in a links style setting, while squeezing in your season's last swimgs...Tip: Buy winter golf gloves
Course is looking good!
Greens and fairways are in very good shape. The mounds off the fairways are still very rocky with little vegetation. Good for finding your ball, but bad for health of your club face. Pin placements were very challenging, almost unfair given the speed of the greens. But it's understandable making the putting hard, since the rest of the course is mostly flat and not so challenging. Look forward to going back and lowering my score!
Short Game Challenge
Course conditions from tee to fairway were ok but their greens are in pristine condition. They roll fast and the undulations are crazy. Chipping and putting are put to the test and you really have to plan and execute irons. You can tap a 5 foot downhill breaker and if you miss the hole, you're looking at a 15 foot putt back uphill. Pace of play was brutal at 6 hours, waited on every hole which is frequent according to the locals that I played with.
Good course
Very hard greens but overall a very nice and enjoyable course.
Real golfers should NEVER spend money here
The people who run this course were extremely dishonest. My group of 3 called hours in advance to book a tee time for 315 and the guy told us to just show up because the course was open. After the guy took our money for 18 holes at full price, we realized that there were 3 groups waiting in line to tee off. (30 minute backup). After conferring with the starter, he indicated they just got an afternoon rush but it would open up out there. Fine-- I figured even if we started slow we may get to play 14 holes. (5 hour pace of play). It took us over an hour and 15 minutes to complete 2 holes. (11 hour pace). We called and asked if we could get either a full refund, a partial refund, or even a 9 hole rain check. The cashier claimed they "don't give anything away for free" and "we don't give rain checks". After we reminded him that sending people out for 18 holes at an 11 hour pace is unacceptable for any time of day, he said "when you come in I'll see what I can do". We didn't reach the 6th tee until the 3rd hour, and we had had enough.
When we went into the proshop to ask for the 9 hole rain check, the two men were unprofessional, surly, and rude. They had a callous disregard for their error in overbooking the course to a halt and not telling us that the pace of play was so slow that completing even 9 holes would be unlikely (especially not the 18 we paid for). Barking at your paying customers "let me tell you how public golf works" and "you knew it was crowded out there" is completely unacceptable and intolerable. A paying customer is always right, especially when the starter and cashier know exactly how many people are out there and what is expected. It is very unethical to make false representations about play and just overbook tee times so you can bring in as much money as possible.
The course was in decent playing shape for the price, but as expected it was loaded with hackers and inexperienced players. I only saw one ranger but honestly they tried to stuff so many groups out there that I don't think he could have made it any better anyway. The pace of play was so poor that I believe it was criminal for them to pocket our money the way they did and not try to work out ANY sort of refund or a SIMPLE APOLOGY.
Maybe this was just a bad day (it is aeration season) but I urge anyone who reads this review to NEVER play this golf course. Customers who want to play golf and fork over hard earned money should never be deceived, lied to, and disrespected by the staff the way we were. Courses run this way should go out of business and golfers need to stop paying them money to fleece people like this. This taxpayer funded PUBLIC course cannot continue to operate and degrade our beloved sport that is built on honesty, integrity, and fun.
So far so good.
This is the first course I have ever played in NYC besides the pitch and putts. The greens are amazing. I can honestly say these are the best greens I ever played on. The beer girl is beautiful. I like this course a lot especial being that your in Brooklyn. The only thing I didn't like is that our golf cart had empty soil containers. We were not able to fix certain divots .
great greens and views
play golf 5x a week everywhere ....Marine Park has THE BEST GREENS IVE PLAYED
good course
Course is in great shape, especially the greens. Very well run. However, same as other city courses, they don't allow enough time in between tee times, and because the first three holes are so difficult, it gets backed up very quickly and leads to a slow round.
Longest Course in NYC
I got to say.. the greens were definitely challenging with most sloping back towards the fairway. If you land above the pin.. get ready for a fast roll. The course itself is very open and the fairways are decent and long. Not too many dog legs and it's one of the only Par 72 courses in NYC. The staff.. well they aren't the friendliest. . But I went there to play golf and not to make friends. There's along of course rangers who kept the pace of play up. For a 0815 tee time we played for 4 hrs 15 mins. Not too bad! Overall challenging coursw and it will keep you on your toes.
Sand traps need work
staff is very rude and annoying. The entire staff consists of a bunch of cranky old men who are constantly on your tail before, during, and after your round. Not enjoyable.
Most Improved
The new owners of this course deserve huge credit for the transformation of this once downtrodden hard pan track. Even though it gets lots of play from hackers, retired cops and robbers, the course's beauty is starting to show. The greens are tough but beautiful, the fairways are lush and even most of the tee boxes are in good condition, despite the heavy play and broken tee carcasses. The addition of new berms over the last few years has added to the variety of the landscape and also provides some protection from incoming shots from adjacent fairways. There are several new bunkers with lush sand but many of the old ones require refurbishment. Overall it is a fun and challenging course, even from the white tees at close to 6600 yards.
Slow but sure
Fairways and greens getting better but still recovering from
Winter.
Good Links Golf Course
New management did a great job updating the condition of the golf course, added driving range is an A++. Soon this golf course can become a Championship Course. Keep up the good job!!!
Good Course with Brooklyn 'tude
It's not fun to show up at #1 about 15 minutes before your 10:30 tee time to have the starter tell you your group has already started. So, after an awkward introduction in the fairway and a drop, it was a lovely round. The harsh winter still shows (the putting green is closed until July). The whole course is in rough shape, but the fairways and greens are surprisingly playable. I'd suggest a lift clean and place mentality. A few of the greens are bald in spots, but they don't get badly in the way. Tee boxes look lovely. For north of $50 to walk... Everything could be better. Still, the course stands up for itself and makes for a fun day.
Have a great time at a good course
Marine Park Golf Course isn't a Trump course by any stretch of a golfer's imagination, but you do get your money's worth and more, especially when you play on some of the greens there.
The course is in good shape with three Par 5's and four Par 3's in among the remaining eleven Par 4's of varying yardage - you will not be a bored golfer at MPGC that's for sure.
The staff is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the parking is free.
Consider MPGC an oasis in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of the 'Big Apple'.

If your ball lands on those mounds you are allowed to take a free drop because they are still working on them and growing.
