Kissena Park Golf Course

Kissena is a great short course. Interesting variety of holes that require you to be able to shape some shots left and right to score well. Holes vary widely in diffuculty -- e.g. number 9 is possibly the hardest par 3 in NYC, and number 4 is likely the easiest. There are no holes where you "need" a driver -- in fact most people would score better here with a solid repeatable hybrid or fairway wood -- but 5 or so that are fun grip and rip driver/half-wedge holes, which is good for a short course. Friendly staff and good snack bar with a surprisingly good hand-sliced pastrami on rye. Course condition is generally solid for a muni.

The the annual spring aeration, plus great weather brought a big crowd resulting in a slow round for a par 64 course.

Had a great day of golfing. I was team with some wonderful people. The Tees and fairways were groomed.

But the greens were bumpy. The ball would bounce while rolling to the cup.

Nothing too challenging and nothing fancy. Fairly easy course and always a good time. Carts are in good shape. No par-5's on this course.

Sometimes local kids will run across the fairway on their way to smoke weed in the woods, nothing you can really do about that.

Pace of play is about as good as you an expect from a crowded public course. Worse on weekends, you'll need to be patient on some of the par-3's especially. Generally, the people behind you are aware it's not your fault.

Solid staff that cares about keeping a good pace of play. I wish they had any type of hot food in the clubhouse, even if it's just hot dogs. Tiny bags of chips and granola bars aren't the best options when you've been on the course for hours.

Great prices as always, will be back many times.
