A golfer's course

This course is a true test of golf. It's one of the most challenging in the Metro area. If you appreciate great course architecture, this is a must visit. It's not a course for beginners unless you go with a truly open mind that you're in for a difficult day! Having said that, if you hit the ball where you can see it, and play the proper tees, it's a ton of fun with all the different shots you'll have to hit. The first few holes are tight & narrow, but then the back opens up some. The first hole you get what you see. Keep it right and long to keep out of trouble. Second hole has a blind shot. Aim slightly left of the tower. For almost all of the other holes except those with forced carries, it's better to be short than long, since there is very little room over most greens.

We played in just over 4 hours, but we were waiting for the group in front of us to locate their shots often, which slowed down the game. Relax and enjoy the scenery. The tees were very dry and powdery, and since we had so little rain this summer, not that bad considering. Greens are fast & hard, rough long. I shot 85 playing off 12 and was very happy to do so!

The T Boxes were awful

T Boxes were not maintained as well as some other Westchester public courses. Better to play Mohansic Golf Course.
The greens were rock hard and have do not seem to have been watered in days!
The course is over priced......even though I only paid $31 those that paid the much higher rate should feel robbed!
Get working Hudson Hills ground staff, fix those T boxes or manage them better!
Give the greens some water please.

There is Nothing Redemptive Here

The course is the worse maintained course in the whole system. The value is deplorable, the tee boxes devoid of turf, Fairways pot holed with divots and clumps of grass and they were as hard as concrete. Same for the greens. Is there any irrigation and or sprinklers anywhere,. An embarrassment! There were 2 cart guys and very little evidence of staff anywhere's else. It was a very hot, humid day and there was no water nor were they any mobile refreshment. The club house so far as I can tell offers hot dogs, hamburgers and the de minimus staff is easily and frequently overwhelmed. Somebody should blow this place up and start all over.

dumb layout

I have played courses all over the states and this one has some of the dumbest hole setups I have ever seen, like a lon 2nd shot on one par 5 over a huge area of undergrowth with about a 10 yard wide landing area over the junk. Also almost all, at least half the fairways are roped off and they make you take a cart. It would be quicker to walk.

Water anyone?

I first played HH a few years back, and the course was pricey, but in good condition. As anyone who's ever played there knows, it was a tough track the first time out. I've been itching for a second chance since it ate me up the first time. Well, I finally made it back this past weekend and was highly disappointed. The conditions have declined considerably. For starters, there was no ranger, or anybody for that matter, keeping pace of play. ALL of the water coolers were empty on the entire course, and everyone blamed the not present ranger, and did nothing about it. There were no managers or senior personnel on the grounds, only very young guys running an "upscale" golf course. It would also appear the members and frequent players at this course take very little pride in its condition. The tee boxes are a mess, the fairways are chewed up, and the greens, especially on par threes, look like they endured a recent hail storm. We were actually paired with an older gentleman that didn't replace any of his divots or ball marks. He informed me he plays there frequently, so it seems like it's just the culture there. The only positives were that it's a challenge and they put GPS in the carts since I was there last. I only write this extensive review because this course costs $115 on the weekend, for a non-resident. There are better maintained courses, for half the price, in the relative area. I play every week, and this is top on my list of overpriced this season. Management needs to step it up or lower their prices considerably.

way too tricked up!

This course is NOT one to be played without some clue from an experienced caddy or fellow golfer. There are multiple blind tee shots, and perfectly aimed (or so I thought) and executed shots mysteriously vanished. I lost 3 balls on what I considered perfect shots, and, to be honest, a few more on errant shots. The course does not have any natural "flow". On the contrary, it is unnaturally exaggerated in its contours. Expect extreme sidehill, uphill and downhill lies on this course. The course was in good shape, although a bit soggy (strangely, as it has been extremely dry recently) in spots. The greens were chewed up in places. I got a great deal from golfnow, the staff was very friendly, and I finished my round quickly. However, on balance, it was a frustrating experience for a first timer. If I played there multiple times, I'm sure I'd get the hang of it, and like it better, but it's too pricey for my budget, so it looks like "one and done" for me.

Disappointed

I have to be honest...I was extremely disappointed with this course, but not because of the golf. First, I was surprised how behind we were to get our tee time off on a Friday afternoon. We were 15 minutes behind right out of the gate.

Second, we were looped up with 2 friendly gentlemen, however, one of them was wearing an untucked t-shirt and sneakers. To be honest, this generally doesn't bother me, but combined with the other issues I'm about to address, this was a problem. He was a very nice gentleman and we had a great day with the 2 of them, but clearly there's an issue with enforcing dress code at this course.

Not only did we get out 15 minutes late, but it took roughly 7 holes before a ranger was sent out to push the pace of play on the group ahead of us, who would spend 10+ minutes looking for lost balls. On a course like this, you accept your ball is gone and move on.

Last, but certainly not the least issue - on the 10th hole, we were surprised to turn and look up at the 17th green and witness the following: One man in the group playing in a tank top, the other man in the group playing shirtless. That's not an exaggeration...he had no shirt on. This shows utter disregard for the course and its rules, and I can't imagine that much other course etiquette was followed by these two men.

Here's the thing...I can pay $100 to play at a friend's private club as a guest, play a 3 hour round, and know for sure I won't have to encounter these issues. I can also pay $50 at my local course by my office, which is very nice, but expect to encounter these things and not really care. For $85 each at Hudson Hills for a weekday afternoon round of 18, this is unacceptable. We pay a premium for this course expecting things to run like clockwork and that's not what we experienced. It is incredibly disappointing that a course so nice would not enforce dress code and that there wasn't a single employee aware of the fact that a man was playing in a tank top and another shirtless.

I intend on playing here again but if I witness these things again I will not be returning, because its not worth the price. I can go witness the same things somewhere else for a lot less money.

Tale of two nines

We really did not enjoy the front nine - it felt very gimicky. There were many many blind shots. on some holes - like 2 - it was almost impossible to see where you wanted to aim ball. The Back none was a little more traditional with not many blind shots. Overall conditions were great - except for tee boxes (a little chewed up) Pace of play was 5 hours - which is probably average for a public course.

Slowly But Surely

I really liked this course although it is difficult to know where you are hitting and where you are going the first time you play. Not sure why (maybe just random slow players) but it felt like a slow round. There was never really a halting wait but seemed like every shot there was a very slight wait which added up.

Challenging course with great views

This course is run very well, with friendly staff who are able to keep the tee times on schedule. It took us exactly 4 and a half hours to finish a round on Memorial Day which has been a 7 hour ordeal on other courses.

First time? Better play with a local.

Very nice course, with a lot of challenging blind shots and layups. GPS in cart was negated by a cart path only rule in effect. Considering it was my first time at the course, this was not an ideal situation. I basically was carrying half of my bag across every fairway trying to figure out what the correct play was. I wound up laying up to visible spots on most shots just because I had no idea what was in front of me. All that being said, the course was very nice and I will probably play it again at some point in the future. the greens were fast and challenging and it seemed like a fair test of golf now that I have a slightly better idea of which way the holes go.

Bottom line, call ahead and find out if it's cart path only or your in for about five and a half hours of non-relaxing golf.

Challenging Course with lots of blind shots

Played here in April 2015 w/ 3 buddies. None of us had played here before so course proved to be challenging as there are many holes with blind tee shots. We rode and it was 90 degree rule but seems like you cant get the cart on the fairways too often anyways with the way the curbs are set up which I imagine impacts pace of play. Definitely would not recommend walking the course with all the elevation changes. Overall course was in pretty good shape considering the time of year and the winter we had but no hole really stood out and made us feel compelled to play there again. Seems like they were a bit understaffed as well and there was no beverage/snack cart on a Sunday which was frustrating. If I lived close I may play there once or twice a year as I'm sure county rate is good but since I live about 45 min away I don't feel compelled to play there again.

Challenging

Know where to miss it! Know where to hit it. Know not to take too big a divot. This Fazio track can be had if you can control your misses. Bring extra balls or buy them in the pro shop.

Course shouldn't be open yet

Historically a very nice and very hard course, it shouldn't be open yet. Half the bunkers had snow and ice in them, and the tee boxes appeared to be where they had them at the end of last season and grass hadn't grown yet. All of the par 3 tee boxes were like hitting from bunkers with all the sand filler.

When into the season, it's a nice course, that's very challenging with tight fairways and extreme hills at times. I'll be back come may.....

Good course and good value for money

Good fun course and not too expensive. No holes are really going to blow you away, but this is a good course and is looked after well. Staff are friendly and the course is interesting. Lots of hills so it is definitely a course you have to use a cart. Overall, Pros: Interesting course with good value for money. Cons: No driving range, always appears to be a bug problem in the summer months.
