Disappointed
I have to be honest...I was extremely disappointed with this course, but not because of the golf. First, I was surprised how behind we were to get our tee time off on a Friday afternoon. We were 15 minutes behind right out of the gate.
Second, we were looped up with 2 friendly gentlemen, however, one of them was wearing an untucked t-shirt and sneakers. To be honest, this generally doesn't bother me, but combined with the other issues I'm about to address, this was a problem. He was a very nice gentleman and we had a great day with the 2 of them, but clearly there's an issue with enforcing dress code at this course.
Not only did we get out 15 minutes late, but it took roughly 7 holes before a ranger was sent out to push the pace of play on the group ahead of us, who would spend 10+ minutes looking for lost balls. On a course like this, you accept your ball is gone and move on.
Last, but certainly not the least issue - on the 10th hole, we were surprised to turn and look up at the 17th green and witness the following: One man in the group playing in a tank top, the other man in the group playing shirtless. That's not an exaggeration...he had no shirt on. This shows utter disregard for the course and its rules, and I can't imagine that much other course etiquette was followed by these two men.
Here's the thing...I can pay $100 to play at a friend's private club as a guest, play a 3 hour round, and know for sure I won't have to encounter these issues. I can also pay $50 at my local course by my office, which is very nice, but expect to encounter these things and not really care. For $85 each at Hudson Hills for a weekday afternoon round of 18, this is unacceptable. We pay a premium for this course expecting things to run like clockwork and that's not what we experienced. It is incredibly disappointing that a course so nice would not enforce dress code and that there wasn't a single employee aware of the fact that a man was playing in a tank top and another shirtless.
I intend on playing here again but if I witness these things again I will not be returning, because its not worth the price. I can go witness the same things somewhere else for a lot less money.
Tale of two nines
We really did not enjoy the front nine - it felt very gimicky. There were many many blind shots. on some holes - like 2 - it was almost impossible to see where you wanted to aim ball. The Back none was a little more traditional with not many blind shots. Overall conditions were great - except for tee boxes (a little chewed up) Pace of play was 5 hours - which is probably average for a public course.
Slowly But Surely
I really liked this course although it is difficult to know where you are hitting and where you are going the first time you play. Not sure why (maybe just random slow players) but it felt like a slow round. There was never really a halting wait but seemed like every shot there was a very slight wait which added up.
Very challenging!
I enjoyed playing this course. However over priced!
Hudson Hills
Excellent challenging course good shots required and rewarded greens are true bring an extra sleeve of balls
Challenging course with great views
This course is run very well, with friendly staff who are able to keep the tee times on schedule. It took us exactly 4 and a half hours to finish a round on Memorial Day which has been a 7 hour ordeal on other courses.
First time? Better play with a local.
Very nice course, with a lot of challenging blind shots and layups. GPS in cart was negated by a cart path only rule in effect. Considering it was my first time at the course, this was not an ideal situation. I basically was carrying half of my bag across every fairway trying to figure out what the correct play was. I wound up laying up to visible spots on most shots just because I had no idea what was in front of me. All that being said, the course was very nice and I will probably play it again at some point in the future. the greens were fast and challenging and it seemed like a fair test of golf now that I have a slightly better idea of which way the holes go.
Bottom line, call ahead and find out if it's cart path only or your in for about five and a half hours of non-relaxing golf.
Challenging Course with lots of blind shots
Played here in April 2015 w/ 3 buddies. None of us had played here before so course proved to be challenging as there are many holes with blind tee shots. We rode and it was 90 degree rule but seems like you cant get the cart on the fairways too often anyways with the way the curbs are set up which I imagine impacts pace of play. Definitely would not recommend walking the course with all the elevation changes. Overall course was in pretty good shape considering the time of year and the winter we had but no hole really stood out and made us feel compelled to play there again. Seems like they were a bit understaffed as well and there was no beverage/snack cart on a Sunday which was frustrating. If I lived close I may play there once or twice a year as I'm sure county rate is good but since I live about 45 min away I don't feel compelled to play there again.
Challenging
Know where to miss it! Know where to hit it. Know not to take too big a divot. This Fazio track can be had if you can control your misses. Bring extra balls or buy them in the pro shop.
Course shouldn't be open yet
Historically a very nice and very hard course, it shouldn't be open yet. Half the bunkers had snow and ice in them, and the tee boxes appeared to be where they had them at the end of last season and grass hadn't grown yet. All of the par 3 tee boxes were like hitting from bunkers with all the sand filler.
When into the season, it's a nice course, that's very challenging with tight fairways and extreme hills at times. I'll be back come may.....
Fantastic
The course was in great condition! It was a cold and rainy day so there were only two other groups out there.
Good course and good value for money
Good fun course and not too expensive. No holes are really going to blow you away, but this is a good course and is looked after well. Staff are friendly and the course is interesting. Lots of hills so it is definitely a course you have to use a cart. Overall, Pros: Interesting course with good value for money. Cons: No driving range, always appears to be a bug problem in the summer months.
nice cousre
course condition was excelent.
green condition was escelent.
Very rude Assistant General Manager
A gentleman who claims himself the assistant GM of the course was extremely rude to the players. We were instructed by the starter to start with the 10th hole. so upon finishing the back 9, we returned to hole #1. This assistant GM, who was playing with another guy, saw us and came with the presumption that we were trying to cheat another round of golf out of them, and told us that we need to pay the replay fee. First of all, he failed to identify himself as someone working on the course, secondly, he approached us with the wrong presumption that we are trying to replay without paying... Overall a very horrible experience and really wonder why a mannerless and rude guy like this can be allowed to work there
Great public course
A great public course, a little on the expensive side but you get what you pay for. Blows away the other westchester county courses in quality.
Great public golf course in Westchester
Great course with a lot of blind holes. Greens were in great shape.
The course was no fun playing
Too many blind spots from the tee box and fairway. The course was wet, carts on cart path only. Walking to Your ball not sure of the yardage and the club you will need. Too many Mosquitos. My overall experience was not good. I have an office tournament schedule to be played there which I will cancel. Not a good experience.
Nice Course
This was an exceptionally well maintained public course. The challenge lies on the front nine, where many of your tee shots are blind. It was difficult for everyone in our group as it was our first time playing this course. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a moderately challenging outing. Pace of play on this holiday weekend was extremely slow, with our round taking nearly 6 hours. We spent a lot of time on each tee box waiting for the groups in front of us. Make sure you have the time to play a long round.
Great Challenge
Course is a great challenge. Front 9 is not very long but you need to strategically place your tee shot on most of the holes. Back 9 plays longer but it is more open so you can grip it and rip it.
