Grey Hawk Golf Club
About
Grey Hawk Golf Club is a challenging but playable course that is a Cleveland area favorite. It brings resort-quality golf to a remote location in LaGrange that is seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The rolling landscape is the ideal terrain for links-style golf. The course demands accuracy with lightning fast greens surrounded by bunkers and be sure not to stray from the fairways or you'll almost definitely be left with an uneven lie. Unlike a typical links golf course, there are water hazards coming into play on several holes on this layout. The 11th hole features a tricky island green while the third hole has an equally challenging "island green" that is surrounded by sand. Grey Hawk Golf Club is a formidable but fair test with interesting and diverse hole designs.

Mid September Review
This was the first time I have played Grey Hawk this year. It is one of the best designs in the area. It is a big modern course, it is wide, fairly long. Every hole is unique, no two holes are close to being the same. Mainly a links style, but look out for hole 7, 8, & 9, they are have more trees, and are three of the toughest hole in the area.
We played Sunday afternoon, we played in 5:25 minutes, it was slow. There was an event in front of us, possibly the reason for the slow play. The conditions were average at best, bunkers were all in good shape. The rough had several areas roped off, from being burnt out (this has been the case for as long as I have been playing this course).
It is a fun tough course. The weather has been dry and hot, so I am fairly forgiving of the burnt out grass, but maintenance is the biggest issue for Grey Hawk. Two island greens, on in water and one on sand.
Private course feel at Gray Hawk
We loved this course, the fastest greens I've been on this year. Beautiful course.
Challenging Course
Challenging track. Greens in great shape Fairways good too. little rough around the edges planted with grass seed. I am looking forward to playing again
GreyHawk Blew Me Away ............
GreyHawk continues to get better, especially the greens .........but this day it was all about the WIND. The wind could turn some good shots into OB or water balls, and poor ball-strikers (like myself) didn't have a chance. The perimeters still look ugly, but if you keep in fairway, you should have a good time watching the other balls fly far & wide. Everybody needs to repair balls-marks & replace fwy divots, and more than just their own. The Hot Deals Special was great price for Labor Day, but pace-of-play was rather slow, with golfers taking advantage of the last days of Summer.
Enjoyable, challenging layout
The course is coming back. Some spotty fairways, receptive greens and a few challenging holes carved out of the terrain. If you've never played the course, it's a must than you can decide.
Challenging but fun
Course is tougher than most but fun to play. Two island greens (1 bunkered & 1 water). Water in play on half the holes. I played course once in 2016 and didn't return due to course condition. Have played at least a dozen times this year since tee boxes, fairways and greens are in great condition. Staff is great with nice clubhouse and restaurant.
Grey hawk
Greens are sweet. Bunkers have rocks in them. Rough around edges. Good pace
Much Improved
Haven't played Grey Hawk in about 2 years and it has greatly improved since the last time I played. They took out a lot of bunkers, but is still a challenging course. The fairways were very nice and the greens were in nice condition, but need to teach people to repair ball marks! The pace of play was horrible for a late Sunday afternoon round. Need to have a ranger on the course because you should not have to wait for every shot on every hole! Overall the course is coming back to what it once was and I will play again for sure!
GreyHawk can be a Humbler .........
First, my review is biased because I love GreyHawk - the challenging layout, the increasingly better course conditions, and the Staff (Golf Pro & restaurant) very pleasant & accommodating .........but this Sunday afternoon was handicapped by some very slow play. This is a tough course for the experienced golfer, and GreyHawk can certainly eat up your time, especially if you distribute a few errant shots. I don't know if our group followed beginners or what, but usually slow players have no regard to the circumstance of backing up groups behind them. Its fun to play GreyHawk, but could have been even more enjoyable had it not been for the slow pace-of-play.
Grey Hawk 8/9/2017
The course is very challenging - wayward shots are penal. The course has recovered significantly from all the burned out spots and damaged greens from a couple years ago. It's a fun course but you need your A+ game to score. My only complaint would be that there were no yardage stakes. There were some yardages on sprinkler heads - but of course you can't see them unless you are next to it. So figuring out angles and yardages is difficult- even with gps.
Wonderful experience
Challenging test from the tips & found the tees, fairways & greens to be in great shape w/ speedy greens. Traps are in great shape w/ plenty of sand & holes w/ water - very intimidating. Par 5's are quite the beasts. Range / chipping / putting areas all in great condition & excellent facility to practice. Look forward to round #2 @ this challenging layout - well worth the drive from Wedtlake.
The best golf course ever
Grey hawk was the best golf course in Ohio.
Course condition, staff, course layout ... all of them are perfect for me to play.
and some hole are little bit moderate but mostly it was very challenging,
best golf course for intermediate golfers.
Getting Better
This course continues to improve. They have new ownership and it continues to bounce back. The tee boxes are in good shape, the greens are perfect, fast, and roll true. They would be even better if people would learn how to fix a ball mark. The fairways have grown back, and there are no more gigantic patches of brown grass across the fairways. There still are some patchy spots but they have reseeded this year to fix those brown spots and they should be gone next year. They have also removed dozens of sand traps which makes play a bit easier and probably saves them thousands on costs. Some bare spots and hard pan in the rough, but certain spots get really worn down by cart traffic. There were probably 12-15 people working on the course than playing it, and I got around in 3 1/2 hours. This is an amazing layout and big ball park (one of the few public courses around that is over 7000 from the back tees) It can give and it can take. You really need to play it a few times to know exactly where to hit the ball. The distance and the difficulty probably contribute to the lack of play, but they run so many specials this course is really affordable. Make the trip, it is worth it.
Finally a great course again
After two years of being in awful shape this course is back. Thank goodness too because the west side has no good public courses
Fabulous First round
We played Grey Hawk today, and it exceeded our high expectations on all fronts. Course in great shape, pro shop folks were pleasant, friendly, accommodating. Snack bar gals and restaurant staff were all of those traits, too. Course offers nice mix of distance, placement, greens rolled true and were maintained well. Even though we are close to an hour away in Akron, we'll be back soon.
Hard but great
The course doesn't offer any forgiveness with no flat fairways, but it is a beautiful course.
