Grey Hawk Golf Club
About
Grey Hawk Golf Club is a challenging but playable course that is a Cleveland area favorite. It brings resort-quality golf to a remote location in LaGrange that is seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The rolling landscape is the ideal terrain for links-style golf. The course demands accuracy with lightning fast greens surrounded by bunkers and be sure not to stray from the fairways or you'll almost definitely be left with an uneven lie. Unlike a typical links golf course, there are water hazards coming into play on several holes on this layout. The 11th hole features a tricky island green while the third hole has an equally challenging "island green" that is surrounded by sand. Grey Hawk Golf Club is a formidable but fair test with interesting and diverse hole designs.

Hidden Gem
This is a great golf course that I feel many people don't know about. It's a very challenging but fair course based on the multiple sets of tees (5) a player can choose to play based on their skill level. Many pretty, picturesque holes.
Pretty course but still needs work
I was curious to see how it was after not playing the past few years. After hearing the course was rebounding with new management I wanted to see for myself. The new management has made improvements but there is still always to go. Fairways were ok but still some patchy bare spots. The rough was rough. Good in spots and void of grass in others. The greens were good, rolled true. One of my favorite layouts in the area but this course still has a ways to go!
Great Hidden Gem
After reading countless reviews and looking a pictures of the course, i knew i had to check it out. There are obvious signs of neglect from the previous management, but you can tell the new ones are doing everything in the power to bring the course back up to tip top shape. But this did not affect my round in any way other than visual blemishes. Layout is absolutely gorgeous and challenging. As someone new to golf I had to really think about my choices as there is danger lurking around every corner. Lots of water and sand hazards so accuracy is a must. If you you suffer from a slice do not play here unless you have plenty of balls. Overall I was happy to find this course and cannot wait for the fall as I am sure the quality will have gone up dramatically from repairs.
Very nice course - worth giving a try!
Although the location isn't close to anything on the planet, this is a very nice track worth giving a try at least once! Very challenging but fair, and in very good condition.
It's getting better.
It was a nice course but the former management was not that good. There was a lot of bare spots on the fairways and even on the greens. The greens is fast and the fairways a lot much better after new management. $25 on Weekday and $35 on Weekend. Good course.
Great Deal
Great course and at a great price. New ownership seems to be taking pride in the course.
Grey Hawk 4/23/17
I've been playing Grey Hawk since it opened and I still enjoy every round. The course is in need of a little upkeep but it is spring in northern Ohio, so I suspect it will come along. I'll be there several more times this year. Enjoy!
True gem with lots of variety.
Course is visually challenging with knolls and undulations that can hide landing zones and play tricks on your eye. Water on many holes including a true island green and another island bunker green. Water hazards are offset by minimal tree trouble. Some greens are discolored with possible mold but does not affect putts. Don't let the rating fool you. This is one of the more challenging courses in the area but fun to play. Both length and accuracy are needed to score well. It will take guts to go for par 5 14th in two.
Average Vourse
Hole #9 was closed for major maintenance. They allowed you to play holes 1 thru 3 over again at the end of your round to make up for hole #9. Greens fee was $30 incl cart. Course was in fair condition. Good value for this time of year.
improved conditions
The greens are the best they have been in many years, fairways were aerated but playable. They have taken out sand traps and added drop areas to make the course much easier than original. I must say I liked it more difficult but much better for course revenue now.
Really nice...but
This course has a great layout. Not many trees so there's no leaves to be bothered with in the fall. Nice greens. Island par 3. Very friendly staff. Great clubhouse and restaurant. Only negative was there was a lot of burnt up spots in a few of the fairways.
In need of repairs but still enjoy playing
As so many mention, it needs work. Lots of work. I talked to the guy leaving his office in the clubhouse in parking lot afterwards and he said that the owner of this another another course had all their money sank into the other one so this fell into disarray through the son who managed at the other course. He's been relieved and they are about to spend some serious money to rebuilt this course. The layout is top notch. Lots of very memorable holes. The greens were excellent. Fast and smooth and just the right amount of contours without being obnoxious. Play here many times a year even though it isn't top quality (yet!).
Still a great track
I used to play this track when it was pristine.Even now its a great track that needs a little TLC.Still one of the best public courses in area.
Such amazing potential
This is one of the most fun layouts in northern Ohio in my opinion. The course offers several risk and reward holes. There is a lot to do before this is even playable course. The fairways and the rough are in terrible condition. I know that they've been having problems for a while now, I just hope there can be a fix to this beautiful course. The greens were beautiful and were rolling great. I know it will be a huge task, but if they can get the fairways in great shape again as well as the rough this will be one of the best courses to play in the area.
Nice golf course
Nice course. Many updates from last year. Looking forward to possibly playing again in the future.
Getting Better
Ok, this course is not in the double A+ condition it once was, but you can see signs everywhere they are working on it. The tee boxes and greens are in fantastic shape, just given the summer we've had there are some bare and cracked spots. This layout is still fantastic, the greens are just savage, the wind is always a factor, in fact I'd wish I'd play this course more often.
Even though it wasn't too crowded for a Saturday, it took 4 1/2 to play, but almost 3 of that was on the front- people that had no business being on the course. But I suppose you have to deal with that, this course is probably too difficult for 90% of golfers.
This is not a course for high handicappers or beginners- lots of elevation changes and forced carries.
Mislead
I have played this course several times over the years, but have not played in a couple years since the course seemed to be struggling to maintain the course. So before I booked yesterday, I called and asked the pro shop about the condition of the course. I was told "It is in the best shape it has been in, in years. The greens and fairways are amazing." This was far from the truth! He did advise of construction and I was fine with that, and the greens were decent and challenging, however the rest of the course was in beyond horrible condition. More than half of their fairways were dead and or burnt out. The course has bunkers everywhere, but only very little if any sand in them.
On a side note there was no ranger to be found which led to a 5 hour round. Course needs a lot of work, but be great
Understand that they are under new management
The course condition is my only issue here. Know about it before you plan to play here. Hole 9 is under construction because of burnt out areas from last year. They are in the process of repairing it. They have turned the par 4 number 9 into a par 3 temporarily until there is a fix to the hole.
Most of the course is under some type of repair, most notably the bunkers. A lot of the bunkers were GUR. The fairways had a lot of dirt and dead spots. More than any course I have seen. The greens were in fantastic shape, the staff was beyond friendly.
Negative reviews are for the CHEAP at heart
I recently played Grey Hawk the other day, and I'm not one to write reviews, but after I read some of the negative reviews on here I felt compelled to contest this great layout. I live in Medina County, and it is plain to see that anyone in the neighboring cities know how little rain we have gotten this year. Upon driving through my own development it is clear to see just how affecting our own lawns are during this 2016 drought, and I expected no less when I arrived at the golf course the other day. Of course you're going to see hard and dry areas on the golf course, come on! The changes they are making this year are great, it is very much apparent that the new management is putting a great deal of work into this great track. To cast any judgement otherwise concerning hot and dry season we've had is just plain ridiculous. Keep up the good work.
Grey Hawk
With the dry season we have had its tough to keep the course green. That being said Grey Hawk has been hit very hard. Hopefully they will get back to looking green again soon. Greens were fast and need some special care also.
