Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Australia (2022 #9)
Reviews
Course conditions match their sausage rolls - tough and hard to swallow!
Tee times were stacked and the round started late, which pretty much set the tone - slow play all day and a much longer round than it should’ve been - which is impressive considering we didn't get to play the 15th... but we'll get there shortly. It didn’t help that a member in the group ahead was playing instead of working in the pro shop, so there didn’t seem to be any urgency to keep things moving. The mix of carts and walkers just added to the crawl.
Course condition was below average. Patchy grass in areas that shouldn’t be, and several bunkers marked GUR. The 10th (and another on the front nine) has been shortened/downgraded to a par 3 - apparently for the past four years according to a member walking past - because neighbours kept getting peppered with golf balls. Bit of a shame, as I was told it used to be a solid hole.
Navigation around the course is a mess. There’s a 400m trek, including some off-track wandering between metal barricades, just to find the 14th - and that required help from a member. After that, there’s no signage to the 15th… which doesn’t even exist right now. It’s been completely torn up by machinery. The 16th looks like it was thrown together in a hurry - turf ripped up and a sloped tee box that leaves you hitting off a sideways lie.
The 17th shares a tee box with the 2nd (similar to 1 and 10), which just creates unnecessary interference between groups. Then there’s the path down from 17 - ridiculously steep. Properly unsafe for walkers unless you fancy an unplanned jog to the bottom.
To top it off, the driving range cuts across multiple holes, so if you miss the fairway, good luck figuring out which ball is yours. And the sausage roll from the canteen? Felt like it had been sitting there for two days - dry, tough, and tasted like warm cardboard.
The frustrating part is the course clearly has potential, but in its current state, it’s nowhere near worth the price of a round. If I were a paying member, I’d be pretty unhappy with what’s on offer right now.
Hidden gem
Didn't know the course existed until I saw it in GolfNow. Beautiful 18 hole course found near Mount Ommaney. Grounds have been well keeped. Challenging & fun. Deer apparently roam the grounds sometimes but didn't see anything the 2 times I played there. Very affordable place to play.
Beautiful course
Course was really nice. Couple of hole out of play but good to see a club spending money making the course better. Loved the elevated tee boxes and greens were really nice
Disappointment
Disappointment from the photo in Golfnow.
Course waa in ground repair 68 pars for men so many alteration for the course, full of par 3 holes not international corse as advertised!
No club house is opening after the game,
Club house shut after 5.30pm
At least club house open for the last players!
Never get back there again.
Slow very slow
Range was not available be ause no balls.
It took almost 3hours to play 9. Waiting every hole.
Temp tee boxes on 2 holes.
Not a bad layout but just really slow.
I paid for 18 and tee’d off at 12:30, i would not have finished before dark so I left the course before finishing 18.
Golf is fun
Sunday morning pre 8am tee time and it seemed everyone was playing at roughly the same pace. Course has some work happening so 2 shortened holes but all in good order and tidy. McLeod is a fun course to play and is always well kept whenever I've played there.
Love it
We really enjoy playing at McLeods. Challenging course with a lot of variety. Well maintained, great greens and horrible rough haha just the way it should be. We will be back!!
The course is splendid
But loads of players seems to be too much as we had to wait 5 to 8 minutes after each hole.
It looks like management of flights where to start from is very necessary.
