Eagle Springs Golf Course

About
Eagle Springs Golf Course (formerly known as DeFuniak Springs Country Club) is Walton County's oldest course and one of the panhandle area's most challenging. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills covered with pine forests and five spring-fed lakes, both of which come into play throughout the course. Sandy scrub brush and colorful flowering bushes accent the landscape even further. The towering trees lining the tight fairways are just some of the many challenging natural hazards. There are also 23 strategically placed sand traps throughout. The small, elevated greens are pitched and undulated in such a manner that would make even the best putters nervous. The rolling elevations also provide picturesque views from nearly every point on golf course. Eagle Springs Golf Course requires accuracy and careful course management, but the layout is still surprisingly accessible for a range of skill levels. As part of recent initiatives and upgrades to the property and management, kids under 15 play free.

A lot of construction going on
Some holes weren't playable because of construction.. Greens are aweful. They are very small and all elevated.
They were sprayed green to hide the blemishes. When we got there the lady in the pro shop said we had to have carts in before 5:00 whether it was still light out or not. The sun sets around 5:30 this time of year. There was no mention of that when you made your tee times however.
There are a lot of other nice courses you can play. They have a lot of work to do at this place, and I'm not talking just about the course itself.
Challenging course under construction will be above when complete a lot of work going on still everyone was friendly and helpful enjoyed the round recommend playing the course

This will be a much better course once the construction is complete. Keep working to get it done
Spur of the moment not super
Had to drive an hour, then they tell us carts had to be in by 4:30. Started at 1:20 should have plenty of time. But paired us up, took forever. Only got 16 holes in. Course is not in good shape. Greens are horrible. Spray with paint, which they did right in front of us, fumes were strong. This makes greens feel like fake turf. This may be normal for courses, but I never heard of it. Anyway I like the lay out. Had a good score and did enjoy my day. But want go back. They are making great changes but not there yet.
Awesome layout
It is a work in progress. Forward tees need a lot of work. The cart paths are a great improvement. Can’t wait to see the course when it is in really good condition- a awesome layout!
A work in orogress
The course gets better each time I play, but, of course , still needs a lot of work- especially the forward tees. Fairways getting better- can’t wait to see the finished results!
Improving Every Day!
Eagle Springs (formerly "DeFuniak Springs Country Club) is currently undergoing renovation. The improvement is easy to see with each visit. The course, which has always provided some challenges, is now becoming more beautiful. You'll enjoy your round.
Florida Historic Golf Trail
I got to play the course over my Christmas break while in the Destin area. I have been trying to play all the courses listed on the Florida historical golf trail. The courses on the trail are all historically relevant, and can be hit or miss. I went into this round with low expectations.
I can tell you I had so much fun playing this course. The atmosphere was friendly and casual. The layout of the course was super interesting, with “trick play” holes on the back 9. My senior dad, and my brother in law (who doesn’t golf often), played a little 3 person scramble to keep it non-serious.
The greens were very challenging and small, which is common for older style courses. They were in good shape and rolled evenly enough for us. The only course condition comment would be a little more tee box rotation to minimize wear, and the fairway on 10. I hit a bomb drive dead straight, but ultimately could not find the ball, as it plugged in very wet ground.
I love a more natural course that keeps the off fairway bit more natural, so I really liked this course. Overall just based on the setting, people, and good time I had, give this course super high marks.
Green elevations out of standard!
A few of the greens have way to much of an angle. Anything on the green rolls off from back to front. Disappointing!
Tee boxes not so good. Few bad spots in fairways. Greens are very challenging. They are raised and very fast.
Immaculate Conditioned Course
This course is a secret! The greens are truly the BEST I’ve seen in this area. The fairways were very well trimmed and professionally maintained. I highly recommended this course and will definitely be playing it again in the very near future.
Every place else was booked early
So I drove 38 miles to try Eagle Springs. Course in pretty rough shape. They DO have a nice cart path!
Tees and “fairways” need a lot of work. Traps are decent , a lot of new sand. Not too many.
Greens are mostly small, raised up a couple feet, from the era of building and maintaining courses with human or animal powered equipment.
They don’t look great but actually roll pretty consistent and are not very bumpy.
A quirky layout, a couple great holes, a few disasters.
Priced appropriately.
Great course with work in progress !
Eagle Springs is an awesome layout! Addition of cart paths is a great improvement. Anxious to see it when all of the county’s work is finished. Just need a place for lunch & drinks now!
Nice cart paths
You could tell they are trying to improve the course. Cart paths are all new. Course could use better yardage markings from the fairways and the tee boxes. Some tee boxes were just mostly weeds. Greens were decent. Hole 17 needs totally redone, fairway was mostly nonexistent for your tee shot. Overall $25 hot tee time was about right.
