Player golf course in great condition!
Very nice greens! Recommended for good players, it could be challenging if you are not driving the ball well.
True speed green
Their green were truly fast in excellent shape. Some blind holes makes playing longer then average course but green makes the game not boring.
Beautiful course, very fun
This was the 3rd time I've played HBH, and I have enjoyed it thoroughly each time. Challenging, links style layout with lots of blind shots and hilly terrain. The only problem were the greens. Ball marks were not repaired properly, or at all, and this made the greens bumpy and pockmarked. Pace of play was decent although we saw no rangers on the course. 60 dollars to play in the morning was a little steep, but overall it was a great day!!
Bang for Buck
Great course! Very challenging so bring extra balls. Carts with GPS are great and make it more fun! Greens and fairways well maintained
Solid challenge from tips
Played HBH on friend's recommendation as a paired single. First round was a Friday 6:30am time. I'm an 8.7 index. Played men's "back" tees, colored maroon, or, oddly, "red?" I'm fairly long off the tee with a tendency to spray it. Multiple blind shots, challenging, fast greens, fescue lined rough in landing areas, mean you must play course more than once to learn where to miss it to score. Quite well maintained. Went back on Sunday and played "Championship" tees. Quite a different and enjoyable experience. Holes I disliked from back tees became very good holes from champ tees, like 5, 13 & 16. Par 3 Hole 6 is still "squeezed in" to the property and a bit out of place. Pace is good (just under 4 on Friday am and 4:30 on Sunday at noon). Staff is really nice. I'm a public course player from NYC and I like Heron Glen, Neshanic Valley, Architects, Ballyowen, Wild Turkey and Ashbrook as my prefered challenging "players" courses that are not tricked up. I like a thoughtful course desgin that let' s you hit it, but calls for all clubs in the bag. High Bridge Hills is now in the top of my list and represents a nice value.
GREAT COURSE; PLAYING AGAIN
EXCELLENT COURSE WITH PLENTY OF UPHILL AND DOWNHILL TEE SHOTS WHICH I LOVE
Nice Course
We really had a great time on this course. The fairways and the greens were in great condition. The track was challenging but not super difficult. It offered some calculated shot makings and interesting approach shots. I cant wait to play here again.
Probably good on a week day...
But on Sunday afternoon we waited 25 minutes past our reservation to tee off and it was a clear case over massive overbooking. The round was very slow with nothing but "hit and giggle" to keep it from being a loss.
Good value for the money, friendly folks & great day of golf
Played HBH on Sunday with a few friends. There were just three in our group, each of us low single digit handicaps. We thought HBH offered a good value for the cost. Pace of play was great at about 4hrs & 15min for the round (we played 36 - the replay cost was $30). Course was well maintained: fairways, bunkers (heavy sand), greens. Some of the shorter holes had bumpy greens because they're easy to hit in regulation for most people. That said, the longer par 3's, par 4's and most par 5's had great greens because they aren't easily hit in regulation. The grass on a few tee boxes (tournament tee's) was thatchy - not a deal breaker by any means as the course was in overall very good shape and offered a nice pace of play.
wonder layout with each hole offering a unique challenge
The course was in great shape including the greens. Pace of play was perfect. The GPS in the cart allows more precise golf shots and the various tees allow equal skill optimization
High Bridge GC greens are rolling nicely
Tee time 5:56am. The course was in great shape. The greens were rolling nicely although they were slightly wet. They should remain that way as long as we all fix ball marks! Course over all in great shape. Staff was very friendly. First time playing this course this year, but I'll return a few more times before summer ends.
I question the slope ratings? This course seems tougher than 123 slope from the back, with 132 from the tips. Huge difference considering the tees aren't that far apart.
Could Be Nice, But It Isn't
This course has potential. There are some challenging holes, fescue and sand to catch your misses, and lots of blind shots with the elevation changes. But there are major fundamental problems:
- Tee boxes are very inconsistent and some have high grass on them while others are patchy.
- The GPS only shows distance to the green, not trouble like sand traps.
- If you are less than a 4some, you will sit and wait, and wait, and wait. Was playing as a 3 some, and the other 2 guys gave up after 4 holes, which took over an hour. The course has a very old clientele, and they operate at their pace.
- Greens are very pock-marked from approach shots, and some had cleat marks from folks dragging their feet. Made putting difficult at times.
- No sign of a ranger or cart girl on a weekday.
Bottom line, don't pay the full freight unless you don't mind playing 5-6+ hour rounds. It's a shame, because with a little management it could be a better course.
Extremely Challenging
Have to hit it straight here. If you're all over the course (like myself!) you're going to take a whole bunch of penalties. The bush and weeds on the course are just like a links course in Britain. You absolutely can't find your ball when you hit it into it. If you do, it's almost impossible to hit it out of there. Nonetheless, course is in really good shape. Very challenging. Not walkable in my opinion. Loved the par 3 eight hole, which is a long shot over a canyon. Overall, a great experience for me.
This is a great course
I have played at high bridge twice now, and I believe it is one of my favorite courses that I have had a chance to play. Well-maintained fairways and greens make for a fun and fair round of golf. To add to that, the staff is very friendly, the course is quite scenic, and I love the gps screens in the carts.
The course is a challenge and test your game. Good experience!!!
This course is a great challenge for your game. It pays to be accurate and think your way around the course. This is a good experience. I would definitely play again.
Excellent value for a good course
I like to play Highbridge Hills because of the variety of holes. If you're playing well, you can score. If you're not, you can be in big trouble. The greens roll well and are true, but there are far too many ball marks left by careless golfers. FIX YOUR BALL MARKS!
Good course worth a few rounds a year
This is a nice course I play a few times a year.....At peak rates I think it is overpriced at $80 but they do have GPS on all carts and the course is maintained well. There are some interesting holes a decent challege. Staff is a bit dismissive as if you are doing them a favor playing there. But I will probably keep playing a few times a year overall decent course.
Lack of preparation and service
I was very disappointed with my trip to High Bridge Hills. Slow play was terrible and I did not see one ranger on the course trying to help speed up play. Next, we had issues with our cart. It began to die as we finished the front 9. I went to the starter at the turn and he got me a new cart. This worked for roughly 4 holes and then the same problem-no power going up even the slightest slope. We had to push the cart up some hills just to keep playing. At the 14th green, we were near the clubhouse and attempted to get another cart. We had sent a message earlier (using the GPS system in cart) that we needed another cart but never heard from anyone. When we went to the car barn, we were told they didn't have any more carts. We still had 4 more holes to play and had been on the course for over four hours. I am not one to walk off a golf course but the slow play combined with the cart problems led me to leave the cart where it died, pick up my bag and walk back to the parking lot. I have no interest in returning to this course.
Too slow. Not enough spacing to allow for quicker pace. Also, not enough time to recharge the electric carts.
A 6 hour round is poor management. Electric cars died on at least 3 cars along the way. We watched as 2 guys pushed their cart out of the middle of the fairway, watched the group in front of us unload and carry their bags off of the 3rd hole! An abadoned cart in the middle of the cart path. That's embarrassing!
Variety of Challenges
I had a great time at High Bridge Hills Golf Club. There many interesting holes with great elevation changes and features. I definitely recommend not going in to the rough as it is difficult to find your ball in tall grass. I love the views and very calming atmosphere. I will definitely come back.
