Shameful!
I booked this course via golfnow and paid for it in advance. At no point in the process was I made aware that the course was being renovated. The greens were either being aerated or moved. It was impossible to use your putter. 3 of the 18 greens were playable. When I checked in and upgraded to a motor cart, none of the staff mentioned the condition of the course. Golf should have been discounted.
Poor experience
The starter was extremely rude. “Looks like John Madden” with a tan. I’ve played this course many times and HE decided to approach me on the back nine to tell me to “hurry up”. I’m an experience golfer and have never been talked to in this manner. Also to clear things up, there was no one behind me for me to be in a hurry so I was very confused.
Another Banger
Another great day for golf, the only hiccup is the greens are being aerated.
Best course in Queens
Nothing beats Douglaston Golf Course! The course is always well kept. The pace of play, on Labor Day, was shockingly quick for a holiday. No waiting at any of the holes and it made for a great day even as the temperature rose throughout.
Starter was very rude.
Seemed like the starter had an attitude and was pretty rude. My first time being there paid $57 to walk, checked in and he just shrug me off as you're too early like I don't know my time slot. After a few minutes I decided that I'll just pay $22 and ride instead, as I approached to inform him ill ride instead, his response was, "well, you got to go inside and pay for a cart" (which I had already done), I'm curious to know which golf course gives free golf carts. So just because of this guy it's the last time I'll visit that course.
Great City Course
This has to be one of the better City courses in New York. Obviously, you can’t expect a country club experience but the staff is always friendly and the course is usually in good shape. I played 18 in just under 4 hours and we Tee’d off at 4pm. Not too bad. Also, the greens were a little slow but on good days they can be pretty fast.. waiting maybe 2-3 holes but it moved quickly.
Impressed
I have not played this course in over a year but I was very impressed with its condition. Fairways and greens were in good condition but the tee boxes were spotty. The greens as I mentioned were in good condition but were thick and very slow. For a NYC course I would recommend and return.
Pace of Play
Everytime there was the group who didn't care about the pace of the play. It doesn't matter whether they are biggnner or not. But they must learn to play fast as their first lesson. Some people did practice swing 5-6 times in the course even though next team is waiting.
Need to advise them to play fast in consideration of other people's valuable time.
Thanks.
FOR an NYC COURSE...
Not all that bad. The pace is shears going to b slower when you have a par 64? Bc of the back to back par 3's, but I was impress with the improved condition of the course. Greens were super slow which was like putting on carpet which was disappointing but the overall conditions were B-B+ & for a nyc course that is great. The tee boxes are less to be desired for if there was grass it was too long. The starter did tell me to go solo (the 3 others didn't show up on time), but I told him that I'm going to be waiting anyway so I'll wait & that he should never let a single out on a short course like this. That goes for all nyc clubs... DONT LET SINGLES & EVEN DOUBLES OUT! Every group should be 3-4 people bc that's what causes the slowdown, especially on these shorter nyc courses. The same goes for Forest Park, Kissena & Van Cortland. If the starters did thus & told players to fix their marks on the greens you would be educating players about how the game SHOULD be played.
