My favorite hole ! Photo submitted by Golfworld on 10/28/2019
Good course in good shape
This course is pretty much always in good shape have had a few problems here in the past but nothing to sway my vote of a 4 star. I would definitely recommend it.
Great Course/Slow Day
I’ve played Mill Pond many times and it is a great course.
Yesterday however the pace of play was slooooow!
Waited on every single hole, and it took nearly five hour to complete the round.
The starter stated that he was letting groups out about every ten minute allowing each group sufficient time, unfortunately that theory didn’t prove effective.
Golf is supposed to be a gentleman’s game and proper etiquette and respect is every golfers responsibility, however there were groups ahead of us taking fifteen minutes plus looking for lost balls and standing around waiting for the green to clear at distances only professionals could reach!
A few actively engaged course rangers on a busy day like yesterday to keep everyone moving along is my only recommendation.
Otherwise I would definitely return to Mill Pond.
Mill pond
Great layout friendly staff played 18 in under 4hrs on a Friday tee time @ 10:30am greens rolled true worth the trip from the city
Nice Day
Very slow play,Large gaps on course ,Ranger should tell players to let people through
Scoring opportunities
If you stay out of the fescue, which is very thick, you can shoot a good score. Adjacent fairways keeps errant shots in play. Course layout is great. Good variety of holes. Practice facilities and staff are great.
Excellent Value
It moved ahead of Willow Creek as my favorite public course in Suffolk County. Better Condition, Better Price, Better pace of play.
Great round of golf
For $40 (Hot Deal) , this course was worth it. Round was less than 4 hours. Rangers , although not needed on day I played, were driving around, rather than waiting for a problem. Great experience and was well the money, especially at &40.
Longest Round Ever
Played this course Saturday. 6/30/18. Our tee time was at 1:30, we tee'd off 25 minutes late. A large group went out right in front of us. It took OVER 3 HOURS to get through the front 9. The rangers didn't seem to be doing much to get the groups in front of us moving any faster. They were playing from the blues and barely reaching the fairway and seemed to be out there more to drink than golf. We walked off after 9. Other than that the course is in pretty good shape and I do enjoy the layout, but the pace of play was unbearable.
Good Course - Needs some Modification
This was the first time I have played Mill Pond in a little over a year. I have played here many times before. The course layout is very good with some elevated T-boxes and some well protected greens. The greens were the best I have ever seen on this course and the fairways were also very good. Two modifications would greatly help the pace of play which is usually pretty slow here. One would be to cut back on all the high grass. It looks like they have been doing this a little but too much time i spent by players looking for balls that could be found in a normal type rough. This frustrates many players. Second suggestions is open up the 11th hole to golf carts. Why it is roped off for the entire fairway is beyond me. There is always a back up here since every player needs to walk and carry several clubs out to their second shot and then walk back to the roped off cart path to get to the green. Older or physically challenged players take an inordinate amount of time to complete this hole. I hope this is taken into consideration by the course director.
It was the first time course, but it was the worst. It took 2 hours to finish the 5th hole.
I will not come back again.
Great experience
Great conditions, staff was spot on and very attentive. Will be back
Great Layout
Always love to play this course. Greens are very slow but Teebox and fairways are well groomed.
Golf
We didnt even tee off. When I was in the club house paying, the lady called to the ranger on the radio to go out to one of the holes and tell some golfers to move it along. I should have known then, that it was not going to go well. Tee times were running 45 minutes behind schedule. There were no golf carts in sight. We decided not to play. The staff in the pro shop was very helpful in refunding our money. Ill be back, hopefully we can play next time.
mill pond...with wind!
i had to privilege of playing mill pond the thursday morning the us open started out at shinnecock, well the same wind that was out there was howling here at mill pond, the course was in great shape but the wind does bring some of the hay into play and there's not much the fantastic staff can do about that, but they are there for all your other needs. with the exception of a slow foursome in front of us, which the ranger did have speed up the send nine, everything was great, can't wait to sink my teeth into this course again soon, keep up the good work!
