Mill Pond Golf Course

Mill Pond is a good place to play. Unfortunately this last round was beset with issues. We started a half hour late. When asked we were told there were 4 groups scheduled for 7 am -7:30 starts all came at 7:30. Rather than honor the times assigned they delayed everyone on the tee sheet. They accommodated when they should have started them on the third hole so times after were not held up. Compounding this the round moved well for most of the front but when reaching the back it was clear they two holes were open on front of a really slow group. 2 hr front became 2:45 back.

Conditions were incredibly poor because of lack of water. Fairways are all burned out. Two weeks ago they were excellent. I hope they fix the irrigation quickly otherwise wait till next year.

Pace was terribly slow. Ranger actually asked us to pick up the pace and we were waiting 5-10 minutes on every shot for the group in front of us- comical!

Grill was closed- had zero access to any food or beverage

Doors were locked to get back inside after 3 pm

Had to spend $120 to door dash four sandwiches to the course and the dasher had a hard time getting in because they closed and locked the front gate.

Will never come back here

Mill Pond is a fun and interesting layout in central Suffolk County. Aside from getting off ten minutes late the round really was paced beautifully. Only criticism I have was sand trap maintenance. Too many rocks and mostly they were unraked. Greens rolled great once the morning dew was gone.

The course is open and if you stay our of trouble you can score

Fun course. I play regularly. Great staff. Brought my friends out to play, 8 of us. They all enjoyed the course.

Decent track for the right price.

The Good- Fairways are wide open and in great shape. The Greens were surprisingly in very good condition. They keep them firm and fast but for a public course, very good.

The bad- . bunkers are a joke and liability. They are full pebbles with your golf ball size rocks hiding underneath. They are a joke and we instituted a free drop due to 2 wedges getting the faces ripped apart. Pace of play is also a joke. Almost 5 hours on a weekends morning. There was no rain or weather issues just other players who think the course is theirs and no one enforces a pace of play.

Playing here since it was 3 nines and while the course/service etc hasn't gotten worse it definitely hasn't gotten better. Give us a Marshall and some sand please!

T off was 7:39 , the only issue we had first 5 holes the greens were very wet., besides that very nice course definitely would recommend.

I’ve spoken about Mill Pond to other golfers so often that it feels like I’ve already reviewed it. It’s a great place to play, especially during the week. I’ve heard some conflicting stories about slow play on the weekends, but I believe that’s everywhere. It was a Monday, at 10:21am and we waited for the group in front of us to make it to the 1st green and we teed off. After some struggles on the first hole, we were ready to hit to the 2nd and the group ahead was finishing up. After that, we never saw them again and we never saw anyone behind us. We even managed to stop for hotdogs and a beer and they never caught us. The layout is nice and challenging. Greens, Bunkers, Fairways and Rough were in great shape. Stay out of the fescue - potentially ticks are in there and you’re likely not going to find your ball. Staff are all very engaging and accommodating. Lessons from their Pro, MikeZ is highly recommended. He’s already bettered my game in 2 lessons, so far. I’ve played here for the past 3 Mondays and I’ve enjoyed it each time. I’ll be back!

Very disappointed! First of all the day was overcast and I arrived early for an 11:51 tee time. The starter sent me out about 11:20, with another single. The weather reports all said it would not rain until about 4 pm. Well, the rain started while we were on the third hole. We sat in our carts for extended periods waiting out the rain. We played the fourth and waited out another round of rain. We played the fifth, teed off the sixth and were then called off the course. When I got back to the pro shop there was a sign that said “No Rain Checks”, which was not there when I checked in. Lost a greens fee for less than 1/3 of a round. I will not give this company any more money. Such horrible customer relations. I spent money on lessons and many hours at their driving range, but I’m done with them.

Played on a Friday afternoon (3:30)- conditions were great . Played like a true links course. Great shape for a muni. One of the true public links courses left in Suffolk County.
