great course
this is a challenging well set up course that offers great day of golf.
grear track.
Course was in good shape. Greens had been aerated two weeks prior so they had come back fairly full by now. We were behind a slow foresome that didn't have enough etiquette to allow us to play through causing our round to run almost 5 hours. I will definitely go back and play here again. Its challenging enough but stay out of the fescue! First time playing here i made 3 birdies en route to a 78 with 2 lost ball penalties. In the words of Arnold, " I'll be back".
Very nice course with some really cool holes
Fairways were very nice, gotta stay out of the rough. Greens were aerated too early and holes were way to big. Needs to be sanded after aerating. Terrible putting condition for greens that wre punched on August 19th. Nice staff in Pro Shor, Resturaunt and cart guys. Will play again when greens grow in.
other then the greens that were aerated, we enjoyed the course and will play their again
did not know the greens were aerated until we got there, so putting was difficult. Other then that, a nicely maintained and landscaped course
Tall Grass could be great but it is NOT!
Tall Grass has a good layout but is in atrocious shape. Tee boxes are mostly dirt. Starter was at best crabby. We received no warning by the cashier that the course was being aerated!!!! Totally not worth the drive or $$$$. Sad to see a good layout go to waste because of poor course management. I only recommend this course for a beginner just looking to practice and its a stretch at that.
Nasty starter and better grass on your local high school football field
I have to say after reading the TallGrass web site (which stated they were the #2 course on long island, ny) i was excited to try it out. I was immediately disappointed. first, they made no mention of green aeration on golf now or the website and i traveled 2 hours from manhattan to play. When i glanced at the condition of the first tee box.... i knew we were in real trouble. The course is in poor shape generally and the starter was quite nasty. The pro shop made no effort to let us know the course was in need of work and being aerated so we paid unknowingly. There was a small sign to be fair which we noticed on the way out. But a heads up would have been classy in my opinion. The layout of the course is quite nice and could be great if the conditions were better. when i say bad i means worse than your local par 3 muni in august.
Used to be better .
Played here a few years ago and it was a first class experience. This time , not really. The course itself is in fabulous shape except for the lack of any visible yardage markers.
There is no starter so you just figure it out for yourself. A course Ranger would be a welcome addition. We played behind one of the most inconsiderate and exceptionally slow playing groups I have ever had the displeasure of following on a golf course.
Their lack of basic golf etiquette really affected the enjoyment of our round.
Too bad there isn't a pre round quiz on basic golf manners. If you don't pass you don't play.
I sure hope they " fix" this wonderful golf facility and make it the enjoyable place to play that I remember.
A little too wide open for me.
It was very, very hot and a course with no trees wasn't the best choice for such a hot day. Pace of play was very slow, waited on every tee. Interesting but not my preference.
Tallgrass but very Sandy
I have played Tallgrass over the last 5 years. Unfortunately, the course has slipped in its conditioning.
For this last round, the course was clearly aerated and we were charged full price. Nor were we told the course was aerated.
The tee boxes were not in great shape and the greens were extremely sandy to the point of almost unplayable.
It is a shame because the course layout is a true links type layout with fescue and the ability to play the ball down onto the greens. A course type not readily available on LI. The wind does come into play and the wind does usually blow.
The 5th hole, once a great short par 4, has now been shortened due to local resident complaints into a 190 yard par 3 to a green which will not hold long iron to hybrid shots.
The course has gone from a once a month play to maybe a once a year play. Also, tee times do not start until 7am even when sun up is a 5am during certain months of the year. I guess Tallgrass has not embraced the PlayFast / Play Early programs. You have to assume Tallgrass can afford to leave those early tee time revenues out there.
I wish Tallgrass well and hope they return to what they once were.
This course is challenging but fair.
Has many picturesque holes. Each hole has different characteristics. Must keep drives in fairway or risk being in the fescue. Only complaint is that there are not enough yardage markers out on the course and the carts do not have GPS.
Great course at a great price!
Well maintained, friendly staff, fun and challenging course!
The grass is tall
Fun course with some challenging holes. Staying out of the rough is the key. There are areas where you will not find your ball. After several walks in the tall stuff I had no tics. They must have sprayed. Nice greens! Not terribly fast, but they roll true.
A true links course.
A must play, great staff, excellent track. Super club house for a beer and burger.
Great greens. Very fast
Great course with great greens . Finally moved into club house.
Should have a lower price at 3:00
Great condition, great layout
One of the nicest public courses I have ever played. Mint condition. Played on a saturday and had no one in front of us or in back.
Nice Links-Style Course
The course is nice, well maintained. Played July 5th in 90 degree heat. I counted two trees on the entire course, so there was absolutely no shade. There are a few water coolers throughout, but most were basically empty the day I played, Bring sunscreen and plenty of water.
The course's name tells it all.
If you can hit 'em straight, you have a great chance of scoring here. The width of most of the fairways are fair, but after only about 10 yards of rough in most cases, the knee-high fescue comes into play. That said, much of the fescue is sparse enough that you have a chance of finding your ball if you spray it. The greens were fast and in great shape along with the fairways. I played from the white tees (about 6100 yards) and there was a lot of wind - definitely affected play - with an equal amount of cross, in your face and helping winds. I am about a 13 handicap, had a great scramble day and shot 82. Only knock for the day was a lack of a starter present at my tee time. A number of twosomes that should have been paired up went out and a really slow 4some ahead of us slowed the pace dramatically. A call to the pro shop yielded no relief. Would definitely play the course again, but from the blue tees for the best challenge.
Challenging green approaches
Pace of play needs to sped up. Rough is tough to get out of.

Good course
Would play there again loved the layout greens were consistent
AERATION UNDER WAY
Received a highly discounted time on Golf Now. There was no mention of aeration in process on their website. Arrived early and there was no one on golf course. Parking had less than 10 cars in it. Was told by starter that Back 9 was closed for aeration, but could play front 9 as many times as I liked. That was fine as I was looking for a practice opportunity. Went out by myself since there was no one around. There was a twosome a hole and half ahead and no one behind. Played two balls the first time around. Then paired up with two other gentlemen. Played till 4 and place was empty. It was a strange but good day. Course was in good condition though greens were sandy.
