Aeration
The front 9 was closed for aeration. Had to play the back 9 twice, which was aerated the day before. They did give $5.00 off the round and a small bucket of range balls. Other than the fairways and greens being aerated the tee boxes were in pretty bad shape. I like this course and chalk it up to bad timing on my part. 19th hole is very nice. I would play again because I like the layout, I just hope it he course is in better condition.
Horrible pace of play and course conditions
Pace of play was terrible and even talking to both groups with no avail, no one on staff to talk with to try and fix issues, course was in kind of bad condition but still well enough to play. But standing on a tee box for 25+ minutes was atrocious.
Beware!
The tee boxes and greens are in good shape given the amount of play this course gets. The amenities are great and decent course layout. However, the fairways are really struggling.
Pace of play was awful on Aug 30th. Took just shy of 5 hours but could have been worse if we didn’t ask the pro shop to do something. That was after we said something to the ranger on hole 4 and he did nothing.
BEWARE: Apparently the clubhouse is aware that there is large “ledge” under some of their sand traps and not enough sand to cover it. I learned this when I took a chunk out of my wedge. There is no warning signs for this in those areas so be aware of this. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone hasn’t been seriously hurt with a similar shot. I was lucky.
Challenging
First time playing course. I saw it on TV show Inside Golf. True links course. A lot of blind shots. A few short par 4's for risk and reward. Bunkers in just the right spots. Enjoyed the round, would play again.
Tough summer..
Not in spectacular shape right now, but that goes for most courses
Ripped off by staff
Played multiple times with senior discount. Pro charged $84 for 2:50 tee time. $64 previous times I played. Maybe he was deaf but I didn’t want to argue with him so I just paid the 84
Unexpected Letdown
I had played this course numerous times around 10 years as my home course for the college golf team. The course back then was in great shape and I was looking forward to enjoying that great course again. Unfortunately it was a bit of a letdown. Most tee boxes were in bad shape, many areas of dead grass, poor bunker conditions, and the greens weren’t like they used to be. Granted, it has been a hot summer and pretty dry so that may have had something to do with it, but with the reputation this course has in the past I feel like they should have been able to use their resources to keep it nice over the years. To me, the price is too high for the condition the course is currently in.
Wow. What happened?
Makefield Highland was one of my favorite courses in the area. I love the layout and for $40, it seemed like a terrific bargain, but I’ve never seen the course like this. I’ve played maybe 40 rounds there and sometimes the greens are beat up because people don’t like to fix ball marks here for some reason, but the tee boxes and fairways were a hot mess. I understand the weather has been a challenge for golf course attendants, but we’ve had inconsistent weather in the past and it’s never been this bad. It typically plays like a semiprivate though it’s a muni, but on this afternoon, it was every bit a $40 muni so for the cost, I’d say go for it. But if you know the course, it’s never looked like it does right now.
Beautiful place to play golf
The course was well kept and really made for an exciting day
Great course definitely recommend playing this course
Nice place
People need to rake bunkers, fill in divots and repair ball marks! The course was in good shape but the tee boxes were not so good. Looked like they were trying to grow them in Maybe because of the lack of rain lately
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
This course is legitimately the worst course I’ve ever played. Since it’s located in Yardley, my expectations were a little higher. I was insanely disappointed!! Absolutely terrible conditions!! The fairways had patchy grass (not sure if you could really call it grass), tee boxes not maintained, bunkers make of dirt and rocks. I did not want to use my clubs for fear of ruining them. I think the grass in my backyard is nicer than this course. Pulled my ball out of a bunker, I believe on hole 9, because there was no way I was going to hit my sand wedge into hard packed dirt. On hole 8, a fox came out on the course and stole my ball. If you’re in the area looking for a course, go to The Bucks Club. It’s the same price and a much better experience.
Course is in Rough Shape
I played this course in early June and the course was in the best shape tee to free that I’ve seen it in the 20 years I’ve played it. Fast forward six weeks and the course conditions have significantly deteriorated. I’ll start with the good. The greens we’re in very good shape. The best they’ve ever been. It seems like they got a considerable amount of the poa annua out of the greens. This helps during the peak of summer when poa struggles to survive the heat. The turf on the greens was in excellent shape. Very healthy and the ball rolled true. The bunkers that I was in were in good shape for the most part. We did have some heavy rains the couple of days before so a few washouts and they had not been raked. The rest of the course was in terrible shape. Weeds were everywhere in the fairways, rough and tees. Some fairways were do bare, there was no grass to be found. Lies in the fairway were sketchy at best and our group agreed to roll the ball in the fairway to find grass. Makefield charges more than most in this area and it’s definitely not worth it now. I won’t be back until the fall to give it another shot. The staff is very friendly especially Emily, the bartender. We had the wings and nachos. I’d pass on both of those for the price. Neither were good. The $5 Kona drafts are a good deal.
Decent value
I played this course before COVID and it was a beautiful track in excellent shape. The pace of play was great and the value was unreal. Played here for the first time in 4 years and it’s unrecognizable. Lots of burnt out patches on fairways, fringes, etc. Pace of play was 5 hours on a Friday morning. The value is still decent as this place is one of the few in the area that is less than $100 but I was really disappointed.
Casual golfer
Lauren the manager, and Melissa from behind the bar are absolutely wonderful.
