Pittsburgh National Golf Club
About
Formerly known as Deer Run, Pittsburgh National Golf Club has undergone major renovations since management has changed hands over the years, including complete reconditioning of the greens and the addition of 60 new renovated bunkers. The championship golf course that exists today is more challenging than the original though it has retained the same playability. With no blind shots to be found and wide fairways that are player-friendly, the course is inviting to beginners and also offers a casual but interesting round for more advanced players. During the renovation, the club also added a practice facility that includes a grass driving range with heated hitting stalls for year-round use, it is one of the only public grass ranges in the Greater Pittsburgh area. There is also a putting green and chipping area with sand bunkers.

good but getting shaggy
I really like this golf course. Four sets of tees so you can make it as long as you want. The course is well designed(no stupid holes). Conditions were good but not great. Some of the rough areas were looking a little shaggy and unkempt. It was still a great value.
Well maintained and interesting
I love this course. Elevation changes, nice layout, and great maintenance for a public course.
I was greeted with a cart when I parked and got a great rate on Golf Now. I think the usual $55 is a bit pricey.
My only grip would be pace of play concerns. I've been golfing alone lately and the pressure to group with unknown strangers on a fairly wide open Thursday afternoon was a bit obnoxious.
I will however always return when I can get a great GN rate.
The fairways and greens were in good shape.
I like this course because unlike most courses in Western PA, there are some holes where you can have a flat lie. The greens were in excellent condition and the rough was very forgiving, the bunkers could use some work. The pace of play was slow but I attribute that to the holiday weekend. I can't wait to play it again.
Nice layout
Pace of play was extremely slow and there was no ranger the entire 18 holes. When we checked in there were 4 employees in the club house yet no one on the course! Group in front of us had no course etiquette....driving on the par 3's, driving up to the fringe of the greens, not raking bunkers, etc... But with no ranger on the course, they did as they wished. Luckily the course was dry or the course would have been damaged. Would not recommend playing here on weekends. Course was busy and yet very little service. The cart service personnel were very nice.
Nice course
Challenging but fun. A little high in terms of price but very well kept and very scenic.
Hey ranger beat it
It was cool until we made the turn ,they almost let two foursomes out in front of us who didn't play the front nine and then after that the Ranger hover over us and it wasn't cold
Great layout getting better
Still need to work on tee boxes and traps greens are much improved from past seasons
nice course need better customer service
Greens always run true and its a nice layout they could stand to be less rude to paying customers there were 2 out of 7 employees i encountered who were pleasant
Average
The course has some beautiful views looking down on fairways from elevated tee boxes. The Fairways are a little rough from the winter but should be coming in nicely in the next couple weeks. Purchased tee times through GolfNow not knowing it didn't include cart fees, the employee working the counter was going to charge us another $6 each ($24 foursome) to cover the additional charge, but a second employee insisted that we each pay another $16.50 ($66 foursome) which made our online price identical to the normal weekend rates. Won't be going back unless a friend insists on it, there are equally as nice and challenging courses for less money.
greens in nice shape
The greens were in great shape for being this early in the year and the course was a little wet from our recent weather but overall played very well. Some of the par 3's are long from the blue tees, as well as some of the approach shots when its wet.
Be careful when booking as some of the tee times available are for walking.
Course has come a long way!
The overall conditions of the course has come a long way. In years past the up keep has gone down hill, but it looks like the new ownership is doing the right things to keep and get the course in top shape. I will definitely play the course a great deal more this year.
course in good shape this year
the grounds staff has done a great job since last year
the greens and bunkers were very playable even at this time of year
Love the layout of this course
This course has a great layout. This was my second time playing it, it is a very fair course for the average golfer. The course was in average shape with the greens being in very good shape, holding well. Play was slow both times that I played, no attention paid to pace of play. Staff is friendly and no other complaints.
Decent course
Always in decent condition. Food From restaurant is meh. Some really nice holes out there
Fairways very bad.
Looks like a lot of skunk damage on the fairways. Had to use cartpath even when it didn't seem necessary. Course had some beautiful holes, and the greens were very good.
Not worth the money
This course is in very poor condition, the fairways are torn up with many many bare spots. The greens were in fair to good condition but extremely hard, could not hold any shots. We got the impression that this course is on it's way out. For the price they charge and the condition it is in we will not be back.
could be better
Great value with GoldNow pricing. Would not pay asking rate for this course. Nice layout, but cart parts are a mess, and fairways need work as well. Very slow play for a Tuesday afternoon in September. Waiting on every hole, and quit after 14. With more attention to course management, this could be a great course. No better than average at this time
Well run business
The staff was great from the start to our post round finish. The course was ok. But for the price it was a steal

Excellent golf course, beautiful layout would like to play again soon. I would recommend a golf cart for most golfers.
This course has a great layout
Having played as a member at Deer Run for many years from its conception the course has never been in great condition and from what I saw yesterday it is in poorer condition than when I played there as a menber. The tee boxes were in lousy shape and much to small, alot of crabgrass throughout the course and there was alot of turf ripped up by skunks looking for grubs. It was pretty clear that an application for grubs was not put down in order to conserve money. The new owners did a very nice job remodeling the clubhouse but it would have been much nicer to see that money being put into the golf course. The course is the reason that we all would go there. It is however a wonderful layout except for number 13, but that was a design problem and in my opinion that this hole would be much better served as an uphill par 3 from the ladies tees and of course a shorter teeing area for women.
