Pittsburgh National Golf Club
About
Formerly known as Deer Run, Pittsburgh National Golf Club has undergone major renovations since management has changed hands over the years, including complete reconditioning of the greens and the addition of 60 new renovated bunkers. The championship golf course that exists today is more challenging than the original though it has retained the same playability. With no blind shots to be found and wide fairways that are player-friendly, the course is inviting to beginners and also offers a casual but interesting round for more advanced players. During the renovation, the club also added a practice facility that includes a grass driving range with heated hitting stalls for year-round use, it is one of the only public grass ranges in the Greater Pittsburgh area. There is also a putting green and chipping area with sand bunkers.

Fall Golf
Fairways and greens in great shape. Rough and areas around traps need cut.
Must Play, Will Be Back
Played on a Sunday with a hot deal for $32. 2nd time here. Excellent value. Nice layout with amazing undulation changes. Course is a ton of fun to play from the professional tees. Greens ran nicely. Pro, starter, and bar staff were helpful and friendly.
Great day, beautiful views, quick round.
Course has really improved since last year. Fairways, greens were in excellent shape. T boxes need some leveling and aeration. Hard to push the tees into the ground.
Great Layout, poor condition
One of the best layouts in western Pa.
bunkers were terrible
Greens were decent but slow
Fairways were decent but spotty
Cart paths were bad
Kitchen closed
much better than before.
Nice course layout. Better maintenance than before.
Love this course
Tee boxes need attention but everything else is good
PGH Natioanl
I've always liked the layout but the course has deteriorated in most every respect over the last several years. Tees were rough, missing grass, and some unmowed. Some fairways has lots of bare spots. Greens were in fair to poor condition and most traps were rocky and needed sand. The changes to 10 & 11 are good, but work on both is incomplete. Lots of trash on the ground around garage cans & the main bath had a unflushed toilet mess all day. I wouldn't rush back to play this course with so many other better courses in the north suburbs.
Love the course
Each hole different with its own challenges. Greens are in great shape.
All Downhill
I wish I would have trusted reviews! But sadly, I read them after booking. This course was nice at one time. Now, it looks like a "money grab" for the owners. The excuse for worst fairways ever was, "we had a really bad winter". Meamwhile, about 30 minutes away is Stoughton Acres golf course whose weather would be the same yet their fairways, greens and tee boxes didnt look like they had been repeatedly bombed by SCUD missles. This now in contention for worst course in PA. Barely a decent place to ter the ball, fairways were average about 50% grass, 50% mud or rocks. Greens were green but not sure what all is growing on them.. (i think i spotted some seaweed)
The staff pretty much seemed like the were on Prozac. Oh, and driving range was once again CLOSED.
MIGHT be worth $15 if they threw in a few hot dogs (fresh ones, not the week old ones they seemed to have) and tossed in a free box of PRO V1's!
Greens super fast
Greens in great shape. Tee boxes still not grown in. Fairways are filling in nicely still bare spots.
Tee boxes
The only thing keeping this course from being a top course in the area is the tee boxes. Many had little grass and i often felt like i was standing in a crater when teeing off
Disappointing
As a former member of Deer Run/Pittsburgh National, I was looking forward to playing my old home course. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Not only have they ruined one of the best layouts in W.PA by attempting to renovate holes 10, 11 and 14. (It has been 2+ years and they are still moving dirt.) The overall conditions are a joke. Tees, bunkers, fairways, greens, cart paths, restrooms are all substandard. I know it was March, but when comparing it to the conditions other courses that have opened, Pittsburgh National is at the bottom. Don’t waste your time or money.
