Broadlands Golf Club

About
Broadlands Golf Club in North Prairie is one of the most popular public golf courses in the Milwaukee area and also one of southeastern Wisconsin's best values. With a wide-open, virtually treeless landscape, the course has a traditional links design. It offers plenty of challenges but it is also not overly difficult for high handicappers. Water comes into play on a few holes, mostly on the front nine. Emphasis is placed on proper club selection, especially for the finishing hole, a downhill par 3 with bunkers and native grasses framing the two-tiered green. It is an especially tough hole on a windy day. The golf course is versatile and accommodates a wide range of skill levels. Its playability has made it a popular host for amateur tournaments and outings. Broadlands Golf Club also has a driving range for golfers to use.

Nice variety in great shape
We are half way through the golf season in Wisconsin and the Broadlands is in great shape for the lack of rain we have seen in the area.
Looking forward to playing again before the season ends.
Great course, constantly over-scheduled
This course is relatively close to my home and I've played it quite a few times over the course of many years. It's a very well maintained course and is reasonably priced. The staff has always been friendly and almost everything about this course is nice. The problem I have, and the reason I rarely golf there, is that they consistently overschedule tee times -- making pace of play horrific.
As an example, I had a 3:24pm team time. It was a Saturday with very nice weather, so it's expectedly busy. However, my twosome didn't tee off until almost 3:40pm. A bad sign to start. Thankfully, all of the golfers ahead of us tried to keep up their pace and were very thoughtful about not searching too long for balls, getting off the greens quickly. Nevertheless, we waited on every tee for the group ahead to tee off. This was in no way their fault because they were waiting for the group ahead of them, etc. Even with this, it took just under 2.5 hours to play 9 which is pretty slow but somewhat expected for a nice weekend..
When we made the turn, things went from slow to unplayable. We waited at least 15 minutes on every tee. Ultimately, we only got in 4 holes of the back 9 before giving up. To play 14 holes, it took over 4 hours. There was a good chance we wouldn't complete before sunset (8:30pm) despite starting 5 hours before sunset. When we gave up, there were 3 groups backed up on one tee (a par 4 which preceeded a par 5, so no excuse). Looking at the tees ahead of us, there were 3 groups on each hole there as well. This is after watching at least 2 different groups give up before us and head back to the clubhouse. It's just not possible to maintain any kind of tempo when you have to wait for 2 foursomes to tee off before you can even step on the tee.
Again, from what I saw, every group ahead was playing ready-golf. This was not one slow group holding everyone up, it was complete overscheduling. The same thing happened the last time I played this course (which was last year) and it's why I haven't played it in a year despite golfing almost weekly. Doing the math, you can see the problem -- if we assume the average 4 some will take 12-15 minutes per hole (standard pace of play), and they are scheduling tee times every 6 minutes, that would require that there over 2-2.5 groups on every hole. There is no way to fit over 2 groups on a par 4 and ANY slowness by ANY group would make it impossible.
To repeat, everything about this course is nice except the scheduling, which ends up overshadowing everything else, which is unfortunate. I would gladly pay $10-20 more per round if they spaced out the tee times by 2-4 more minutes.
Slow pace 5hr rounds
Slow play all day. Staff not friendly to non members or regulars.
Good challenge
Keep it the fairway and with good putting, you'll score well. Although it appears spacious, go off track and bogeys are good. 2nd time I've played the course and I'll be back.
It's a tough course
First off, this is a great place. The beverage cart ladies are very friendly and overwhelmingly beautiful. The course itself is challenging, swallowed up a few of my golf balls but the bev cart ladies made up for that.
Pace slow
Pace is always slow, but if you can put up with that the course is fun. Need to cut the greens more often and knock the rough down a bit, but it’s in good condition for July. 10 min tee times might help the pace, instead of 8 mins.
Best bunkers
Today I played my 17th different course of the year and Broadlands had the best manicured, and playable bunker conditions. I’m not saying they were easy, you still were penalized if you miss hit the shot, but also rewarded for a properly played one.
I thought with it being so dry the course would be in rough shape but I was pleasantly surprised. Fun to play on grass and the greens were in great shape
First time here
Course layout and conditions were really good. Starter did good seperating groups by tee times but pace slowed quickly a few holes in. I blame the heat...90+ degrees...I would definitely watch for deals on some of the golf apps and recommend playing this course.
