Rough shape
Tons of sand traps were unplayable. Greens were chewed a bit. Pace of play really slowed down on all par 3s. I will say the driving range here is awesome but the course is average at best.
at least the weather was perfect
As others had warned, the pace of play was slow, 5 hours and the greens looked like a scene from a world war II movie.
Hoped for Better
The course itself is in great condition, which is appreciated. However, at $70 for a Sunday morning round, I did not find the value to be justified—especially when there are other nearby courses in similar condition at more reasonable rates.
The primary reason for my 3-star rating is the overall experience. We booked an early tee time as a foursome, but were placed directly behind several threesomes participating in a league. This was not communicated to us at the time of booking, and had we known, we would have chosen a different time.
During play, we eventually played through, which unfortunately led to unpleasant interactions with the other players, including being cursed at, followed by a ranger asking us to leave. Later, when I went into the clubhouse, management questioned why we skipped ahead. My explanation was that we had been waiting 7–10 minutes on each tee box. The response I received was that a 4.5-hour round is considered within pace of play—though in my opinion, that standard seems more fitting for a foursome, not for multiple threesomes ahead.
Overall, while the course conditions were excellent, the lack of communication, poor handling of pace-of-play expectations, and unprofessional interactions overshadowed the positives. For these reasons, I would not return. At its current pricing, I don’t believe the experience is worth $70—truthfully, not even $50.
Great course!
Outstanding conditioned golf course. Good value compared to comparable courses.
Gateway has returned
I haven’t played Gateway in a few years. The last time I was here the course conditions were not great and the price was too high for the conditions. I decided to give Gateway another shot and was impressed with the condition of the course. Tee to green it was great! It was the best I’ve seen it in a long time,
Gateway has become a great place to play again. Challenging enough to bring out your game but also can shoot well if you're on your game.
Gateway returns
I hadn’t played this course in about 5 years as the last time I was here the course conditions weren’t up to par and the price point didn’t match either… I had a special rate for this experience so I decided to give Gateway another shot and boy I’m glad I did. I was so impressed with the upgrades and condition of the course. Tee to green it was just great! I still thing there price point is a bit steep, but the course was the best I’ve seen it since it opened 20+years ago
Awesome golf course!!!
Great course! Very well maintained. Greens are fast. Fairways are in perfect shape. Staff is very friendly. Drinks and food are very cheap. Definitely a hidden gem.
1st Time
I have lived 20 miles from this course for over 20 years and I did not know it was here. So glad I found a hidden gem. It was an early season round but the greens rolled true. My only complaint was the weather did not cooperate. We were given rain, wind, and cold weather. Every golfer knows that is a bad combo.
The staff is the best!
Gateway is a great place to play, course is awesome. Challenging enough to bring out your game but also can shoot well if you play your game. But what is better than the course is the staff. From the starters who greet you when you get in to the pro shop and service. Everyone is so friendly.
