Nice course, friendly staff!!!!
Very Friendly staff!! Red (the starter) gave us great course tips and was funny to boot, a great asset to the staff at Sanctuary! Great views from the tee box at #1 & #10!!!! Will play here again for sure, love the links style!!!!!
Good course. A different layout.
A good course but you need to play it a few times due to a few blind tee shots. You'll also have to watch out for the holes that run parallel with each other. There aren't trees to knock down errant shots. Greens could be a little faster but the views on top of the hill make up for it.
Link Course near town
This is a very good link course, Fairways and greens were very well maintained. Bunkers need more care. Cannot play out of mature heathers.
Slower than a snails pace
Nice course, no rangers to be found, we finally quit after 14 holes and 4 hours. Had to wait on every shot. Greens were inconsistant but in good shape.
Avoid it like the plague unless you tee off between 7am and 8am.
This course was beautiful. It was in great condition & was challenging to my golf game.
The green conditions were great the fairways were great the staff was awesome. The only bad thing was it took 3 hours & 15 minutes to play 9 holes because we went at 11:00 am on a Saturday so I would suggest to go early on the weekends or anytime during the week & you will love this course
Good layout ... few challenging holes that will make you think about club selection
- Course in great condition .. was bit wet from overnight rain
- Being the first one out we could finish in little over 3 1/2 hours
Great Course for $35
The course as a whole is absolutely gorgeous, from the way the holes are set up to the condition of the fairways and greens. There was only a few areas with severe patchy grass problems, but I've played on at least 10 different courses ranging from cheap and subpar to expensive and high quality, and they've all had them. The staff was friendly and the pro shop was nice. I received a 20% off coupon for the pro shop which allowed me to buy some discounted merchandise.
Overall, I would recommend this course for anyone who wishes a step up from the $18 courses. In my opinion, $35 is a steal for 4+ hours of entertainment.
Overall a decent course
Outside of some very dry patches in the fairway and rough, the course was in pretty good condition. Especially the greens.
Nice challenging course
Ist time playing this course. Offers good challenging holes pin placement was a little tough on a few. The course is a bit of a maze so you have to pay attention to signs to make sure you are on the right hole. Definitely will play again. Gave a 1 star for food and drink never saw the beer cart and was thirsty
Neat course, Terribly managed
Very well maintained course with some unique features (Deep Heather on a couple holes and a nice shot over a small lake on the 14th). Fairways were a little too close for my liking at times as there were several instances where the shots from other groups came rolling onto our fairway right in front of us one after the other. Also, pace of play was terrible. Took us approximately 6 hours to play a round. The clubhouse explained to us they use a service in Chicago to arrange the Tee times and they had no control over it. They overbooked the course for the day and also let a group of 15 out on a Saturday morning with no tee time. Why did I even bother making a tee time for my group when I can just show up whenever I want and get out? The course was interesting enough where I think I will play it again but it won't be on a weekend...
Nice links style course
The course is in pretty solid shape considering how bad the winter was. Greens were in great shape and the only issue seemed to be in some areas of the fairways where the grass would not grow back. Overall this was a great course to play and challenging at times from the tips (Black tees). We teed off at 6:00am so had no issue with backups and long rounds. It looked like an 8:00am tee time would have had more trouble though.
Greens were in good shape
Greens were in great shape. Fairways were spotty in areas. Rough was spotty in areas. Waited on almost every shot. A little pricey for afternoon golf at a city owned golf course
Nice and unique course
Links style course with few trees on most holes. Lots of hills, bunkers and trouble all around.
Nice course
Some fun elevation changes, especially on a couple par 3 holes. Greens were in great condition.
Greens very slow. Course outside of fairways very poorly maintained.
Very disapointed in quality of conditioning. Greens very slow and areas outside of fairways very rough!
THIS COURSE WAS CHALLENGING
I HAD A GOOD TIME, WILL TRY AGAIN.
ROUGH WAS A LITTLE TOO THICK.
GREENS WERE A LITTLE SLOW.
Good experience for the first time playing Sanctuary Lake.
Sanctuary Lake is something of a links style course. It has lots of elevation changes that make the course interesting. There are a few water holes, but not much water comes into play overall. The greens are fairly straightforward without too many level changes. I liked the course because you have some margin for error when driving and hitting second shots, but the course is not easy (as if any course is easy for me). The course was well maintinged through the brutal Michigan winter we had. We will be back here to play again. My only critique is that the tee times were not spaced out well and it caused a lot of groups to stack up and led to a 5+ hour round, but we also were able to relax and look around instead of rushing.
Great Course
First time I played this course and I was amazed. I've played a lot of different courses to include northern Michigan and a few in California. This course didn't have the views as Trump national did in LA but could compare to a course in Northern MI. A lot of elevation changes made it difficult to judge the hole. I will be going back a few times this year. One of the best courses i found surrounding Detroit.
Descent / Nothing Special
Good links course / if your on the fairway your pretty well off
Disappointed
I was hoping to get a fun round in with my wife yesterday 8/25/13 @ 11:16am and we were told that the pace of play would be 2:10 for the front nine...3 hours later we completed the first 9 holes....we quit after 14 holes! Pace of play was almost ridiculous. The course conditions were lacking also, greens were riddled with ball marks and fairways were barren in some areas.
