Neat course, Terribly managed
Very well maintained course with some unique features (Deep Heather on a couple holes and a nice shot over a small lake on the 14th). Fairways were a little too close for my liking at times as there were several instances where the shots from other groups came rolling onto our fairway right in front of us one after the other. Also, pace of play was terrible. Took us approximately 6 hours to play a round. The clubhouse explained to us they use a service in Chicago to arrange the Tee times and they had no control over it. They overbooked the course for the day and also let a group of 15 out on a Saturday morning with no tee time. Why did I even bother making a tee time for my group when I can just show up whenever I want and get out? The course was interesting enough where I think I will play it again but it won't be on a weekend...
Nice links style course
The course is in pretty solid shape considering how bad the winter was. Greens were in great shape and the only issue seemed to be in some areas of the fairways where the grass would not grow back. Overall this was a great course to play and challenging at times from the tips (Black tees). We teed off at 6:00am so had no issue with backups and long rounds. It looked like an 8:00am tee time would have had more trouble though.
Greens were in good shape
Greens were in great shape. Fairways were spotty in areas. Rough was spotty in areas. Waited on almost every shot. A little pricey for afternoon golf at a city owned golf course
Nice and unique course
Links style course with few trees on most holes. Lots of hills, bunkers and trouble all around.
Nice course
Some fun elevation changes, especially on a couple par 3 holes. Greens were in great condition.
Greens very slow. Course outside of fairways very poorly maintained.
Very disapointed in quality of conditioning. Greens very slow and areas outside of fairways very rough!
THIS COURSE WAS CHALLENGING
I HAD A GOOD TIME, WILL TRY AGAIN.
ROUGH WAS A LITTLE TOO THICK.
GREENS WERE A LITTLE SLOW.
Good experience for the first time playing Sanctuary Lake.
Sanctuary Lake is something of a links style course. It has lots of elevation changes that make the course interesting. There are a few water holes, but not much water comes into play overall. The greens are fairly straightforward without too many level changes. I liked the course because you have some margin for error when driving and hitting second shots, but the course is not easy (as if any course is easy for me). The course was well maintinged through the brutal Michigan winter we had. We will be back here to play again. My only critique is that the tee times were not spaced out well and it caused a lot of groups to stack up and led to a 5+ hour round, but we also were able to relax and look around instead of rushing.
Great Course
First time I played this course and I was amazed. I've played a lot of different courses to include northern Michigan and a few in California. This course didn't have the views as Trump national did in LA but could compare to a course in Northern MI. A lot of elevation changes made it difficult to judge the hole. I will be going back a few times this year. One of the best courses i found surrounding Detroit.
Descent / Nothing Special
Good links course / if your on the fairway your pretty well off
Disappointed
I was hoping to get a fun round in with my wife yesterday 8/25/13 @ 11:16am and we were told that the pace of play would be 2:10 for the front nine...3 hours later we completed the first 9 holes....we quit after 14 holes! Pace of play was almost ridiculous. The course conditions were lacking also, greens were riddled with ball marks and fairways were barren in some areas.
Very good design
Interesting layout...fun and challenging. Perhaps a few too many blind shots. I'll need to play this course a few times to get to know how to manage it. Course conditions very good. Clubhouse very friendly and helpful. I'll be back!
Challenging back 9
Course requires some attention but overall, it was a pleasant experience. Challenging holes, especially on the back 9 where you have very narrow fairways with water on one side and forest on the other. Very hilly also, to add to the difficulty.
OK to Play
A little over 4 1/2 hours to play. Waited on almost every tee (sometimes for 2 groups). Most likely because the course was short and twosomes were not paired up (and we never saw a ranger or even a starter). Greens were a bit worn but otherwise the course was in good condition. Many holes had a significant change in elevation. Since the course is built over an old landfill, be prepared for occasional whiffs of unpleasant odors from the numerous vents scattered around the course.
This course challenges me to use all the clubs in my bag.
I found the course in super condition although being on a trash fill the stench at times was very smelly to me. This was the first time I noticed the aroma, I've played this course 4 times in the past three years.
Great value for the money
We enjoyed the course. It is attractive and has something to offer for golfers of all levels. The pace of play was slow but it was midday on a Friday in August. However, we still would have appreciated a marshall on the course to help speed up play.
this course is a must play it will test all aspects of your golf game
been playing here for 5 years its one of my top 5 places to play for the money
Challenging with great views
This was our first te ever playing here. We enjoyed the challenges this course offered.
The cons- #4 & #17's tee box positions didn't make a lot of sense in the were they were located. Very dangerous while standing on #4's tee box. Also, the pace of play was extremely slow and the ranger never sped it up.
Good links style course
A links on top of a landfill - nice course - has some tricky holes but overall is pretty playable. The course on a Sunday was SLOW - 5 and a half hour round.
Good Challenge
Excellent course if you enjoy a challenge- many elevated tee boxes, very punitive rough, greens are fast and tricky. I would not recommend for a short hitter, will be a very frustrating test.
