Mid October Review
Mud Run is a great little course, 2500 yards from the back, par 34. One 500+ yard par 5, three short par 3, and the rest are fairly short par 4s. The course is fairly open, but all holes are surrounded by trees on all sides. All the par 3s are really tricky and super fun, really need to know how the green will receive your ball with crazy green complexes and blind shots from the back tees. Even though the distance is short, its can play really difficult, if you miss your targets. Greens have a lot of slope and undulation, but green speeds were a lot slower than they were this summer, which made them more puttable. Usually in good shape. Its very kid friendly as it is the hole of First Tee of Akron.
Late September Review
I play Mud Run regularly with my kids, it is a nice 9 hole course. It has a modern design, very playable, and is a lot of fun. Even though it is short, it has some teeth, if you make mistakes. Greens have a ton of slope, and can get out of control if they are cut to short or get to firm. It is an excellent course to teach beginners how to play the game and understand course management. The short par 4 fourth is a great example of how angles can improve your ability to score.
The greens had not yet been aerated. The green speeds and pin placements were the most fair I've played them all summer, and the course was in excellent shape. Nothing better than fall golf.
Awesome place to learn
This is my first season playing golf and I have been playing MudRun to learn the game. The staff are great and easy to talk to. Great course overall and keeps me coming back to play.
Not recommended in its current shape...
I have played Mud Run many times this summer, it is a great course especially for kids and families. The layout is great, nice wide modern design, big greens with a lot of break. Greens are tough to read even under normal conditions. It's been a really dry summer, Mud Run is softer than many other local courses and is routinely watered. But like all the local courses, it has gotten quite a bit firmer and faster.
With all the undulations on the greens, pin have been put in precarious places on greens throughout the course. For example, the flag was places just off the ridge the separates the green right and left. But the ball could not stay on the ridge and would roll to the bottom of the green. That was even if you were putting uphill to the hole, the ball rolled back to the bottom of the hill. This course caters to junior and novice golfers, not US Open style putting greens. It was frustrating to my two kids, who played ping pong on the greens all day, as decent adult players it was difficult. The pins could have easily been put in less penal locations.
I have left very many good reviews for Mud Run, but the course needs to be set up more fair to receive a recommendation this time.
Short but difficult
This course is always in good condition, it is shorting distance but can definitely test your all-around golf skill level
Great Track
I play this course frequently. The practice areas are exceptional and the course is in great shape I just wish they could add another nine holes this would be a very good thing.

Great course!
Mud run is a nice course for what you pay. The holes are mostly straight forward, and long enough to make it fun. The staff has always been great and I really love their driving range!
Tough little course!
Don't judge this course in length! Trouble to the right the entire course and thick rough protect the greens which have a great deal of break. I love a course where you can play 9 in 90 minutes. Staff friendly and accommodating! Play this course weekly and strengthen you iron play!
Mud Run value
Mud run is a jewel in the rough. Good course being run by great people
Holiday fun!
For playing on a holiday, the pace was very good. The course wasn't too crowded, and we didn't feel rushed at all. This was very good because my girlfriend is a beginner. The course well-maintained and the staff was very helpful! I certainly hope to come back and play again very soon!
Great course for novice, kids, and practice
I have played Mud Run several times in the last month, because it is so kid friendly. I have played with my 6 & 4 year olds, other than the par 3 third, there are no forced carries that allow them to play quickly and really enjoy themselves. The course has a nice modern design, but is geared for novice golfers. Short par 3s and 4s, and limited amount of penal areas.
I had an early afternoon tee time, I played with my wife and kids (all are beginners). We played in just over 2 hours, we had to wait on a few holes. But there was no one behind us, so we played at a comfortable pace.
The course is well maintained for a muni, practice area is the best in the area. It is the home of The First Tee of Akron, and they cater to junior golfers, just be prepared for kids and teenagers on the course.
Nice course, good condition
It was my first time playing Mud Run with my course, I played with my 4 and 6 year old kids. Mud Run is a great course for beginners, it is wide and modern. Everything is open and in front of you. You have many options on how to play the course. I let my kids start in the fairway, and hit until the green. They play quick, and we caught up with the groups in front of us on the 6 hole, the groups two holes a head was a grandfather with two kids too.
It was in nice condition, and a really nice short design. I will play here again, especially with my kids. Both my kids loved playing here.
This Course Can Test You
This is a great course to work on your game… It is short but challenging
Great 9 holes of golf!
Mud Run is a "hidden gem" on the west side of Akron. I hesitate to say that because I don't want others to know about it. A small but challenging course with a great facility. The folks from "First Tee" are doing an excellent job of managing the course and making small improvements to enhance your golfing experience at Mud Run and support our youth and kids at the same time.
Hidden Gem in Akron, OH
Been wanting to play this course for a few years, finally fit into my schedule. My friend and I were both first timers, and were totally satisfied with the course, the level of difficulty and the conditions. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They have a full range with both grass and heated mat tees, and also lighted. Will definitely be back to play again. Well worth the small drive and very affordable. For those that like a longer course, this isn't for you as distance from back tees is just under 2900 yards.
