Shale Creek Golf Club

Great course! You will use almost every club in your bag. Staying in the fairway is numero uno. Staff is great. Will be back again and again.

Sçrinkler system was broken and course us completely burned out. No reduced price for poor course conditions

I played this course as part of a golf trip to/around the Cleveland area in late May 2023. This course was included on our itinerary based on its listing as a Top Course by Golf Advisor.

PACE: It was a busy Saturday, but with 10-minute tees the course moved just fine. It did bunch up a bit towards the end, but we still came in at 4 hours.

CONDITIONS: Everything was good. Played with a 2some who played here before and said the course needed a big drink of water. I would agree. There were brown and burnout spots all over. The tees and green were okay. The pace of the greens was fair. The bunkers had a lot of pebbles in them.

STAFF: Pro shop and starter were very helpful.

VALUE: The greens fee seemed good for a Saturday afternoon.

LAYOUT: Played the Blue tees (6,300). This is a sub-division course that winds thru a housing community. The front 9 has longer holes with wider fairways and areas to miss. For the back 9, holes #10 thru #14 pack a lot of golf into a smaller area of land. It's fun, but keep your head on a swivel as several errant shots came close to us. Good variety of holes, and I used every club in my bag. Given the distance between some of the holes, I would not recommend walking this course (#2 to #3 is over a quarter-mile).

Throw in the fact that it was absolutely perfect weather with just enough wind to challenge you, Shale Creek never disappoints. Two thumbs up. 👍 👍

always in great shape one if best public course in cleve area

I've played most of the public access courses over the years and created my own personal 'rota' of the favorites. Shale Creek owns a top slot among the most preferred venues. It's all right in front of you. It's fun and more than fair. Do your part, that would be hit the golf ball, and you'll likely have a scorecard you can proudly take home and show to Mom. Not tricky or quirk some, Shale is very straight-forward. It's putting surfaces, (whenever I've played, they've been in great shape.) along with a handful of water hazards provide the greatest challenge to scoring. Keep it dry, roll it true, and you'll be well positioned to have a very good golf experience at Shale Creek.

Well it was extremely windy so the upwind holes were extra challenging, but downwind I had to club down at least 2 clubs. Greens were much better than a few weeks ago, not quite as wet so not as many unrepaired ball marks. You'd think a nice course like Shale would attract players who know what a ball mark is and that they are not intended to be obstacles for the rest of the day. But you'd be wrong. Overall a nice way to end the season

Course was in excellent shape given the time of year. Course was cleaned off and ready for play no leaves around on greens or fairways. Great recovery or signs of fall maintenance either. As always great experience at the course

This is one of my favorotes in this area. It's a great.coirse. Go play it and enjoy the experience!

Shale Creek has gone down hill significantly. It is a great layout but is horribly maintained. The edges of the greens and fringes are dying so instead of fixing them they reduce the size of the green. The fairways have numerous bare spots. The bunkers either have no sand or too much sand. The edges of the bunkers are not properly maintained so they are collapsing. The drainage is the bunkers is not good either, the fairway bunker on #9 is a pond for several days after it rains. The green fees are way too much for the poor course conditions. The GM will tell you it’s not a country club which is proof he doesn’t care about the poor conditions. Given the prices they charge, you should expect country club conditions. The restaurant kitchen is rarity open due to the “so called” employee shortage. It helps to look for employees. The owner could careless, the course and clubhouse became write off to him once his father passed away. The home owners around the course will continue to be the ones to suffer especially if the course goes under like Blue Heron. It will become an expensive walking path!
