Shale Creek Golf Club
About
Nestled in a quiet residential community, Shale Creek Golf Club sprawls across land that for a century prior had been the Gunkelman Farm. The course repurposes the rolling terrain into a challenging layout. The subtle changes in elevation make for some tricky lies. There are also many streams that meander through the golf course before cascading into the nearby Rocky River. The river even comes into play from the 10th to the 15th holes. The golf course features large, undulating greens and wide fairways. Water has a dominant presence on the course but the final holes showcase more traditional Ohio terrain with wooded, gently rolling hills though you'll still have plenty of water to contend with on these holes. Shale Creek Golf Club requires accuracy and it will make you think, but it's not too difficult for a beginner to enjoy.

Amazing Conditions
For Early November it was in great shape and great condition. I truly love the overall layout of Shale Creek
Quality course & staff.
The staff at Shale was friendly and helpful.
The course is very tough, with lots of hazards and plenty of water. Good turf quality.
Very slow play.
One of the best courses in the area
Great golf course. The course is as fun to play as any in NEO. Challenging and fun, one of those courses you will use every club and shot in the bag. It drains well, even after it rained all night, there was no restrictions on carts first thing in the morning. Free practice range (it is closed for the season now). GPS in the carts.
Good as always
Full price might be more than I can justify paying here, but anytime I can get a deal, I make the time to head out to Shale Creek. It's a great time. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is great, the course is fun, and the facilities are fantastic.
ALL GOOD!
Must play this course more than once. GPS worked great. Greens are fast and run true n smooth. Fairways are tight and run your drives to the max. Can't say one bad thing about this course. All inside facilities are excellent. I'LLLLL be bock !!!!!!
Did not have a chance to sample the food or beverages this trip.
Worth the drive
Very nice course and worth the 1 hr. drive eventough weather was poor-- rained and windy for 5-6 holes but course was in great shape and challenging. Will be back in the summer months
excellent round
The course is a premium course. Well maintained fairways , true speedy greens and great clubhouse and driving range. We took advantage of forward placed tees to shoot 74/78. Very enjoyable afternoon. Well worth the price.
Need Ranger
I play Shale a handful of times every summer and usually have a great experience. This time, not so good. Weather was great, course was beautiful, but SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. Played as a two some and took 5 hours! Three groups in front didn't know how to go to their ball and be ready to hit. A ranger would have been great to help speed them up. I know the starter has GPS in his cart and can see all the carts logged jammed... Someone should have come out to move it along or let us by. We tried to move ahead, but the groups in front were not friendly and didn't think they were the ones playing slow... They were. I'll try Shale again, maybe not on a Sunday with perfect weather when the Browns are on a bye week though!
Awesome course
Beautiful challenging course. Had no problems with the golf now tee time like I have had before at other courses. Pace of play was a little slow but that will happen on a Thursday.
My NEW favorite course
Played Shale Creek on a Saturday afternoon. Check in went smooth. You don't have to pay for range balls. (Nice!# The course was fantastic. I loved the layout. Greens were fast and rolled true. Lots of elevation changes and sidehill lies. Bunkers were mostly immaculate looking. (I was fortunate to avoid them.) Its a little bit of a hike being that its all the way in Medina. It was worth the drive and I cant wait to get back. The green fee is a little steep but you get what you pay for. One thing that was disappointing was the little snack bar they have at the turn was just closing for the day at 4:00! C'mon man. We were hungry and wanted to get food.
A Good Test
The course was in excellent condition and the facilities and amenities are first class. This is a course avid golfers should play.
Great course and condition
Course was beautiful, and in great shape. It was worth both the money and drive (it is 45 minutes from my house). I am sure i will be back at least 1 or 2 times a year from now on.
Great course and total golf experience
This country links style course is has everything you want in a golf course. Elevation changes, great fairway and green contouring, and a long wide bunkers. The design is second to none, at no point does it feel overly contrived and constructed, like all of Brian Huntley's courses. GPS in carts, free range balls and free water, and the exceptional up keep of the course add to overall experience.
Very interesting course
This course will make you really think but won't beat you up too bad. Every hole is interesting to a point where you just want to stand and look. Accuracy is a must. Don't worry too much about distance. I loved playing this place. It's like no other around. Great shape. Very relaxing atmosphere.
Outstanding Course...A Must Play!
From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the staff and treated with the greatest respect. They were happy to serve us in every way from their awesome food to their beautiful facilities. The course was in excellent condition...except for the greens which seemed to have a lot of ballparks (obviously the golfers' fault for not fixing them than the course's fault). This is one course we definitely recommend to anyone at any skill level. We will definitely play here again and hope you will too! It really is a must play!
beautiful course
Beautiful course very tough and challenging. Would recommend anyone to play this course. Love the gps in the golf carts.
Prestine course
Well maintained greens and fairways. Overall excellent choice for a round of golf.
Play it again!
Once we played through a fivesome AND a very very slow twosome, the pace of play was good. Greens fast rolled true
Excellent Course
The course was great, staff was friendly, food was delicious, but I was most impressed with how advanced the gps unit attached to the cart was. It gave flyovers of each hole, distances to everything imaginable on each hole, you can report any problems you have from the golf cart, and even email the scorecard to yourself or a friend. I will definitely play this course more often when I get out of retail and make more than minimum wage.
Gem of a course
This course is a Gem. Love the free balls at the driving range to prep your shot. excellent course. Greens roll true, which made my short game tough, but true. fairways are prestine. No complaints at all. need better signage on hole 5 to 6 so that you don't play the wrong hole order, but that is the only issue. PLAY this course if you live in Northeast OHIO.
We are glad you loved the layout! We hope to see you back soon.
