About
Nestled in a quiet residential community, Shale Creek Golf Club sprawls across land that for a century prior had been the Gunkelman Farm. The course repurposes the rolling terrain into a challenging layout. The subtle changes in elevation make for some tricky lies. There are also many streams that meander through the golf course before cascading into the nearby Rocky River. The river even comes into play from the 10th to the 15th holes. The golf course features large, undulating greens and wide fairways. Water has a dominant presence on the course but the final holes showcase more traditional Ohio terrain with wooded, gently rolling hills though you'll still have plenty of water to contend with on these holes. Shale Creek Golf Club requires accuracy and it will make you think, but it's not too difficult for a beginner to enjoy.

It was a great day for golf on an excellent course.
The course was in great shape and enjoyed the round.
Beautiful course
Very challenging and manicured course. You get to use every club in your bag. Greens are hard and speeds varied from hole to hole.
Practice range with free golf balls was a plus.
Only disappointment was food service - only hot dogs at turn.
You have to go in Granite Grill for sandwiches. You would be better to bring your own

Sunday afternoon, real hot out. No water on the course(drinking fountains off, it's May 10th???). The snack bar at the turn, to get something to drink was closed. HAA? it's Sunday afternoon. Course is great amenities not good.

Pricey but worth it
Shale Creek is really a beautiful layout, and impeccably maintained as well. We played in the morning right after a good rain, course drains exceptionally well so no mud, and greens were still quite fast. The only complaint I could have is the price, as it is more expensive than other courses in the area, but at the same time, you get what you pay for.

Really nice test of golf great condition always ! Nice facility with friendly staff. Lunch was very slow but not bad.

Course is tough and fun
it's good course for everyone. Can be challenging at times. Many tee boxes allows for a variety of handicaps to play and enjoy this course.

From arrival--met by a starters who are friendly and accommodating--in fact the whole staff makes you feel that your experience at Shale Creek is important to them--to a course that is well groomed and challenging,

Great track if the price is right

I think in the prime months the course asks for $60+ / better courses out there for that kind of price
Overall good course, has a driving range (there were no balls available) and a putting / chipping green.

Lightning fast greens on a good test
Shale Creek presented the fastest greens I have played all year. Overall conditions were very good. Clubhouse staff were very accomodating. Great deal for $22 on Golf.now. A couple holes require local knowledge, but most were fairly straightforward.
Beautiful Course
Had the pleasure of playing this beauty November 4th. The weather was around 60, partly sunny, but pretty windy. Wind came from all directions. Many of the holes the approach or par 3 tee shot was at least 2 clubs. Nonetheless, I found the layout unique but not Mickey Mouse like the old Blue Heron, eg. forced blind carries, pin positions that you could easily 5-putt. It was a fair course off the tee, enough room if you spray it, with the rough not so penal that you couldn't advance the ball. Greens were undulating, but again very fair. Reminds me of Boulder Creek as far as the conditions, layout, and conditioning, but Boulder in my opinion is a better value and more scenic. I will be back a few more times to learn where to place the ball off the tee and where to put my approach shots on the greens. Had alot of fun. The only negative was that as a 2-some, we caught up to 2 groups in front of us on the back nine. One 4-some and a 5-some, therefore played thee last 6 holes waiting on our shots.Worth the play for sure though. Thanks.

Quality course & staff.
The staff at Shale was friendly and helpful.
The course is very tough, with lots of hazards and plenty of water. Good turf quality.
Very slow play.
One of the best courses in the area
Great golf course. The course is as fun to play as any in NEO. Challenging and fun, one of those courses you will use every club and shot in the bag. It drains well, even after it rained all night, there was no restrictions on carts first thing in the morning. Free practice range (it is closed for the season now). GPS in the carts.
Good as always
Full price might be more than I can justify paying here, but anytime I can get a deal, I make the time to head out to Shale Creek. It's a great time. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is great, the course is fun, and the facilities are fantastic.
