South/North Golf Course at The Legends of Massillon

About
The Legends of Massillon consistently ranks as one of the top public golf courses in Ohio. The club has 27 holes of championship golf that is divided into three different nines called East, North, and South. The nines can be played in different 18-hole combinations though they all share heavy smattering of bunkers and water hazards. More than 80 bunkers are strategically placed throughout the 27 holes and water comes into play on 22 of them. Originally opened as an 18-hole golf course, another nine holes were added. Each nine consists of six holes from the original course and three new ones. The South/North combination has greens that are large and inviting and there are four different sets of tees. Players of all skill levels will find a round that suits them.

Really nice golf course
I play here a couple times a month, course in in really good shape except for the sand traps. Most are unplayable with a lot of rocks in them. Great practice facilities. Price is one of the best in the area, especially for Seniors, which I think starts at 55.
Really nice course and one of the few to offer a senior discount even on weekends
I like this course, prices are some of the lowest in Stark County. Course is in very good shape.
Always a great play!
Always look forward to playing at the Legends, conditions are very good, staff is friendly, however this time was terrible for pace of play!!Tee time was 11:32 and didn’t get off course till 4:30. Five hours is way too long to play during the midday! Never saw a ranger, probably didn’t have one with today’s help situation! No one wants to work anymore! Sign of the times!! Hopefully the next time will be better!
Need Help Mowing ?
Carts tell you pace of play and rangers try to push you along. How about you mow the roughs. I understand it rains, but if you can mow fairways, you can mow roughs. Don’t need to go crazy. Take a third of the height. In the past, I’ve had Ranger tell me to pick up the pace. Told him it’s near impossible to find a ball in the rough. He said,”you shouldn’t hit in the rough”. What a genius! Asked him if he ever saw me playing on TV - he said no. Told him that’s why I’m here. Bunkers have been junk for at least 6-7 years. Eliminate 75% of the bunkers, mow roughs and tell rangers to relax and give them a mower too. Wanna speed up play - mow the roughs!
Never again
They severely overbooked causing major backup at the first tee and beyond. I'd rather be told a course doesn’t have tee times than have to sit 20-30 minutes between holes. The staff then blamed the extremely slow pace of play on “bad golfers” instead of admitting they overbooked. The course is really not well maintained despite reviews saying that it is. Weeds everywhere including in the bunkers which would already be unplayable without them due to complete lack of upkeep. It’s very evident that they are only looking to make money even if it’s at the expense of the golfers enjoyment.
Great first experience
Had a great time for sure starter was super friendly and explained the course well to us. Loved the layout that’s for sure made for a challenge for newer golfers but extremely playable
Great round
Had a blast played the north and the east course. Starter was extremely friendly and courteous and paired us with a single with our threesome and we all had a blast. Great conditions considering the amount of rain we’ve gotten so very impressed will be back.
Works for me.
Open fairways not alot of trees nice readable greens!!!! works for me. !!!
Nice track
Overall, course was in good shape for all the rain we’ve had. Starter was a great guy and let me and my son get out early. Also offered advice on the bunkers which were not ready yet for play. Pace of play was slow because people do t let you play thru. Had some golfers in front of us who should have stick to playing putt putt. Great course, great staff, nice clubhouse. I would recommend this course for sure, not a course for beginners but really nice for average or above players!
One of my Favorites
Played 18 today with my brother & a buddy who were first-timers to Legends, and we all had a blast! Brother drove up from Columbus to meet us, and it’s approximately a 1 hour drive for me and my friend, but we all agreed it was worth the drive.
I have played the course a handful of times, and really ever have only had 1 bad experience on my last visit, due to very slow pace of play; they had seriously overbooked and we got stuck behind 4 other groups from the start. I will give the starter credit, though; he tried to move my group(two people)up in front of the rest of the groups(all foursomes). Two of those groups were nice enough to let us play through, but the other two refused. A little common sense and courtesy by those two groups would have helped immensely w/ the pace of play complaint, but I guess those two traits are lost on some folks. So, as I mentioned earlier, I won’t totally blast the Legends staff for doing nothing to try and improve pace of play that day.
I was, of course, somewhat concerned that it could be a repeat this time, as I have seen pace of play complaints showing up in recent reviews as well. I’ll also say this; it seems like slow pace of play is FAR from exclusive to only this course. I feel like it’s an epidemic that pretty much affects every course at some point. I can say this time, though, pace of play was definitely not an issue. Talking to the starter today, it seemed as if they were actively trying to help make sure things didn’t get bottlenecked…he found us on the driving range about 10 minutes before our tee time, and offered to get us out early since the group before was running late. We jumped at that chance, and had maybe 2 times the whole round that we had to wait on the tee for groups ahead; maybe added 10 minutes total to our round. Can’t really complain about 4&1/2 hours for 18 on a Sunday morning.
Touching on a couple other points - course was today, and always has been, in great shape any time I’ve played it. Couple aerated greens on North 9 that made for tricky putts, but no other issues at all anywhere else this round.
Have always loved the layout of this course, it’s why I keep coming back!
Went there to play 18 and left after 9
So we had a 8:52am tee time. We were on the tee box @ 8:40am. We were not able to tee off until 9:12am due to the slow pace of play. For as many course options this course has we were backed up 4 groups by the 3rd hole. We paid to play 18 holes however due to time restraints we were only able to play 9 holes that day which took over 3 hours of agony to get through. For as large of course that it is, the starter should have distributed golfers across the course instead of bottlenecking everyone. It is a nice course, we played right after aeration and overseeding from the course conditions. I guess i really expected more compared to other courses in the area.
