BlackHorse Golf Club - North Course
About
The environmentally friendly Blackhorse Golf Club in Cypress was designed by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, who teamed to build one of the best 36-hole, daily-fee facilities in Texas. Designed to maximize the natural setting, this beautiful complex is a perfect setting for golf with its huge variety of oaks, elms, and wetlands that provide habitat for a wide variety of bird species. Holes 4-6 on Blackhorse Golf Club's North Course generally get the best of high handicappers. Holes 4 and 5 route through massive trees and expansive wetlands, both playing over 400 yards. No. 6 is the North Course's signature: a 180-yarder that tees over the bend of the creek to an elevated green enhanced with railroad ties and framed by bunkers.

Poorly maintained
Looks and feel very different from the pictures on website. Tee boxes weee in very poor condition. Cart condition were also not what I expect for a course with this price. Greens were fast but with variable speed.
Nice course
We played a round at BlackHorse on Dec 12 and it was fun. Course was in good conditions!
Nice course
Good overall conditions. Too many sand bunkers. Mostly straight and flat so not particularly challenging or interesting. Also not much to look at visually.
Thanks Marshals!
The Marshall came out multiple times. Play speeded up noticeably each time, allowing me to finish in four hours and avoid the encroaching darkness at 525 pm. Course was in remarkable shape considering the continuing drought. Greens were true, no bare patches, consistently fast. Rough was fair, cut two inches and thick enough not to allow a ball to settle..
Excellent Course
Extremely pleased with the course conditions. Directional signs need a little improvement as it is not so clear, particularly going to the tenth hole. I definitely go back to play when there is a hot deal.
Dea slow pace
The pace for the day was dreadful, 15-20min waits on every tee. I understand alittle but if a wait but when I started the back nine I was 1hr 45mins behind pace and I shot 1 over. Tried using the cart gps to call a marshal then called the pro shop and was told “maybe get an earlier tee time” and I will take that advice on another course. Not worth the money and headache to play there.
Tough course but pure
I played black horse north course. Staff are friendly and the course conditions are as pure as they can be. This course is obviously in the higher side for pricing but you get what you pay for. Very well taken care of and nice carts. Only thing I didn’t like is the micromanaging systems in the carts. Pace of play was alright. A lot of times I found myself waiting before each shot at least a few minutes to five minutes and keep in mind this was on a Tuesday twilight tee time. So weekends probably have more waiting involved.
The course is very challenging and long but a crazy cool design. A lot of fun holes to play. But not for your beginner golfer. If you’re just starting out and don’t hit very far, this might be a very very tough course for you to play.
Cart path only
Cart path for any senior not recommended on a day with light winds and a heat index (Hooks airport) touching 100. Obviously the excessive drought is effecting this course. I’m guessing watering fairways has been cut back due to county restrictions. This has produced a lack of good roll in the fairways. It was exhausting for this 73 year old having to locate and walk to balls across the fairways from cart paths. An ordeal I was glad was over. Not helping was the lack of refreshment carts. Thank God I had taken a couple of bottled waters with me. Ran out by the 16th after 5 pm and the auxiliary refreshment stand by the driving range had already closed. Avoid this course until cooler weather arrives!
Expensive
too expensive for what you get. Feels exactly like Gleannloch Pines but is $20 to $40 more expensive.
Best course in cypress
This is the greenest public course in north Houston at the moment probably. Definitely the best course in the cypress area. Greens were very fast but I truly enjoyed the course and the layout.
