BlackHorse Golf Club - North Course
About
The environmentally friendly Blackhorse Golf Club in Cypress was designed by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, who teamed to build one of the best 36-hole, daily-fee facilities in Texas. Designed to maximize the natural setting, this beautiful complex is a perfect setting for golf with its huge variety of oaks, elms, and wetlands that provide habitat for a wide variety of bird species. Holes 4-6 on Blackhorse Golf Club's North Course generally get the best of high handicappers. Holes 4 and 5 route through massive trees and expansive wetlands, both playing over 400 yards. No. 6 is the North Course's signature: a 180-yarder that tees over the bend of the creek to an elevated green enhanced with railroad ties and framed by bunkers.

Thanks Marshals!
The Marshall came out multiple times. Play speeded up noticeably each time, allowing me to finish in four hours and avoid the encroaching darkness at 525 pm. Course was in remarkable shape considering the continuing drought. Greens were true, no bare patches, consistently fast. Rough was fair, cut two inches and thick enough not to allow a ball to settle..
Excellent Course
Extremely pleased with the course conditions. Directional signs need a little improvement as it is not so clear, particularly going to the tenth hole. I definitely go back to play when there is a hot deal.
Dea slow pace
The pace for the day was dreadful, 15-20min waits on every tee. I understand alittle but if a wait but when I started the back nine I was 1hr 45mins behind pace and I shot 1 over. Tried using the cart gps to call a marshal then called the pro shop and was told “maybe get an earlier tee time” and I will take that advice on another course. Not worth the money and headache to play there.
Tough course but pure
I played black horse north course. Staff are friendly and the course conditions are as pure as they can be. This course is obviously in the higher side for pricing but you get what you pay for. Very well taken care of and nice carts. Only thing I didn’t like is the micromanaging systems in the carts. Pace of play was alright. A lot of times I found myself waiting before each shot at least a few minutes to five minutes and keep in mind this was on a Tuesday twilight tee time. So weekends probably have more waiting involved.
The course is very challenging and long but a crazy cool design. A lot of fun holes to play. But not for your beginner golfer. If you’re just starting out and don’t hit very far, this might be a very very tough course for you to play.
Cart path only
Cart path for any senior not recommended on a day with light winds and a heat index (Hooks airport) touching 100. Obviously the excessive drought is effecting this course. I’m guessing watering fairways has been cut back due to county restrictions. This has produced a lack of good roll in the fairways. It was exhausting for this 73 year old having to locate and walk to balls across the fairways from cart paths. An ordeal I was glad was over. Not helping was the lack of refreshment carts. Thank God I had taken a couple of bottled waters with me. Ran out by the 16th after 5 pm and the auxiliary refreshment stand by the driving range had already closed. Avoid this course until cooler weather arrives!
Expensive
too expensive for what you get. Feels exactly like Gleannloch Pines but is $20 to $40 more expensive.
Best course in cypress
This is the greenest public course in north Houston at the moment probably. Definitely the best course in the cypress area. Greens were very fast but I truly enjoyed the course and the layout.
Watch out (Extremely Hot)
NO water bottles with the starter as I was told The starter wasn't in his place. The cart girl met my group at the tee at hole #1 and then at hole #8. Because we were just starting I failed to get any water (my bad) and by hole 8 I had a very bad headache that ruined my round. The critic is because I stopped at three holes to drink water from the coolers and there were no paper/plastic cups. None. Please fix this.
Other than that Blackhorse is a beauty.
Definitely going back
Right now this course is probably the best maintained in the area. It still has green fairways and good greens. Little expensive if booking at regular prices but is still one of my favorites
Disappointing
I’ve played the course many times before but it’s been about a year since I was last there. The new carts are a disaster. They shut down the moment you enter the rough, requiring you to back out before you can proceed. Same with all cart path only holes, of which there were supposed to be four but in reality there were 14 today. Makes no sense in the TX heat. The carts automatically slow at cart path intersections and on the course to remind you of the “90 degree rule”. I’ve always enjoyed the course, but it’s gone geriatric. Too many other options to want to deal with that again.
No beer cart
Every time that I have played, no beer cart. That is the only problem, period.
Great Course
Even with extreme heat, the course seem well maintained, green a bit faster and exceptional service! Our cart was broke/battery they came replace new cart in a few minutes! Very very well maintained golf course! Will come back this day to play again!
The person who works at the check in gate doesn’t seem friendly I guess the heat took it from him!
Good layout/ammenities
Course was in decent shape. Greens were rolling fast and true and the fairways were decent. Some bad patches and gir but overall acceptable. The course has a pretty average layout compared to the south course but it does have a great stretch from 4-8. Very scorable from the blues even with heavy wind. Carts are very small but do have a gps and you can prder food/drinks to grab at the halfway house. If you can find a hot deal under 50 it’s definitely worth it. I would not pay full price for the current conditions however.
Course Condition
The grass off the fairways was extremely high actually the ball was buried beneath the grass. This was throughout the course. The bunkers are craters which I assume is their idea of a hazard. Overall, the course is fun to play, it can play long on the par 5’s. The GPS on the carts is a nice to have and the carts were clean and comfortable.
