About
The South Course at BlackHorse is known for the sand quarry that was ingeniously worked into the layout by the design team. Particularly on the back side, the wetlands and sand features come into play prominently and create a totally unique setting for golf.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 290 west to the Spring Cypress exit. Go south (left) under Hwy. 290 to Old Hempstead Hwy. Turn right and drive .5 mile. Turn left on House & Hahl Rd. Then left on Mound Rd. and right on Fry Rd. The entrance is on the right.

Great layout and challenge
Played the south course and was delayed a bit for the frost. First time playing here and I have to say it is one of the most enjoyable layouts in Houston. The fairways are oak lined which sets up your shots very well. Greens were in great shape along with the fairways.
Any conditions complaint you see is focused around dense tree areas where they haven’t trimmed the limbs to get enough air flow and light so don’t let that shy you away.
Too many on the course
Not sure what happened, pace of play is normally good at this course. This particular round after 4hrs and 45 mins we were only able to get in 17 holes. Course was in good shape, greens were great for this time of year. Staff and amenities are always great.
Great and course but little bit expensive
Great and course but little bit expensive course. Some times it smells quite a lot due to bad sewage, especially on back 9 holes.
Must play
Other than the weather being rainy for first 9 holes it was a good day of golf. Course in good shape, staff was great , well kept course all around!
Put in a 5some and took 5 hours 20 min
Golf course is terribly unorganized. They have way too many people booked and mix in with tournaments. We were forced to play with a member and then paired with 2 others. 5 golfers is no good. It was terribly slow.
The Summer heat is Gone
Great course, unfurtunately there was a tournament going and the pace of play was slow...Almost 6 hours to the round. I wish next time GolNow will let us know about these events
2023 Drought
Mother Nature took away the beauty of the south course. The dried up lakes make you shake your head knowing how it looked before. But they will be back!!
Still a beautiful course
Dry but good
South course has many holes which are cart path only. The new electronic controlled carts do less than ample notice to players of these requirements. Several holes our cart was stuck on the fairway because it failed to notify us. Our playing partners cart worked fine. Otherwise dry as expected but the greens were great and rolled true.
Never disappointing
Fantastic course, well maintained. It is always great to play this course
First Time Playing Blackhorse South
Great course and facility. Very impressed with staff. Only dawn back is while playing in hot conditions the beverage cart never made the rounds on the south course.

Fantastic course. The entire case is in great shape regardless the weather. Looking forward to play the north course
Narrow fairways
Watering this course have made the difference among many other courses where dry surfaces had made it hard to enjoy a good round
