The second, par-4, 409. A stern, uphill, tee-to-green test on a hole that plays longer than its yardage. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/21/2021

The fourth hole at Fox Hopyard features a spectacular drop to a raised green whose surface is some 70 feet below this tee. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/21/2021

Seven. Par-4, 395. Trouble for the unwary. It’s target golf all the way to the narrow green, but nonetheless a fine hole. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/21/2021

Fourteen (224). Another strong par-3 here. You’ll need an excellent tee shot to find the surface. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/21/2021

Eighteen, par-5, 551. My playing partner rips a drive up the fairway. This robust finisher will put your skill to the test. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/21/2021

Eighteen, as seen from across the pond, near the entry drive. A ribbon of fairway; a green set hard by the water. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 09/21/2021

Great course!
Played Fox Hopyard because it was time to play an outstanding course.
First thing was the course staff could not have been more helpful! They must have been well trained to put the customer first. So polite, friendly and so helpful. It really set the tone for a great day of golf.
The course is in fantastic condition. I thaught from the pictures that it was going to be more challenging, and it was to a certain degree, but, playing from the White Tees, it does open it up a bit.
The course is picturesque and very very maintained. No garbage or debris left lying around. Golf carts are well maintained, practice facilities are in great shape.
Just a great place to play!
Will definitely go back for another round.
Thanks Fox for making it such a great day!
first time playing the course found it well maintained and very scenic. greens are fast and some challenging would love to play again.
Top Notch!
Best public course I've played in CT. For early May with an ugly start to spring, it was in excellent condition. Great layout, well designed, a shot makers course. There weren't any holes that were hard just to make your day miserable but also nothing was easy, even the shorter par 4s had great design to them. My home base is Richter Park in Danbury but not anymore when I can take an hour drive and pay about the same, get a bag of warmup balls, and play a much better course with a lot less traffic. I am playing Crumpin Fox, their brother course, next weekend...should be loads of fun. This group knows how to use our money, investing back in their courses.
Early Season Golf
The course layout is terrific. It is early in the season so the fairways and greens are not at their best. A great value.
Can you be more specific on the conditions of the greens? Playing here saturday
A beautiful course
Love playing at Fox Hopyard. Greens are in rough shape right now though.
Birthday round with sons.
Everyone still raving about the course and our experience. Can't wait to play again!

Did not care for the layout. Front nine like a mountain course , back nine flat and wet. Pace of play was great because to course was almost empty as the weather was not that great. Conditions were OK considering time of year and to be fair the course looked like conditions would be much, much better as get into warmer weather. I rated it as a great value only because of the Golf Now price I received. I do not think the course would ever justify their normal rates. I indicated that I would recommend the course to a friend only at a Golf Now deal.
Great experience
All around great golf. Greens had just been aerated so putting was difficult.... but isn't it always!! Beautiful vistas great staff nice restaurant and deck..
Two putt maximum
It's spring golf and the grass is just starting to grow. I'm trying to shake off my rust from the winter. Your tee shots don't travel that far due to the cold and the soft fairways. Everyone aerates this time of year to get the greens growing. It's frustrating when the front nine greens are scored and the back nine is perforated.
If you have to do them, be consistent for all 18 holes.
Didn't Know greens were aerated
Love the course. Play here several times a season. Booked on Golfnow for April 14th with a friend. Arrived and found aerated/sliced greens. Huge disappointment. The one round of golf I get to play this week and the greens are aerated? Please please please let people know this BEFORE they book. It's only fair and the right thing to do. I would have booked a different course for sure. Love The Fox but should be a 2 stroke penalty!
Great layout
This course has a great layout, every hole is interesting. Premium on accuracy. Condition was decent, but what you would expect for November in New England. Very slow, only due to the group in front of us, who held us up from the first tee, and would not let us through. Course staff was second-to-none. We paid a little extra for the Golf Boards, and it was worth every penny! Awesome experience all around! A little pricey, but worth it for the a special round from time to time.
Fox Hopyard
Course was overall great for the $60 price! Greens were fast but a spots were a little beat up. Went out after two days of rain so it was soggy but other than that I would absolutely recommend this course
Try again next year
Came back this summer to play the course again. Enjoyed it last fall even though the leaves on the course made it challenging to find balls even in the fairway at times. This summer took its toll on the course, the greens were in especially poor condition and just aerated as well. The layout is decent with some challenging tee shots mixed with a little target golf. Very attractive views and clubhouse setting is great. Once the conditions come back in line with what you would expect out a higher end course it will be worth it.
A good course in tough shape
After a tough summer here in New England I certainly understand the trials and tribulations of running a golf course with hot weather and no rain all summer. I will start off by saying the layout is solid at Fox Hopyard, elevation changes, water features and thick rough make for an enjoyable and challenging round of golf. The course itself was in tough shape with a lot of issues on the greens especially. the fairways were fine but if you missed a green or a fairway you were possibly going to be hitting off of some difficult hardpan. I would recommend you give this course a little time to recover from this horrific summer. Lastly, if you are anyone but a local be ready for a tough right to get there. There really is no easy way to get to the course and the town, we went down from Boston and the ride took almost 2 hours because of all of the backroads we had to navigate.
Disappointing
A great course that is in horrible shape. No excuse for this. I can understand areated greens, but not patches of green missing as well as fairway.
Great , tough layout that needs somes serious tender loving care. Maybe it's end of season, but don't lure people all the way up to this middle-of-nowhere destination with discounted prices when course conditions aren't what one one expect.
Agree! Very bad shape. Should try Crumpin Fox
as they listed on the web site as same owner? Everything very much ways better than Fox Hopyard.
Agreed. Great courage and a great staff. But the course is in terrible shape. It's in worse shape than many of the public courses I play. Total shame because it is a great course. I've thought about joining several times but if the course is in this shape from August on, then probably not.
A course worth visiting
The course is a mature and spectacular layout and the first 9 holes are very challenging when playing off the Black or Blue tees. The back 9 are a little easier but there are some great holes with significant carry required or you will lose your ball. I played on Monday and walked the course which was deserted allowing for a 3 hour round ! Fabulous. I then played a second time on Wednesday with my family and unfortunately we were stuck behind a four ball that were horrifically slow ( 5 hour round! shoot me guys you are not at the US Open). Sadly there was no marshall to get them moving which is a shame as this was necessary hence my average mark for speed of play. The only small criticism is the condition of a couple of greens. Most are in good shape but some of them are clearly stressed.
Do not be put off by the putting green which appears to have a fungus of some type.
The course is great fun requiring accurate and long drives and good club selection for the approach shot. Lack of concentration will be punished quickly.
Staff is very friendly with a special mention for Mark and the pro Tom who gave my daughter a lesson which she thoroughly enjoyed.
If you are in this part of CT, I can only recommend playing this course as satisfaction is guaranteed especially when you play a good round.
An incredibly memeorable round
The course has one of the most spectacular layouts in New England, it has some of the best Risk/Reward holes you can find anywhere. I really only have 1 criticism and that would be the condition and consistency of the greens. They are for the most part in good shape but there are some greens that are clearly stressed. The putting green looked to have a fungus of some type in it . For a course of this caliber and what the Greens fees are (Mind you, They are worth it) the greens should be more consistent and roll truer. Wintonbury Hills does a great job with this although Wintonbury doesn't have as spectacular of a layout, the greens are devilish. Perhaps more sanding of these greens could give them that consistency, speed as well as drainage to prevent fungus.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
I was going to play there with my brother end of May. Is it better than Oxford Greens ? Layout the same as Oxford Greens?
