Guavaberry Golf & Country Club
Guavaberry Golf & Country Club is blended into the landscape bordering a tropical forest and nature preserve on the sunny southeast coast of the Dominican Republic. The Gary Player design team took advantage of the tropical flora, blue skies and consistent Caribbean breezes.
The golf course challenges players with its impressive waste bunkers, deep sand traps and indigenous coral rock formations that rise up from lush fairways. The 13th hole includes a waterfall cascading into a quarry pond, and the 18th has a massive coralline garden on the right flank, with the fairway tilting precariously in that direction as well.

this is a great Gary Player designed course, cut in the middle of a forest, jungle type. Every hole requires a good shot to stay in the fairways, ball position is key for your next shot, greens are sloped and true. A bit slow but still recovering from past aeration. From the tips with wind this course is tough measuring over 7300 yds at sea level. 18 is one of the toughest holes I've played at over 465 yds with a second shot demanding over 200 yds usually over a lava rock opening with hardly any place to go but short or on the green. The drive is almost always in the wind so anything over 250yds is a great drive at sea level with humidity and wind.
There's a par 3 with an island green at 157 yds with nothing but green to hit with usually a 10+ mph wind in your face, then another par 3 with two semi island greens with waterfall. Gorgeous course, very fast, I never see anyone playing here during the week. Great rate on golfnow, friendly staff, huge clubhouse, with pool, tennis if your kids or wife comes along. About 30 minutes from Santo Domingo if no traffic , well worth the drive and play.
this course is a gem , great layout, good condition, no one on the course so its really fast to play. Good greens , fairways, poor bunkers and challenging from the tips especially with wind. Caddies are nice and pofesional.
Closest to Santo Domingo and well worth the ride. Good value for this type of course. Club house is very lean on anything but balls. Nice restaurant but covid makes it limited in service. Beautiful building.
Great for a weekend round
This course plays longer than the golf courses I have played before. I found myself using my long irons and fairways a lot more while playing this course.
It is overall a good course and will reward long-hitting players. It was very interesting to see a par 3 with two greens though I was told by the caddie they no longer use the left green.
A par 3 with two greens a rare highlight
To be honest, the only thing I recall about playing this Gary Player design was how blistering hot it was during my August round in the mid-2000s and how cool the 13th hole was. Player designed two greens to be rotated daily for play at the par-3 13th hole. Both are separated by a stream that cascades 2,000 gallons of water minute off the rock wall into a lake in the bottom of the quarry. It's a nice touch on an otherwise slightly better than average jungle layout.
