Great Layout

This is a great resort style course. Not many surprises out there. My caddy (Sergio) was very knowedgable and attentive. It's worth a play if you are in the area.

Fantastic course

Course was in immaculate condition All holes were open to play but they have a lot of construction going on building a new hotel so the cart paths had several detours. Caddies are required for each group. They provide a lot of information for the first time player. My caddie was wonderful I played the Jack Nicholas course that I purchased on golf now for $45. The pro shop rate was $150. I will be playing the Greg Norman course tomorrow. Again for $45. Pro shop rate $175. We played at 12 o'clock and played through one twosome and finished our round in less than two hours as a single.

The Course

I love having a Caddy. This is a bonus at this course. The course plays well but there are a few negatives:

1) The proshop is at the other end of the course hole number one. 2) If you are just visiting to play the course, you cannot get through the front gate without leaving either your driver's license or passport with the guard. No way would I do that. My taxi driver was then directed to a gate that required getting back on the highway for an exit to access. I was dropped as far away from the proshop as possible. 3) the course has not given new hole #'s to GolfBuddy. My GPS was off.

Good resort course

A good resort course with a few quirks. First off it's a long cart ride (5-10 minutes) from the clubhouse to the driving range and first hole and then an equally long ride back in. Some of the ride is a bumpy dirt and rock path and the rest over existing holes that others are playing. There are also a few long rides between holes. Very good grass range, putting green and short game area. The course has undergone many changes due to the resort's expansion. Currently there are six par 3's on this par 70 layout. There are many good holes on the course and the greens are multi tiered which can cause some very interesting putts if you hit it in the wrong spot. Fore caddies are mandatory but they do a great job to keep the pace moving ($57 USD per foursome). Both rounds I played there were 4 hours. Course was mostly in very good shape with the exception of some worn areas due to cart traffic. Lots of roll on the fairways. Greens were a good speed. Great restaurant next to the pro shop serving breakfast lunch and dinner. There is also a food truck at the driving range.

A course forever in transition

It's hard to give this course an honest review for so many reasons. I only got to play nine holes as the aftermath of Hurricane Amanda dumped buckets of rain on my threesome, forcing us to retreat back to our plush rooms at the Grand Luxxe. Plus, the greens were in rough shape after aeration. Finally and foremost, the course is in the midst of an overhaul by the design team of Jack Nicklaus. The short second hole has been eliminated and will be replaced by a new par-3 at no. 18. Several other holes were adding tee boxes and switching pars. Over the years, the design has been a constant victim of the resort's massive expansion. It's been chopped up and rerouted, losing ocean holes and operating sometimes with nine, 13, 15 and 18 holes. The holes we did play were enjoyable and in good condition (besides the greens). My favorite was the first hole, a strong par-4 barricaded by bunkers in the middle of the fairway and a pond up the right side. The practice area near the Nicklaus Academy is a sprawling first-class facility with a short game area and range with target greens tucked behind bunkers. Let's just hope it survives the next resort expansion.
