Vista Vallarta Golf Club - The Nicklaus Course
About
The Nicklaus Course at Vista Vallarta Golf Club is one of two championship courses at the club, the other was designed by Tom Weiskopf. The Nicklaus Course is perched atop the property's highest elevation, offering spectacular views of Puerto Vallarta and the Bay of Banderas. The course tumbles across grassy hillsides covered with dense forests of palms and giant ficus trees. True to Nicklaus' style, the wildly undulating greens are balanced by generous driving areas. He also chose to route the holes along the natural contours of the land, giving each hole a unique character. One of the most talked-about holes on the golf course is the par-5 third, which is ranked as the toughest. This 550-yard monster demands three strong shots in order to make it onto the elevated green in regulation, but the tricky part is that the elevation rises a bit more with each shot.

Sweet course
I came here with my buds for a bachelor party and I gotta say, this was the coolest course I've played to date. I highly recommend playing this if you visit Puerto Vallarta. It's worth it!
Nice fair layout.
Every aspect was good except some of the bunkers needed some work and more sand.
Great Course
We stayed at a resort and the concierge rate we received was about $40 more expensive. So happy we decided to check golf now. The course views were amazing and the Nicklaus course was extremely challenging. Expect to loose a lot of balls. The cart attendant made delicious bloody mary's.
Weiskopf course instead
Had just punched Nicklaus course so had the Weiskopf. Course to ourselves. Had a great time and can’t say enough about the staff. Would love to play during the peak season when they can cut the greens shorter. Still playable and rolled reasonably well. Fairways in good shape. Would have to play a few times to figure out breaks on the greens. Almost got my second ace on 180 yard par three.
Great to play for lots of reasons
The best parts of this course are the surroundings and layout. Beatiful hillsides and scenery and amazing wildlife make you feel like you are at Jurrasic Park. The conditions were pretty good. I've play more manicured courses for sure, but the greens rolled real smooth. The bunkers a painful here, but such is golf. A bit pricey, so I would only play again if someone else really wanted to or there were better prices. The staff is great and the breakfast to go in the morning was ideal.
13 hcp
I took the back way to this course and it was through a very rural part of the city. Chickens in the street and everything! You are in a very remote area and all of a sudden it’s a Nicklaus course. Course condition was awesome. Hard to find a bad lie. It’s an easy course and almost all puts are straight. I played in the afternoon because it was 79 dollars instead of 215. Had the course to myself. They didn’t give me water or have a cart girl until the 10th. I ordered tacos Al pastor and they drove them out to me. They were awesome! Then I looked up from my taco meal and a stray dog was there. He was nice but a little intimidating. He stopped following me after the tacos were gone. All in all it was a great experience.
Jungle gold
Ended up playing the Weiskopd course as Nickilaus was full and a lil slow. Let us tee-off of #10. Plain sailing with no one in front. Such nice staff.
Great Day
Nice people / Great track / Good food.
What more do you need?
Nicklaus is the best!
Great layout, if you. Ant hit out of sand you may want to try another course. All greens protected by traps !
Accurate
Stay out of the bunkers. That’s about it. Greens are fast and the best I’ve seen in the area. Fairways and tee box in great shape as well. The bunkers added 8 strokes due to the level of difficulty they add. This is a championship course don’t take it for granted. Overall loved it. Caddy’s only 30$ definitely take advantage for yardage and bunker whereabouts.
Awesome Day!
I had a 3:00 tee time and had the course pretty much to myself. It was a challenging course for me with the amount of sand traps and the undulating greens. The fairway and greens were in good shape even though it was dry. Expensive to rent clubs but other than that I was happy with my experience.
EXTRAORDINARY GREENS !!
Vista Vallarta may not have the sweeping ocean views of the some of the other PV area courses like Vidanta and Litibu, but the greens are unquestionably the best in the region ! Firm, smooth, virtually perfect rolls . .
The fairways are in decent shape; I haven't played in course in the PV area that has excellent fairways . . the bunkers, due to the Covid no rakes in or near the bunker policy, are often times not smooth or raked. .
The course itself is a mix of relatively easy holes with incredibly demanding ones . . it's a very stimulating, fun, enjoyable track . .
Carts are required, unless you are up for massive long walks to get to the 1st tee, and between many holes . . the views, albeit not on the water, are amazing . .
This is my favorite course in all of the extended Puerto Vallarta golf world :)
Awesome
Played at 2:10 , had the whole course to ourselves.
Awesome layout never a boring hole.. definitely going back later this week…played the blue tees which was a good challenge..
