The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Wild Burro/Saguaro
About
Nestled in the desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range, the 27 holes at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain feature dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. The three nines were all designed by Jack Nicklaus and are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Wild Burro/Saguaro golf course combines Nicklaus' favorite nine, Wild Burro, with the front nine of the Accenture Match Play Championship. The golf course features intricately contoured greens and carefully placed fairway bunkers. The course plays through canyons and desert washes covered in centuries-old Saguaro cacti. The third, fourth and fifth holes on the Wild Burro nine are notably challenging with the third featuring an "island green" standing amidst sand and cacti.

#3 on Saguaro Photo submitted by timstaley on 10/25/2012
Seemed to be short staffed, no starter or rangers, some of the fairways were real bumpy and clumpy so not a good lie for your golf ball.. Typical Nicklaus course with hazards on blind tee shots..
Outstanding Golf i
This course is an outstanding shape. Fairways are perfect along with the greens. Never had to wait to tee off . We finished in about 4 hours!
Just bring some extra balls because this is a difficult course and you must use the course gps. The gps will tell you accurately how far you are to the pin and most importantly, how far is to lay up.
Will play here again and highly recommend!
People were awesome
This was a great day. They sent me and my wife out alone to play this beautiful coarse. Nobody behind us and nobody ahead of us. Couldn’t have been better.
Some good, Some bad
Day started bad when we arrived early to have lunch before our round. Clunhouse informed us the restaurant is closed on Mondays. No mention on their website which touts the restaurant. Suggested we go up to the lodge. We did that and found the parking was a quarter mile away. After making our way to it, found 2 of the 3 dining areas we not yet open. The only one serving was the pool grill at the far end of the resort. We were now out of time and decided to just get a sandwich from the beverage cart. So did everyone else and they were out. Not what you expect from a supposed high class facility. The course itself is beautiful and was in great shape except for the greens. They were very inconsistent both for putting and chipping. Sometimes they rolled quickly and sometimes it was like putting on glue. I can handle one or the other if they are all the same but now when it varies from green to green. If the greens keeper can correct that, the course itself would be an absolute 5 star.
A few negatives
Some bunkers had next to no sand in them. Unfortunately I was in a few of them and the sand was very inconsistent.
The pin positions on the cart distant systems were not accurate.
There were a number of lay up, forced carries. The club attendants should have mentioned that to us as a courtesy.
Nice course
A group behind us had their own music and we could hear it 200 yards away
They need to have a course Marshall out there
The noise really made a fun time not so fun
Better Courses for the Price
Best thing I can say is that the pro shop and bag staff were very friendly. Beverage cart staff were few and far between. The course was not in very good shape for the $150 greens fees and pin positions were unplayable.
Beautiful location but course needs a lot of care.
Difficult course.
I played wild burro and Tortolita. Wild Burro is extremely difficult, and hard to follow if you have never been there. Tortolita is easier and more reasonable.
The staff were reasonable but didn’t offer to say if anyone was in my group, no starter, no directions.
The carts stop in the middle of the fairway of you mistakenly go into a cart path only fairway which is poorly marked. You have to back out which takes a long time.
The greens were well cared for but the bunkers were rock hard. It appeared to not have been dragged for a long time.
OK course but not worth the money to someone like me who is a 14 HC.
Nice course but hard
Great shape but the greens can be a nightmare with all the undulating slopes!
Poor Service & Conditions
Being connected to the Ritz-Carlton sets high expectations. The pro shop and restaurant are wonderful. We saw the woman driving the beverage cart four times and not once did she say hello, hi or how are you doing? She looked at us and waited for us to place our order. The roughs around the greens weren't long enough to hold errant shots, so the higher handiacappers we played with would miss the green by a few feet and the ball would run into the desert. As a result, the round took 5+ hours. The dormant bermuda grass around many of the bunkers had died, so there was barren dirt where grass should be. The bunkers did not have nice sand in them, only the natural dirt and rocks. The GPS on our cart turned on and off throughout the round and we called the pro shop to ask for help... and they said they'd send a ranger to us... but we never saw him/her. With poor beverage cart service, no sand in the traps, lots of barren soil, almost no rough, cart difficulties, and a 5+ hour round... the round proved extremely disappointing. I will go back and give them another chance, but this is not a $200 per round course.
Great Course, Staff was fantastic. First time playing here and will be back in the near future to play again.
Tough course
Only complaint was the sand traps 1" of sand and compacted base. Tough to play around tricky greens. Over all it was great.
Burro/Saguaro
Everything was excellent. We started out behind a slow foursome but they let us through after a few holes and it was clear sailing after that. Played in 3 hrs 40 min.
