Always a Treat
To have the opportunity to play this course is always a treat. Every hole is different with its own particular challenges. From water hazards, to abysses, to sand traps, there will always be something to get your attention. Highly recommend giving this course a try.
Fun to play
Good conditions. Greens somewhat slow.
A challenging course!
Disappointing return visit
I’ve played Quarry Pines many times over the years, so this isn’t a one-off impression. There are a couple of positives worth noting, but overall the course has taken a step backward.
Pace of play has improved significantly—we were able to finish in 4 hours and 15 minutes, which is a big plus and very appreciated.
However, several key aspects have declined. We were required to sign a release for the new carts, yet ended up being given one of the old, worn-out carts. To make matters worse, the GPS systems have been removed, which is a noticeable downgrade and takes away from the overall experience.
The bunkers are in very poor condition and essentially unplayable right now. The greens were another disappointment—slow, bumpy, and lacking the quality you’d expect.
Course aesthetics have also taken a hit. While I understand the reasoning behind tree removal, it’s hard to see it as a positive when it results in noticeably less shade, especially in the Arizona heat.
On the positive side, the fairways and tee boxes are in good shape and remain one of the stronger aspects of the course.
That said, with the number of solid golf options in the area, Quarry Pines has unfortunately dropped to the bottom of my list for now.
Once Upon a Time
Once upon a time, this was a pretty decent course. I really used to like this course. The front 9 is pretty easy, the back nine is challenging. I played on Sat and it took 32 min to get through the first hole. There were a couple of young ladies that had clearly not held a golf club before and knew nothing of etiquette. That aside, the front 9 greens especially are very poor. They are like shag carpet and overrun with some sort of weed. It is more like mowing a field down than a proper green. The fairways are like concrete. Seems like the greens and fairways aren't getting enough water. There were a few unfair pin placements as well. On #10, which is a challenging green with a false front, the pin was placed on the very front slope and it was not possible to stop the ball if you missed the hole.
There is also a pine tree on the tee box on #7 that has become so overgrown that is to the point of unfair when playing the back tees.
Most of all, the frustrating part of this course is that they charge like they are a premiere golf course, when they are barely a step above a muni course. This course hasn't had a driving range in around 5 years also, so no chance of getting a proper warm up in, yet they feel it is ok to charge $106 before noon, for this course.
This course is not a $50 course.
I'm saddened by the green conditions that I experienced this week. They are so bad.
Fantastic back 9!
Friendly staff greeted us as soon as we arrived. Golf carts need some updating. Very old and dirty with holes in the seats. Front nine is average, but the back nine is fantastic and worth our drive from Gilbert and worth the very reasonable green fees. The views and elevation changes as the course navigates through the old rock quarry makes for a fun and challenging finishing 9 holes. The course overall was in very good shape. Greens and fairways were very well kept and maintained. We have already recommended this course to friends and we will be back.
Dang! What a place that is!
You're darn dang right they treat you good. Gotta pay the price to get the nice. But if you think this is spendy, think twice. They gotta water the place, don't they? And that, they do. And for the price, what you get is absolutely pristine golfing conditions. They're not playing the Master's here, but you feel like a master when you're there. Good job, dudes. I do abide. Five big ones from the Hess.
Really fun course
I've played Quarry Pines several times. The course is always in really good shape and it is a fun track (especially the back 9). The staff is awesome, and wait times aren't bad (10 an 12 are always backed up). My only issue is no driving range; that's a big negative (but I will usually go to Silverbell range before and then drive over).
What A Track!
One of the best public, or private for that matter, courses I have ever played. The back nine layout in and around the “Quarry” was a genius design!
Beautiful course in great condition
Although the back 9 is a bit challenging, still enjoyable and very pretty.
2 Differnt 9’s
The front is more of a traditional links layout but the back is built on the quarry and is up and down and more of a strategic target course both were Gina and interesting just different style of 9’s. The range is undergoing a renovation so it was closed which was a bummer for hitting the course ready to play.
I play this course frequently over the last three years. The course has improved significantly, fairways are great, greens are in excellent shape. The front nine is for all skill levels of players. The back nine is very challenging down through an old Quarry with exceptional views. You will find accuracy is a must on the back. This course will leave you wanting to return.
Wonderful layout. Fairways were in great shape .
Excellent course. One has to be aware of topography of the fairways to avoid rolling into rough.
Greens were challenging with placement of pins
We played 18 holes in about 4 hours and 15 minutes
Really important that golfers not spend a lot of time looking for lost balls because in the desert is gone. New sand in traps was great.
A tale of two nines
Course was interesting. Front nine easy and fair. Back nine total target golf and very narrow. Be sure to have your game warmed up as there is no driving range. The course was in good shape.
