The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Tortolita/Wild Burro

About
The desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range provide the stunning backdrop for the three nines designed by Jack Nicklaus at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain. They are played in three different 18-hole combinations, one of them being Tortolita/Wild Burro. The Tortolita nine serves as the back nine for the PGA Tour's Accenture Match Play Championship, but Nicklaus considers Wild Burro to be the best of the three. Playing through canyons and desert washes, the golf course features dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. Tortolita's third hole has the highest elevation at the club while the ninth hole on Wild Burro is the longest finishing hole of any of the nines. The intricately contoured greens and strategic fairway bunkering provide a challenge for even experienced golfers.

Not good
Got to play for a Hot Deal for $65, regular would have been $110. I would have been disappointed if I paid $40. The Wild Burro 9 holes were in good shape and by itself may have gotten 4 stars, but playing the Tortolita 9 holes made this a bad day.
The tees were shaggy, fairways were not cut down, bunkers were thin, and greens had gashes and dirt spots. It's possible this was just after overseed, but staff said they hadn't started yet when I told them after the round and that is scary.
The Tucson city courses are all in better shape right now. I don't know if I'll ever place this track again and would suggest anyone avoid this place for at least a month or so.
Nice Tract good conditions
Not difficult. Wide open fairways, easy to hit. Par 3’s . Not much nuance. Bunkers not very strategic. Good hitting surfaces. Greens rolled true, good condition, no undulations. Good course for intermediate golfer. Overall not too interesting.
Beautiful beast
This course is one of the most scenic desert courses I have ever played, with mountain views and tons of saguaros and other cacti and desert plants. It is also one of the hardest since many holes go uphill and play way longer than their yardage. The layout is typical Nicklaus with visual intimidation and strategically placed bunkers and large, undulating, and well-guarded greens. Conditions weren't the best since it is overseeing time. The greens were bumpy and slow as some of the grass has gone dormant, and one nine was cart path only due to the extra watering. The practice facility was nice and the staff was very attentive, as you would expect from a resort course. This is definitely a challenging course that requires you to bring your A game.
Kinda Rough Shape
Several Greens were very patchy and the traps were more like gravel pits.
Thus course is normally meticulously maintained, so this was a tad disappointing.
Staff was still as superb as ever!
Course has some bumps
Really enjoyed my round there today. Staff was super friendly. Front nine was cart path only but it really wasn't too bad. Greens are in iffy shape due to overseeding, but they honestly ran pretty true despite that. Fairways and rough are in great shape. Round ran just over 4 hours despite the group in front of us showing up late. Was skeptical due to other reviews, but I was glad I played!
9 holes were great. 9 holes were over-seeded, cart path only, greens almost unplayable.
Tees and Fairways = good, Greens = very poor
It is overseed season, but the tee boxes and fairways were good. The greens were in very bad shape, very disappointing.
Slow af
Foursome in front of us thought they were good and were thoroughly involved in their shots. Took me twice as long to play 18 as normal. Not as fun as usual.
Great course right now for the money
Like most if not all Tucson courses right now, Dove is having trouble handling the excess rain. But the greens are good, rolling true, fairways playable (with some preferred lie locations) and you cannot beat the challenging layout. Use judgement in the bunkers ... some are still retaining water. I tee'd off at noon as a single and played a wonderful round in light rain, solo the whole way, for dirt cheap, in 3 hours.
I was disappointed with the greens, poor conditions.
Outstanding day
The course has received quite a bit of rain in the past few weeks and is in excellent condition. The greens were in terrific shape, a bit more forgiving than they will be a month from now. They held approach shots and putts rolled when struck firmly. Has to be my favorite course in the Old Pueblo.
Good Course for the money
Made a day trip down from Phoenix, Arrived an hour before our tee time, Went to check in at the pro shop, stood inside for over five minutes and not a soul in sight. Went outside and found a cart kid to check in. Told the guy we would grab some lunch then be back out. We were told the only food options was at the grill at the turn, Went down there and she said she was getting ready to close and the only options were chips or peanuts. Disappointed. We were able to get out early and even having to wait on groups in front of us played in 2:20.
