Golf course
The greens were dirt and not green in some places due to repairs but was still a great course would definitely recommend to other golfers and will definitely play again. The only complaint was the stacking of players 3 foursomes with a group of 5 in between causing the play to be slower than normal but was still a great day
Great course / poor greens
Except for the greens, the course was in great shape. 15 of the 18 greens were in poor shape, to include the putting green. However, the layout was good, and fairways were in great shape.
Also, the bunkers were very poor quality and more rocks than sand. While i only ended up in one green side bunker, it should be noted that almost all were unplayable.
Mixed Experience
Overall, the course was okay, but it clearly needs more consistent maintenance. The out-of-bounds areas were rough—literally. The grass was about 4 feet tall, making it nearly impossible to find a ball even slightly off target. Fairways were mowed and playable, but the rough was thick, sitting around 3-4 inches, which made recovery shots a challenge.
The greens are struggling. Poa annua is starting to take over, and there are multiple bare spots that look like they've been left untouched for months. Sand traps were in even worse shape—overgrown with grass and looking like they haven’t been maintained in quite a while.
That said, the staff was friendly, and it was nice to see a beer cart running on a Saturday—always a good touch. With some TLC, this course could be a lot better, but as it stands, it feels neglected in key areas.

We were booked on the Comanche course but saw the Apache from the road and asked to switch - no problem. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. Back 9 was very challenging. Only critique would be the greens as they were recovering from a tough winter…
POA ANNUA
The title says it all. The greens are literally unplayable. Just take a two-putt once you reach the green (it’s the only way to keep from losing it.) I love both Squaw courses but I can’t ever remember the greens being this bad on the lakes.
Tee boxes and greens
Tee boxes very dry and hard, had trouble putting a tee in.
Greens are in terrible condition. Looks like course was greedy this past winter, having it open when they should not have. Needs a lot of work for what it costs.
Bad greens
The weeds have overtaken their greens. We had to play 2 putts max just because they were so bumpy. I like this course but I wouldn’t recommend playing until they get their greens back.
Greens in bad shape
Although we got stuck behind a slow foursome the pace was ok for a weekend round. Have played Squaw Valley several times in the past and this is the first time I was truly disappointed in the conditions. Tee to green was fine for this time of year but the greens were atrocious. Some other type of grass/weed had invaded making the greens so rough it was like a pinball machine with all of the bumping around. And it was every green. Will not return until they get the greens under control.
Worst Greens I’ve Ever Played
Poa Annua everywhere. No chance at putting. Weeds in fairways and throughout.
