Pecan Lakes Golf Course
About
Jay Riviere added another of his many southeast Texas course designs to his resume with Pecan Lakes Golf Club. Par 72 and tipping out at 6,922 yards, this water-infested track plays around a 20-acre lake and waterway system. Water is the primary difficulty, coming into play on 17 of 18 holes, but the golf course is mostly hacker friendly with most par 4s ranging from 300 to 400 yards. The round starts off into the wind and rolls through groves of pecans, oaks, and elms. No. 8 is the best hole -- a tough par 4 that plays between trees on the right and water along the left side. The long approach on 8 must carry a bunker, and is particularly difficult because of the small green. Like the front, Pecan Lakes Golf Club's back nine opens up playing into the wind, with no. 10 playing 400 yards beside water. No. 11 goes 560 yards with a tricky approach that must carry a greenside water hazard. No. 18 is the longest par 4 (452 yards) and doglegs left around two bunkers, with water along the right.

Golf Advisor: Top 25 Courses for Pace of Play in the U.S. (2017 #17)
Reviews
bright windy day but course was good, pace of play was good....we enjoy playing at Pecan Lakes...easy drive from Houston area...good value for the $$...we will return...
Excellent condition
The golf course is in excellent condition. A few bare areas around the greens have been re-sodded & have not grown in yet. Greens putt very true...fairways are hard & fast yet the ball sits up. Course superintendent met me on the first tee & directed me to play the back nine first due a crowded front nine. Smiling faces & great customer service @ Pecan Lakes.
Always fun
I play at Pecan about once a month and always have a great time. To start out with the gentlemen that works the pro shop is always very friendly and I always enjoy talking with him. The course is forgiving and has a great layout but at times difficult with the strong winds. But I always leave wanting to play more.
Excellent course, great golf for the $$$
Course was in excellent condition as always. It is a very cost effective place to play especially if you get one of the hot deals. the staff is always friendly.
Worth the drive
Had a great time! Course was in good shape, greens a little inconsistent. Some rolled a little slow while others were faster.
This is now my "go to course"
Man, I love playing this course, greens are in excellent shape, pace of play okay, got behind a couple of foursomes but they played quick. Staff is friendly. I will be back.
A hidden gem...
Wow, thanks to your app I found this little hidden gem, played my best round of golf ever, man did I enjoy it, staff was very friendly and accommodating, I will be back.
Love this course
The course has become my favorite course in the area. With just the right amount of hazards, it can be a challenge. There is always a wind, sometimes as much as three clubs. This makes driving difficult one way and helpful going the opposite way.
Course is in great shape. Bring plenty of golf balls, lots of water.
Upgrades
Course is in excellent condition compared to times I've played in the past. New club house upgrades and friendly staff! Would recommend to anyone wanting to play a relaxing round.
Good, but bumpy
The strange thing was the grass they use is thick, so ball didn't roll much. Greens were bumpy. Everything was well manicured. Middle of week play, so no wait time. Played alone 18 holes in just under 3 hours.
Nice course
Greens are improving other course conditions were good. Fun course in a quite setting. Worth the drive every time.
Horrendous Conditions and worse staff
Long story short...course has taken an absolute nosedive in recent years. Greens are awful. When asked about the poor condition of the greens, head pro was sarcastic and unapologetic....all while taking my $$. Had I not driven 45 minutes to play, and my buddy over an hour, we would have turned around and left. I'll never go back.
Showing some signs of neglect
This is a nice quiet course, with plenty of water hazards, but could be in better condition. The fairways and greens were very dry and are showing signs of neglect. They've done some work on the cart paths which are in excellent shape, but many of the greens were suffering. The kid in the pro shop was as helpful as any fast food person, so that didn't make a good first impression. We likely won't be back any time soon.
Decent course, decent value
Played on a Sunday morning. Very windy. Very few other players until after noon. Our twosome finished in under three hours. Course had receceived torrential rains a few days earlier and the spring growth had not yet started. Fairways were playable. Rough was hard to distinguish from fairways in many places. Water on almost every hole. Greens were fast and true even though they had little grass.
Thank you for your comments and warnings I was about to play out there this Saturday but I am going to play elsewhere that is why sometimes technology really works once again thank you
