Vaaler Creek Golf Club
About
Conveniently located near downtown San Antonio not too far from Austin, Vaaler Creek Golf Club has a memorable layout of gently rolling hills dotted with creeks, ponds and lakes. The course begins with a challenging front nine and then eases up a bit on the back nine, but overall it is a formidable test. The greens are tricky and demanding, especially on the front nine where there are some severe slopes and undulations. The back nine greens are a bit flatter but they still require careful attention. The rolling, contoured fairways are lined with trees and there are deep bunkers strategically guarding the greens, but luckily there are only seventeen of them. Water hazards come into play throughout and there are also several doglegs and blind shots if there wasn’t enough to keep you on your toes.

Great course in Texas hill country
Although a ways out of town, this course is worth the trip. Especially in an area with limited golf courses. Beautiful scenery and a few challenging holes.
11/5/2020 Round
Overall, the course is getting better as the grass is growing in but there were a number of places where over- watering did have some affect on overall opinion about round. (maybe the cooler weather didn't dry out the wet areas) Also, may I suggest that signs be used to advise on no-cart holes if this is a permanent rule. I forgot and the other golfers hadn't play since that rule was in place. Also, no advise from starter.
One thought. I seems that the pitch for white tee boxes is getting quite severe. Very few tee boxes offer a level stance.
Friday at Vaaler Creek
Great conditions front came thru on back 9 and got cold and windy. Have played the course two previous times. This was in the best condition. Will play it again soon!
Great course-wrong day!
The course and staff were amazing. Unfortunately, we picked the coldest, windiest day of the year to play. It was an adventure, but very memorable.
Fuzzy fairways and greens
Would be better if fairway and greens had been mowed shorted
Great day for golf on a great course
I am a senior learning the game. I invited a very low handicap club champion (on his course) friend to Vaaler and we joined a pair of much younger than us gentlemen. The greens were recently reseeded so they were slower than is typical for this course. For a player of my ability, there are plenty of intimidating Tee and green approach shots. The course was overall in good shape and I totally enjoyed the round. The person at the desk in the clubhouse was wearing a mask and he was wiping surfaces when I was there. My cart was very clean. There was a fund raising effort for veterans on a par 3. I am a 26 year Army veteran. I did not know the organization, but we all chipped in. Maybe a word at check in to expect that fundraising effort and a flyer on the organization would be good.
Excellent course, slow greens.
1st time playing this course and it was a great experience. Wish we were advised the greens had been over seeded and hadn’t been mowed in a while. The greens were very fluffy and therefore very slow. Everything else about this course was excellent. The starter was friendly, the Marshall was very nice and even pointed out my ball on one hole. The club house guys were very accommodating before and after the round. Our gps went down after the front 9 but another player let us know how to reboot it. Will definitely be going back, after the greens are mowed.
Great course
You guys are doing.everything right. Don’t change a thing. Thank you for the military rate, we all appreciate it. We just wish you were closer to San Antonio. Hello to Gaston from a Sonterra member (Dr. Don Mills)
First time playing course, a little challenging with the layout. The course is lovely although I think it would be a challenge walking as several holes are quite a distance from the following holes. The distance between the forward tees and the rest of the tees is quite nice though not as challenging. I look forward to playing this course again.
Great Track
Thoroughly enjoy playing Vaaler Creek. Challenging layout with many doglegs and elevated greens. Tests your shoemaking ability. 17 & 18 are two great for finishing holes. Greens have been aerated recently so not in the best shape.
Great Day
Course is in great condition! I saw reviews saying they Aerated the greens a few weeks ago, so I was a little worried. The greens were in fantastic condition. One of the best I have played in the past few months!
Interesting hill country course on a beautiful piece of property. Pin placements might have been extreme had the greens been faster. Fun to play, with a few quirky holes. I'll be back.
Wow, we are so happy you enjoyed your round, u314160952701! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
