About
Conveniently located near downtown San Antonio not too far from Austin, Vaaler Creek Golf Club has a memorable layout of gently rolling hills dotted with creeks, ponds and lakes. The course begins with a challenging front nine and then eases up a bit on the back nine, but overall it is a formidable test. The greens are tricky and demanding, especially on the front nine where there are some severe slopes and undulations. The back nine greens are a bit flatter but they still require careful attention. The rolling, contoured fairways are lined with trees and there are deep bunkers strategically guarding the greens, but luckily there are only seventeen of them. Water hazards come into play throughout and there are also several doglegs and blind shots if there wasn’t enough to keep you on your toes.

Always A Great Round
A round at Vaaler Creek is always a good day. Greens had been punched recently so they were 50% healed, otherwise the course was perfect. Fairways lush, and rough was sticky. I wish I lived closer to this course so I could play it more.
My favorite course!
Only negative about playing Valeer Creek is sometimes you get an extremely slow group in front of you like I had today!!! Other than that I love this course!

course was ih outstanding shape save for one major detail, no notice when I booked that the greens had been aerated and top dressed, really ruined an otherwise terrific day.
100+ degrees, but the course was in great shape
This course is difficult. One needs to play it several times to understand the layout to position your ball off of the tee, and the slopes on the greens. Depending on the pin placement, it is important where you land your ball. Many greens are sloped or tiered, so this has a great impact on your ability to score.
That said, the course is in great shape, considering the hot dry summer we have had. The fairways are plush and green. And, the greens are well maintained and roll true.
Game of Strategy
I have only played this course a couple times but, there is a good reason why. The course requires a lot of strategy to be able to score. Also, the price point is a little high to be able to play all the time. I enjoy playing this course a lot and it is very pretty. It is just a little far for me to play more than once a year. I really like this course though. It is a good time! Would recommend this course to anyone that hasn't played it.
Keeps getting better
The course is in excellent condition, and they continue to improve certain aesthetic features such as the lakes and hazards. The staff really works to make for a good experience. Because the course continues to get “discovered’ the pace of play is now good (4:15) but not as fast as it was previously. Enjoyable layout requiring all the shots in your bag.
Overpriced and unfriendly staff
The course was expensive for the play and lack of amenities. Greens and fairways could use some work.
