Length 7174 yards
Slope 139
Rating 74.2

Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

Thoroughly impressed

Had not played here before and was not expecting all that this course had to offer for the price. I've been playing Star Ranch and Avery Ranch and paying the full $79 green fee and thought I was getting more for that price, i could not have been more wrong. Brand new carts at ShadowGlen, course looks awesome and greens were rolling very well. The young and vibrant staff is refreshing change from many of the stuffy uptight pros at these so called higher quality courses. Just love the vibe here it's casual and laid back but for the serious golfer. And the layout is awesome, can be an ultra challenging test for better player from the tips but a fun round for a mid handicapped senior. Will be coming back

Challenging Course, need to try it again in the spring

Summary, nice course in winter conditions,, needs a bit of TLC, great consistent greens, smallish clubhouse, I though it was over priced with a bucket of balls at $61.

Walked

Pro shop staff were more interested in their phones than customers. General manager was unfriendly and cold. Snack bar staff was nice and good service.

Golf course layout was good. Conditions were mediocre at best. Bunkers were terrible. Greens hold nicely but cups were worn out (must have been there for days). Lots of weeds around the greens and collars. Fairways had large muddy areas even though it had not rained.

Loved what they've done with the place

Hadn't been here since summer; wow this place has improved. New carts, clubhouse and pro shop are clean and look as good as they ever have, and new management and staff really creates a great experience here. The changes also extend to the course, various trees have been removed and trimmed and another tee box added to make course more playable. All the members here are awesome as well, will be making this my home course from now on,

Excellence

Love this course, such a great layout compared to other public courses in the area and challenging too which I love to see. Greens are rolling perfectly as well, course conditions were surprisingly good for this time of the year. Pace of play can get slow on weekends but what do you expect at a public course on weekends

Best Value in Town: Confirmed

Heard this place was a great value and it does not disappoint. Such a nice and refreshing atmosphere with the young staff. Course layout is excellent great mix of easy/difficult holes and the greens were rolling phenomenally, loved that there are five tee boxes as well; makes things fun when you have golfers of all different skill levels in your group. I will definitely be back here, probably to purchase a membership.

Consistently delivers

Pace of play was terrible, but what can you reasonably expect the day after Christmas? Never disappointed with the layout, set up or conditions at Shadowglen. One of my favorite Austin area tracks, and the best value in town.

No thanks

Left my TaylorMade putter cover in the cart last time and so did my brother in law. They had his but conveniently did not have my expensive one. They were left in the same place so I can only assume one of their cart boys took mine. This round we were stuck behind the slowest foursome I have ever played behind. Brought it to the attention of the little course manager and he was sarcastic and could have cared less. I watched one of the cart boys treat the carts horribly and run over stuff at the cleaning station. Ive played courses that were better taken care of for less money so I will pass on Shadow Glen from now on.

Very impressed

First time at course, had heard good things from a friend. Very impressed, bar girl was friendly and pro shop was well stocked. Cart was clean and course was in great shape, definitely a challenging layout but with multiple tee boxes very playable for average joe

Definitely Renewing Membership for 2020

Hadn’t been out there in a few months and hardly recognized the place. Pro shop looks the best it ever has and clubhouse is as clean and well decorated as it’s ever been—For awhile you could really sense this place was low on cash as you were in the clubhouse but no more. It’s also nice to not have to check in at the bar anymore. Course looks incredible for this time of year, and the new tee boxes really make this course more fun for a lot more people. Heard they’re getting new carts in soon as well, I look forward to that.

Best value in town

Title says it all. Course is challenging and in great shape, and they’ve recently put in a new tee box to make the course more suitable for seniors as well as taken down some trees that were a nuisance before.

Additionally they have a wide range of membership options that are a great deal. The staff is friendly and they’re working hard to improve the place.

Only going to get better!

This place just keeps getting better

I have played here for the past few years and have always appreciated the course, and the friendly staff. This course is the best value in the Austin area without a doubt, and now that they have a new general manager and employees everything is improving: course conditions, a greatly expanded selection of merchandise in pro shop, clubhouse, practice area. They are getting new carts in before end of the year which will improve the experience, they have taken down trees to make the course more playable, and added new tee boxes

Fun course but poorly run

While the course layout was really fun and interesting, this course is run very poorly. We waited for an hour (40 mins past our team time) to get a cart. The cart boys and starter did not do anything except tell us carts should be coming any minute now. All they did was tell us to come by after the round and they'd help us out (implying a discount), but of course, the pro shop was closed when we were done at 5:05, so we did not receive a discount. I've played a lot of golf all over the country and never witnessed anything like this. Next, the cart we waited an hour to get ended up having a flat tire after 8 holes so we had to switch at the turn. They claim that slow play is not tolerated, but when we caught up to people (the front went quick because no one had teed off for 45 mins due to lack of carts), it was very slow. There was a complete pile-up of groups and no one does anything about it. Overall, with the ridiculous service, I would not play here again, which is a shame because the course layout was fun.

I am extremely sorry for your experience at ShadowGlen Golf Club. Please contact me at kirk@shadowglengolf.com and I will make it right. We are replacing our current fleet of carts to solve our cart issues. We hope you give us another shot.
